I wanted to treat my mother to a belated Birthday meal since I didn't actually get her anything other than a card. I know, I'm a terrible human being, even though she didn't want anything in the first place. I was gonna take her to nice coffee shop when she mentioned she fancied something more sarvoury like Macdonalds, to which Five Guys instantly popped into my head.
Stepping inside, we noticed how the queuing area was squished into one corner, not that it mattered much because there wasn't much of a queue. We had just enough time to decide what we fancied from the short menu. The service was amazingly quick as I remember getting our food within a couple of minutes of ordering. I had a bacon cheese burger with mushrooms while Mum settled for a chese burger with onions, as well as a regular fries to share plus a couple of refillable sodas.
If I remember right, the total came to exactly £27.17... I know what you guys are thinking: JFC FOR A FAST-FOOD JOINT, THAT'S FECKING EXPENSIVE... and you would be right to think that, it was quite a hefty price. You can, however, get any toppings for your burger for free and you also get free refills on soda (which we abused the hell out of).
Now, the food.
It was good. Really good honestly, much better quality than Macdonalds and I got a lot more bacon on mine than I would from a bacon double cheese burger from Burgerking. Nice, thick, meaty patties with cheese, bacon and mushrooms? What's not to love? Mum was enjoying hers as well. The fries, were incredibly gorgeous, nicely salted and steaming hot. And the amount we got JESUS, a regular portion was more than enough for two people. I took the small cup of fries out of the bag to find a large pile still in the bottom, I'm a little scared to see how much I'd get in a large portion.
Five Guys in the Manchester Arndale earns four stars from me. If it could let me do three and a half stars, it would've been just that but I'll settle for four (I'm not mean). Great food but the only thing that lets it down is the outrageous prices, which is the reason why I probably won't visit too often. read more
