I was in the area with some friends and I asked if they wanted to try this place out. It's kinda tucked away on a street I don't usually take. The place looks very retro, like my granddads house. The indoor saloon doors, machinery from the 50s and emphasis on milkshakes all kinda do it. Neat old-school wooden booths and tile floors all kinda make the experience pretty cool. The hot dog was fine. It was a fried hot dog. I put it a tier below the Nathan's Coney Island dog I had in Coney Island. Never been much of a chili of this variety. There was something nostalgic about the experience. Fries were crispy and shoestring just about. Like a cross between McDonald's and the classic diner fry. I decided to go with the original cheesesteak, with cheez whiz, grilled onions, and broccoli rabe, for which there was a small upcharge. I really liked the sandwich. The meat was delicious, and there was plenty of it. The broccoli rabe was tender, but not mushy, and the onions were perfect. The bread was very good, and held up to the sandwich very well. I normally don't even like cheez, whiz, but I ordered it because that's what's in a traditional cheesesteak. I liked it. It played very well with the rest of the sandwich. The sandwich and a soda were very reasonably priced for what I got. I would love to try the original Tony's if I'm ever in South Philly. Thank you.
