We moved into our newly constructed house in May 2018 which included a reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink. A few months later, Five Cities Water contacted us about maintaining the equipment and that started a 5 year relationship which continues to this day. Basically, a technician flushes the system, replaces any worn parts and ensures there are no leaks. The usual cost is about $200, although it was $307 in November 2023 because a major piece of equipment gets replaced every 5 years. Aaron provided the service this year and did a fine job. He was: - Flexible with the calendar - Arrived on time - Explained what he needed to do before doing it - Charged a fair price (from what I can tell) In previous years, there were no leaks after the annual visit. This time, a slow drip continued for a few hours so I called Five Cities and spoke to Chris who contacted Aaron. He drove over, quickly saw one of the O-Rings was faulty (a factory issue) and replaced it. Everything was fixed in around 5 minutes. And the next day.....Chris called to make sure we had no leaks and things were fine. We plan to keep using Five Cities Water as long as we own the house. read more

This company is fantastic ! When our old softwater system failed we contacted these guys and they were out the next day. Brandon explained some options for a new system and he really knows his stuff. We recently moved into our house and it had the Five Cities soft water system and water purifying system in the house already. We were having some issues with it so we called and Brandon came out to take a look and we figured out the system hadn't been maintained or serviced in the 21 years since the system was installed. So we ended up having to get a whole new unit installed. Brandon was very knowledgeable and professional and we are very happy with the system. After struggling for three years with hard water on the Central Coast we bought a water softener system. Being retired and with a keen interest in technology and a passion for getting the best deal I was willing to spend the time needed in researching solutions to our hard water problems. There are lots of resources on the web and YouTube discussing water filtering and softening solutions so I won't go into those. We determined that a water softener was what we needed. We live in Nipomo and this review is about the company we selected to buy the system from. I got quotes from Costco and three or four other companies. They provided several different kinds of solutions at a range of costs from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. I was disappointed by the quality of the sales presentations and quotations and follow through by those companies. I also talked with my neighbors and asked for their recommendations. Two of them have been using 5 Cities Water Systems. One was a new customer of 5 Cities and the other one had been using their services for years. Both neighbors highly recommended 5 Cities. Of all the companies I worked with 5 Cities provided the most professional and responsive service in setting up a visit to see our setup and analyze our requirements. They also responded to a number of my tiresome questions. Their field tech Brandon did an excellent job explaining the different options available. We decided to go with the Duo Soft single tank solution. 5 Cities price and warranty service was reasonable and Brandon did a great job installing the system, the pipe fitting and soldering were exemplary (see photos). And the system was delivered on time and budget. It's been over a month since we had the system and we are delighted with the improved water in our home. The dishwasher and other appliances are working better; with much less streaking on the glasses and dishes. The shower heads and enclosures are less stained and mineral build-up is clearing up. And best of all our skin and hair feel much better with the softer water and the water tastes better too. That's what we were looking for and it was good working with a local family owned company like 5 Cities. We highly recommend their services. I've had Five Cities Water Systems for more than 30 years. I have both the reverse osmosis and softner systems. I rent the RO system and bought the softner. Bob said that buying the softner is better since they almost never need service. Every year, they call me to arrange for them to come out and change RO filters and check the water hardness (or softness!) If I'm not in and they leave a message, they still call back to set up the appointment for the service. They are relentless on making sure my water is great. I highly recommend this local business. They do great work and have very low turnover. You'll probably be seeing the same tech almost every year. read more

We have been using Five Cities Water Systems for about 20 years now; a water softener and under sink RO unit. Their knowledge about water purification, their flawless record keeping about the age and condition of our units, and professionalism in installation, upkeep and repair makes them a five star business. This weekend I wanted to give them six. We had to decommission our old (20 years!) softener and it sat for a while. I tried to remove the water tank, and made a mistake causing water to continually gush onto the garage floor (I had bypass reversed). I had to shut water off to the house, and this was Saturday afternoon! How do I avoid telling my wife, who has a list of all the dumb things I do? I called Five Cities out of desperation, with little hope that anyone would answer. Long story short: Brandon was there to the rescue in less than 15 minutes. My wife never had to know. Last service call was terrible on water softener . Had dark brown water from hot water for over a week---not the couple of days as promised. I had to drain several my hot water tank several times to help get the brown water out--- only for the color to return. Much water and gas wasted. SIX calls later I finally was told that there would be no reduction in their service fee for my additional out of pocket expenses,my labor and inconvenience. This company is no fun to deal with . They make appointments that they do not keep and make it seem like your fault. They charge never ending rental fees for units that you can buy for a few hundred dollars. They offer service contracts that they do not honor and again make it the customers fault. This is a dangerous company to do business with. Be very careful with the wording on their contract - "Check for leaks". If there is a leak 5 Cities Water will tell you it's your fault for not finding it. We had several thousand dollars of damage caused by them and it became an insurance nightmare because they refused to pay the damages they caused. He recommended Water Bob and I went with his recommendation. From the time the phone was answered to the completion of the service on my unit, I was treated with the best and most knowledgeable customer service I have received in a long time. Way Way over priced and very unpleasant company to deal with....Maybe Bob knows water, but so do a lot of people. When I started asking around I realized that I was locked into a rental agreement where I would pay and pay and never own the unit. Included in the rental agreement is a yearly service filter change etc. which never happened. I can purchase an excellent unit for the price of rental on this one. They are refusing to remove the unit because they say I still owe them money. This is an unpleasant company to get involved with... go elsewhere. Five Cities Water Systems was highly recommended to us by a close friend and long-term customer. We have super-hard water, sulfur, etc. on a rural well water system. We'd had very bad luck with 2 other water systems companies, so when we scheduled an appointment with "Water Bob", it was with some trepidation. Boy, were we in for a treat! Not only did Bob spend over an hour on our Performa / Advanta water softener system, he patiently explained its workings so that we could monitor it on our own as well. All this, plus a 35-minute trip (one way) & we were only billed for a standard service call. Later, 5 Cities Water technician Brandon did a service / maintenance on our RO system, and a rental home water softener. He fine tuned each system, replacing some RO parts not normally included in the service at no extra cost, and made maintenance recommendations for us as well. Its a relief to find a company with old-fashioned values and work ethics, where the customer and the job, no matter how small, are still important. That,along with their knowledge and professionalism would have earned 5 stars from me, but it gets better. Our water softener stopped softening a few days ago, and we couldn't figure out the problem. 2 separate phone calls to "Water Bob", where he took 30 minutes of his time and patiently went through a checklist of troubleshooting items and then how to solve them, fixed the problem. When we offered to pay him for his time, he refused. Where do you find service like that anymore? I see that 5 Cities has 2 really negative reviews on Yelp. That certainly hasn't been our experience in 3 separate service calls. I also found 4 additional 'filtered reviews', all from 2011, each giving 5 stars, so read those reviews, too. Its true no one's perfect & you can't please everyone all the time. That said, in my opinion, if "Water Bob" can't help you, I'm not sure who can. 5 Cities Water is our service company from here on out, and we definitely recommend them to our friends. read more

The system had a 5 Cities sticker on it, so I called them. Aubrey answered the phone and was extremely helpful and knowledgable. She knew exactly when it had been installed and the last time serviced. I set up and appointment and was pleased to find they could send someone on the weekend. Nick was our service tech. GREAT guy. Over the last 5 years we have had other water companies try and figure out what was wrong with our water softener. We paid a lot of money to other companies to get our system fixed. Each time the other companies left telling us it was fixed but our water softener still didn't work. I then called Five Cities Water Systems. They figured out that the local company that initially installed the softener installed the plumbing backwards. No one else could figure that out except 5 Cities WS. Our water softener developed a problem. Five Cities Water Systems either installed it or serviced it, since their number was on the device. We called for service, and they quoted my wife $300 for the service call! Technician came at the end of the day, looked, said he didn't have the right tool, asked if my wife if she had it (a wet vac, as I recall), and ditched the job when she didn't. Pretty lame! He did call back to re-schedule, but I don't think we will be using this outfit. I realize that this review is based on limited experience of the company, but you only get one chance to make a first impression, and the consumer doesn't always have time or energy to give a company another chance. read more

They show up when they are supposed to, they do great work and they go above and beyond. I've used them twice on my last two home purchases and had them install a softener and an RO system in both houses. This last time my fridge water wasn't connected and they connected it before they left at no additional charge - and they were HAPPY to do it! This is how customer service should be. read more

Five Cities Water Systems came out to do annual maintenance of our water filtration system. They instructed us to check for leaks and call them if we had any. That evening, the entire area under our sink was covered in water. When I called them to come back out, they said the dishwasher hose must have "somehow" broken just when they did the service, and that it wasn't their fault, so they charged us $85 to fix the leak. When I spoke to the owner later, he told me that the company often had issues with dishwashers and garbage disposals suddenly and mysteriously leaking after their technicians had been out to do maintenance, but that it certainly couldn't be their fault. He refused to refund any money charged for the service call. I understand that mistakes happen, but if your technicians are regularly causing major problems with your customers' plumbing, then you need to take responsibility for that.
