Tired of waiting hours to see a doctor for an Annual Check up? The Good news is that the wait is potentially over... This facility is extremely clean, modern and the staff is very nice and super professional. This is the second year my husband and I have gotten our annual check ups here. It took us both exactly 60 minutes (with our blood withdrawn in-house) from the moment we arrived to the moment we walked out to the car. My favorite part is that if everything is OK they call you and tell you over the phone instead of wasting your time and making you make another appointment to simply get your blood work results. This facility is really nice too. Sounds too good to be true? OK, the only downfall may be you will have to park in metered parking in the near by garage. Other than that it should be fairly simple which is honestly how it should be. This is probably one of the best health clinics right now. The staff is nice and at least my doctor is good. Some others not so much. I've been going year for years, and the care is good, and I love the nurse. However, I think they are understaffed. Every time I call it takes minimum of 20 minutes for anyone to answer the phone, and that's the front desk. If you need to talk to any other department forget. You will not get a response and they will not call you back either. It's hard to get answers. It's very frustrating. read more

I have been going to FIU Health (Faculty Group Practice for FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine) for over a year now. One of my colleagues recommended Dr. Contiguglia for Primary Care, so I made an appointment to see her. One of the nurses, Yislin, often works with Dr. C., and they are both really kind, welcoming, professional, and understanding. They are also great listeners and take great care of patients. I am also extremely happy with Dr. Carcache's service. He is very professional and understanding as well. Some doctors are very judgmental and abrasive, but he does not come off that way at all. He really takes the time to listen to patients' needs, gives really good advice, and finds different methods to help you efficiently. He doesn't treat people like a lab rat and does not rush you in an appointment. 4 stars instead of 5 because I've also had bad experiences with other doctors here. However, before reading further, keep in mind that some doctors that I did not have a good experience with, may be better for you than the doctors that I like more. Or you may have a better experience compared to me. So, do your research, try out different doctors, and pick the one(s) who you feel most comfortable and safe with. I learned that while going to FIU Health that you don't have to stick with the doctor that you do not feel connected to. Two of the doctors that I did not have good experiences with were Dr. Montero and Dr. Foster. I am thankful for their service but I felt very judged, offended, and horrible after seeing them. I saw Dr. Foster 3 or 4 times to give it the benefit of the doubt and I am happy that I did so because I learned that she was not for me. She was rude to the medical student that was in the room as well, but I am thankful that she was available when I needed help the first time. As for Dr. Montero, it was really hard to understand her English, she's very "old-school" in her views and vague in her explanations, and I felt that she was the absolutely the most judgmental doctor I have ever encountered. Again, I am thankful for these experiences with both doctors because now I appreciate good experiences more when I come across doctors who I feel better with and are very caring. If it wasn't for them, I would not have found the doctors that I connect with more. FIU Health has doctors in different specialties such as dermatology, family medicine, psychiatry, travel medicine, gynecology, reproductive endocrinology, hematology, oncology, and internal medicine. It is also a teaching facility for FIU medical students, so before your appointment, the nurse may ask if you're okay with a student sitting in while you're with the doctor. You can say no if you don't feel comfortable, it's ok. You can make appointments by going to FIU Health or calling the number. Sometimes it takes a while for someone to answer, but be patient, because sometimes they are very busy. Several days before your appointment, someone will either call you or you will get emails to confirm your upcoming appointments. Make sure to confirm, otherwise, you may loose your spot and that's not good. Make sure to ask if they accept your insurance too. If you need a parking pass, request it if it's not emailed to you. They are also available at the front desk. There is valet available for $5 I think, or you can use the parking pass to park for free on the 2nd floor of PG5 at spaces marked "FIU Health." When you check in for your appointment, write your name and appointment info on the sign-in sheet at the front desk. You will be asked to pay the co-pay if you have insurance, if not, then out-of-pocket in full. The wait for the nurse to get you can be anywhere between 10 to 40 minutes from my experience. Be patient and keep in mind that it may seem like they are not busy in the lobby or waiting area, they are busy inside (behind-the-scenes). Have your questions written or noted down ready before your appointment, so you can ask everything without forgetting anything. If you may need medicine(s), have the pharmacy's name and information for the prescriptions. Keep in mind that the appointment is timed so don't be offended if the doctor seems to start wrapping things up. If you feel rushed, let them know. Before I finish my "essay" (haha), also keep in mind that the employees are people too. So don't lash out or yell at them in unreasonable situations. For example, if the wait is becoming too long, inquire politely rather than assuming the worst and yell at the front desk staff. I suggest allocating an hour or more before and after the actual appointment time, or don't schedule something an hour or less right after the appointment, because it may not finish in the time and can cause you anxiety. Their psychology program is horrible, none of the psychologists even care about their patients, they simply want you to tell them everything is fine so that you can be on their way, in particular Dr Salgado neglected that I needed psychological medication I go to another psychiatrist now and was given much more professional help. I have my own doctors but due to am issue at my internship I had to come to the clinic at school. I was nervous due to the stories I had heard and I couldnt be any happier! Nurse Ali helped me yesterday and handled my situation like an absolute bad ass!!! I was able to handle everything within 24 hours with Reys (ANRP) as well! The staff is sweet, and the docs seem nice and caring. There are some doctors that are amazing and others that are ok, but the office seems like it would be an amazing catch here in south Florida. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they are well-funded as the nurses and clerical staff always seem overwhelmed. It took about a month and a half to get my Inhaler prescription refilled. That's only one example of some issues I've had, but it was serious for me. I called a total of 5 times and it was finally resolved by Ellie interceding and John and Yislin sorting with the doc. Not sure what took so long, but I ended up looking for another doc office closer to my home and requested my medical records be transferred. This was done in the end of November 2020 for my first appointment in December.... I just received confirmation that it was successfully sent in the middle of February of 2021.... Their turnover rates are insane, with clerical staff coming and going constantly. I'm not sure what management is doing wrong, but it's a lot. Honestly, this office isn't worth it until management actually decides to give a crap and fund, and take care of their employees more. Very sad since the staff and docs are actually pretty good. This is the best medical practice in South Florida. I came here as a first time patient and found the entire experience to be seamless, from scheduling an appointment to receiving lab results. It was about a one month wait to see Dr. Contiguglia - if you are not looking for bloodwork, the appointments are available much sooner because in that case, you could book an afternoon appointment. You can download all of the forms you need to fill out from the website and complete them in advance, which I found to be a huge time saver and I probably filled them out more comprehensively than I would if I was doing it from the waiting room. Parking is free in the nearby garage and I didn't have trouble finding a spot. I was brought back to the exam room right at the time of my appointment and appreciated that I didn't have to wait at all. Everyone from the nurse to the medical student to the doctor herself was extremely professional and friendly. I felt like each of them really took the time to ask questions and, unlike the previous doctor I had been seeing at UM Health, they did not make me feel rushed. I also liked that I stayed in the same room the whole time. Other places feel more like moving cattle where you start in one room for weight and blood pressure, then you move to the exam room, then you go to the blood draw room. I'm also extremely dramatic when it comes to taking blood so I appreciated how comfortable the nurse made me feel and that I interacted with the same people throughout my visit. Two days after my appointment I received the log in information for the patient portal where the results of my blood work were posted. So fast! I'll be back in a few weeks to see the doctor again to review the results and talk about next steps. I appreciate that Dr. Contiguglia is not quick to prescribe medication and she is also not an alarmist. Let's face it, no one enjoys going to see the doctor but this practice makes it as pleasant as possible. Also, you do not need to be affiliated with FIU in any way in order to see doctors here. It is right on the outskirts of the campus so you also don't need to infiltrate the school to find the parking garage or navigate through the million buildings. It's right off 8th Street near 107th Ave. Relieved to finally find a GP I like! read more
