This hotel had a Good price and in a nice area! The beds were so comfy me and my friend crashed immediately ! I would recommend those staying (also breakfast is included so it's a plus!) (Also it had a cool old school elevator which I loved) (Also you can take some pretty cute pics if you have plushies) read more

Fitzgerald Hotel - Bonus: you can pose cute plushies on the hotels desk :3 - Hotels Near Me - San Francisco, California

We had a good time here. Place is small and quaint. Very old school decor but our stay was good.

Not a bad hotel for simply sleeping and showering. No bath tub no air conditioner and the elevator is very old school with a gate you have to open manually and a door so if you're carrying a lot of stuff in, and with friends it's very tight. The breakfast is alright no protein though other than the yogurt and milk. It consisted of bagels, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, milk, coffee and fruit so no eggs or bacon or anything like that. Parking is available but they charge $50 a night for valet so I thankfully found street parking at a meter locally. The front door is always open to the hotel so anyone can just walk in off the street, there's a slider for your key so I had hoped at night they locked the door and your key opened the main lobby but that wasn't the case. It's an alright hotel but nothing special. Was close to bill graham which is why I came to town for a music event and it's close to the Nintendo store so positive points for that read more

Awful experience all around. I booked one night last minute off Orbitz to visit a friend who was visiting SF and staying nearby. Bad decision to try to save a few bucks on a cheaper hotel. I picked it because they supposedly had valet and I didn't want to deal with parking being alone with my luggage. When I drove in, of course I couldn't find a parking spot in front and when I called the front desk said the valet was not available because of construction. But I could still pay $52 to drive to the valet location a few minutes away and walk to the hotel with all my stuff. Thank goodness it was before dark and I was able to check in before getting abducted. Unfortunately, the room did not impress. It was tiny, dark, dingy, dirty, humid, old and an awful view of the center of the building and a dark alley. You could hear everything in every room surrounding mine on the 2nd floor and no air flow opening the window. I even found a long black hair in the sheets and still couldn't bring myself to complain because I was exhausted and scared to leave the room honestly. I barely slept with the noise of Post street and swear I heard a loud gunshot that awoke me during the little sleep I did get. But hey, I chose the location and you get what you pay for in the hospitality industry obviously. I got up super early and the 1 star goes for the hotel retrieving my car from the off-site valet location without a hitch. I also got a little oatmeal from the continental breakfast which was a bonus and thankfully didn't bring home any bugs. But overall, I would never recommend. Other hotels nearby looked much better. read more

Very cute hotel, full of character. They have an old elevator that takes you back in time. The staff could be more friendly but I mostly dealt with the evening staff. The petite room was "cozy and comfy" but if you leave the windows open you can hear what's going on around you. The WiFi was spotty at times especially if you have a room on the 6th floor. The neighborhood is very walkable during the day but at night, just be careful. Overall, I would recommend. read more

Needed a last minute hotel and booked on Expedia. When I checked in, the room they gave me was directly behind the front desk. It's like they converted an office to be an additional room (they gave me an actual key, not a key card), you could see the light from the bathroom directly behind the receptionist and it was a few feet below street level so the window was half way up the wall and barely let any light in. I went into the room, and it was very small with just a bed, small tv and a fridge with a microwave on top. The room was very claustrophobic, the bed was hard as a rock, but the WORST PART was I could clearly hear the front desk receptionist watching a movie on his phone and smell his Subway sandwich. If I opened the bathroom door I would have bumped into the receptionist. That's how close it was to him. I immediately asked for a refund and he said it was non-refundable. I pleaded with him that I just booked the hotel 30 minutes ago and the room is unacceptable. He said it has to be approved by a manager so I contacted Expedia who talked to the manager and said they're NOT going to refund me. I get refund policies but businesses have full control over situations like this. My whole interaction with this hotel from booking the room to leaving the hotel was maybe 45 minutes which cost me paying for 3 nights for a hotel I spent maybe 10 minutes in. The manager looked at my situation and ultimately decided to keep the money. Do NOT stay here! The place is just gross. read more

Me and my friends and I visited as part of our trip we were there for 3 nights . A married couple in 1 room, myself in a surprisingly small adjoining room and my other two friends in the twin room down the hall. We walked in, and we were like, okay, it is a bit dated, but we wanted to make the best of it . We saw the elevator, which I can only describe accurately using the words 'ancient relic', and it was last serviced in 2020. This is important for later. My room had a musty grimy odour, which did not leave my entire stay ( I left both windows open all day every day). There was a dip on the floor in the carpet that I nearly fell over every time I stepped out of bed. Also, there was not even room for my suitcase to go anywhere or for me to hang anything up. Don't forget that my bathroom was definitely not level - it was falling apart, and I put my deodorant on the bathroom counter, and it just slid off as well as everything else I put on there. So I spent three days literally living out of a suitcase that I had to undo every time I needed to use it. However, I had a great shower with good water pressure if you closed your eyes and tried not to think about the yellow stained shower curtain stuck to your leg. Breakfast consisted of anything but a continental breakfast... stale bagel with literally mouldy philadelphia cheese. We opened them and they were so mouldy they were just green. I would have a picture, but staff took them to hide them from other guests. My friend was delighted by her gluten-free apple and was devastated she also couldn't enjoy the lovely green cheese bagel. The icing on top of the cake, however, had to be getting stuck in the elevator. It broke down completely. So the capacity of this elevator was 8 people with an overall weight of 1250 lbs. We were at least 350 lbs under this. To set the scene, my friend is claustrophobic, and this is at maybe 6pm ish. We called the number for a stuck elevator that was taped on the wall and couldn't get through and then the desk help popped his head in the mini window of the lift ( we were in-between level 3 and 4 ) he was like press the buttons which obviously we had done and then just left us with no explanation. Turns out he was going to fix it, but he just didn't tell us. We got through to the hotel, and he was like, yeah, 5 minutes - he had no urgency - perhaps it was a daily occurrence ? He did get us out in maybe 15 minutes of being packed in, but we had no apology, and we still had to walk up the stairs. Whilst the location is great, I would argue that the Fitzgerald Hotel is not worth more than 20 dollars. I would not even book it out by the hour. read more

Mind you I've stayed at this property before and have a wonderful experience when I came to customer service. But last time it was Absolute garbage. The worst type of customer service I've ever experienced. I booked a room and paid for it online, showed up to the property to check in and handed the front desk person my ID and card used to prepay for the room. He looks at my id, reads my name and his whole demeanor changes!!! He just absolutely refuses to allow me to check in. I try to explain to him that I already paid for the room and it's none refundable he didn't care. From my perspective I sense discrimination and bigotry. I can't believe people are still this ignorant in 2023. It made me feel horrible and discriminated against. How do you run a hotel for foreign people from all over the world come to visit the city (Yes even people from the Middle East) and you treat them like that? Great budget hotel! Rooms and bathroom are a little outdated but clean, cozy, and everything we needed. We had a double bedroom (two queen beds) and it included a mini fridge & microwave! I booked our room online on the fitzgeraldhotel.com site and was only charged nightly rate + tax. No other fees, I paid when I arrived, and nothing more when I left. I called before arriving to make sure I didn't have to pay anything else or hidden charges but the price online was the true price. They said hotel websites charge extra fees. That was so helpful because I was going to book on hotels.com and saved almost $100. In total i paid: $380 for 3 nights The front desk attendants were very helpful when we had questions about transportation to/from the airport, gave great recommendations on what to see around SF, and check in/out was easy. The freee breakfast was great. The tv in our room had a weak signal so it cut out a lot. The shower stayed hot even for people who take longer showers like mwah. The airport shuttle should be booked the day before and it's $15 per person but it's cheaper to take the BART. They have luggage service so if you check in early or check out before 12 and you have later flights. I checked in early at 10am and our room was already ready. Great location to major transportation stops and downtown. There's a walgreens nearby if you forget any toiletries or whatever. Felt pretty safe at night but a staff recommended don't go West of the hotel at night. The wifi is pretty slow. The only reasons why I gave it 4 stars but could have been 3 is because our room was on the street side and I'm warning everyone now that it was SO NOISY at night. Lots of honking cars and loud trucks. You could close the window but the room gets pretty warm. Theres a ceiling fan in the room which is nice and they provide another plug in fan. You can kinda hear others above or next to you walking around, closing doors, flushing toilets. Overall, it was a great hotel but the noise was the toughest part and the wifi was spotty. The staff made it a good stay. I would book here again when I visit read more

This place has cockroaches and my friend family stay there with 2 Lil kid not even 3 years old yet and 2 elders personnel. My friend and his family deserve a full refunded for this horrible experience. Me and my friend stay in hotel room when we hang out. This place was one of the place I would never go again. Give a full refund to people if ur room.are up to code. I could care less about ice and stuff. But ac and heating should be included. Waiting for a manager to come in to offer a refunded really. The managers at this establishment need a crash course again in human decency. Don't come here and get sick or worst have cockroaches near ur bed or in the shower. So mad cause my god daughter got sick and was feel bad. read more

Preface: At 2 AM some time ago, I found myself looking at a whole lot of luggage and needing a place for the night. Preferably, the week. Scheduling had fallen through on my move, and I didn't relish the idea of looking for a better place again tomorrow while focusing on sorting matters out. Having an uncharacteristic burden of stuff at my back, I would need some level of security as well. My top requirements, then: 24/7 check-in Private room (I'm a backpacker and typically lean towards hostels) WI-FI I was also running at less 20% battery on my phone out by Ocean Beach, which runs a particular shade of freezing come twilight hours. You know what they say - when it rains, it pours. So time was of some essence. Overall verdict: Tory and Joe were awesome. As was breakfast. Amenities were meh, but I was warm, dry, and fast asleep by 4 AM, so I'm certainly not complaining. This "hotel" is part of a group of three buildings within a block of each other. The main location, where I was initially booked, is clearly a hostel environment, and while the amenities at Fitzgerald speak of a hotel, the hostel mentality carries over 100%. Not good, not bad, just is - since I view from a backpacker standpoint, it suits me fine. Soon as I approached the reception desk, Tory and Joe took one look and immediately moved my original reservation down the street to their sister hotel and into a nice corner room - more space. Even though it meant getting everything over there for me. Those guys deserve gold stars. Management, you listening? The hotel itself dates back some decades, and it shows both in decor and in function. The wallpaper feel as yellowed as the lights, as does everything else. The elevator groans at being hailed. I never took it, since I could bound up and down the stairs twice in the time it took to make one trip. But it's still standing reasonably well otherwise. Again, come with a hotel mentality and you will be flat-out disappointed. Remember that it's actually a private-room hostel extension, however, and you'll shrug it off. Soon as I walked into the room, I was hit by a wall of thick, hot air. Did I mention this was at 3 AM? No mechanism to open the window, as huge as it was. This resulted in a nice film of sweat on the skin always. I hear it's the latest thing, a healthy sheen. Still, i's odd when the stale hallway feels nicer than the room you're in. When you find yourself pausing at the staircase landing to catch a breeze from a window that is actually open. Room amenities are standard. Bed, dual nightstands, chair, TV. Closet with hangers, iron, oscillating fan. Mini-fridge with freezer. Microwave, instant coffee. Private bathroom with sliding door, shower. Could have done without the toilet running a marathon. Breakfast in the basement-level dining area was redeeming. The kitchen puts out quite a spread between several varieties of bagels, English muffins, hearty breads, spreads, cereal, fruit salad, yogurt, juices, milk, teas, coffee, and trays upon trays of whole fruits, all laid out for anyone to self-serve as they please, and as often. Be sure to stay on top of timing if you're nabbing seconds or thirds, since they are as efficient in taking it down when the clock strikes as they are in setting it up. Perhaps most redeeming was the location. Walk out the door, and you're downtown. A safe, easy part of downtown. It's simply a matter of which way you want to meander from there. read more

My wife and I ended up at the Fitzgerald hotel unplanned. Our original destination was Calgary Alberta in Canada. Our trip to Calgary just didn't work out. Being from Michigan we knew nothing of San Francisco. We were on a budget. All the hotels seemed to run $350+ a night. We searched hotels near Chinatown and Fisherman's wharf. That is where we wanted to be. After many searches we came across the Fitzgerald. We could get a room for Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately not for Friday night. So Friday night we slept at the airport from 11 p.m. to 6 p.m. We slept actually means my wife slept while I watched over her and our belongings. We arrived at the hotel at 7 a.m. just hoping they would have a vacant room. No dice. They let us stay in the lobby which was so gracious. We did an early breakfast and tour of San Francisco and returned to the hotel at 1 p.m. Our room was ready for us - 2 hours early. They went out of their way to make sure our room was ready because they knew how tired we would be. The entire staff at the Fitzgerald was very nice and accommodating. Talking to the staff was like talking to friends. They answered all our questions and gave us advice on what to see and where to go. I enjoy a hotel with character and history. This hotel fits the bill. The elevator here is unique. It has a metal grate that you pull across to board the elevator and you take the metal grate and close it for the elevator to close. I would love to stay here a few more weeks. Unfortunately my stay here ends tomorrow morning. I will miss this place. read more

This hotel has a decent location, the front staff are nice, the prices generally reasonable, but beware the rooms are tiny! Plus when it gets warm outside, the rooms get very hot as there is no air conditioning (and the fans they provide don't help much). One of the few hotels that actually provide a breakfast (fairly simple, continental type, but most hotels don't even have that). Also, if you have a lot of luggage, the elevator can be a challenge (it is very small and old so you get hit a lot with the metal grate when trying to get in and out and there is not a lot of room to manuever in). read more

I tried to cancel a reservation 4 days before arriving and there is no way to talk to these people and they charged my card. The number goes straight to voicemail and no one seems answer emails. This place is apparently related to the Adelaide 4153591915 and the Dakota 4159317475 but all three numbers sometimes work or say it's not working. I'm calling my bank and disputed the charge. I don't what's going on but this place is a sinking ship. Don't let it take your money with you. read more

I just have to say, I loved this 100 + year old hotel. I was not in the room very long as I was out 14 hours a day, but it was perfect for sleeping . The rooms are smaller than NYC hotel rooms, but that was fine. Everything is older, but clean. They also had a decent breakfast downstairs each morning and the staff was friendly. I loved the old elevator. There is one thing people should know though. SF is NOT the place to be walking around at night. This is not just the area this hotel is located at, it is all over SF. You can pay top price for a fancy hotel(this place was reasonable) and you are still in a very bad neighborhood. I was shocked to see how run down and scary the city is. There are places to eat around here , but I did not feel safe walking alone to them. I used Door Dash. read more

Because of my Boyfriend's work planning ahead is dang near impossible, so on our second trip to SF we booked last minute again. I initially planned on booking a queen, then after checking the site I saw they only had a "bunk bed" room. It wasn't ideal, but $209 for the weekend in SF isn't common; that and the fact we hardly spend time in our room, my boyfriend and I took it. I was really apprehensive about the room. I kept picturing two child bunk beds. After arriving, my nerves calmed because it was actually kind of cute. My boyfriend and I slept on the bottom bed because the top bunk seemed a bit smaller and a tad bit rough. We slept with no issues, aside from their cleaning service come in while we were half awake. Because of it our room didn't end up getting cleaned, but it wasn't too big of a deal. I always get hot, so to me the room was stuffy, but my boyfriend slept with no issues so I would take his thought on that. The room itself was small, BUT for two people it was great. The shower was a bit on the smaller side, but it did its job. It had a big tv that didn't even get touched and a fridge that was appreciated. We didn't talk to the staff much, but they were helpful during check-in and out. They recommended parking, but unfortunately it was full by the time we got there. There was another lot the block over, so that issue was easily solved. Plenty of restaurants, bars, and little shops to visit. It's in walking distance of plenty. Keep in mind it is SF and yes, there are some homeless, racket, and loud people..but there was nothing too serious. Overall the hotel was very comfy, reasonably priced, and in a great location. We had no issues and I would gladly stay again. read more

this is the best hotel to stay at while you're in San Francisco! The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. I would stay here anytime I'm in San Francisco. For the price, it is a great hotel. The building is older, but it is in a good part of SF especially for tourists. I saw everything I wanted to see in 3 days, convienent location For the room: Two "european" doubles.... smaller then your typical full size bed, but it wasnt bad. No bedbugs. My only beef (why I did not give it 5 stars), there is no AC. The room was hot mid day. They should have provided a fan - we had to ask. The people were geniune and cared. They gave us the fan and showed us the trick of opening the old windows. Overall great experience for a great price. Helped save $$ for my SF trip P.S. The elevator is weird but cool because you experience an old style elvator. Lol I would stay here again. read more

I'm in room 204 right now, June 13, 2016. Workers one floor down keep slamming a lid down, then a loud whirring noise that turns into a low, turbine-like reverberation. Over and over. It's 9:38 pm and I'm going down to suggest work in the laundry room should end. I'll resume this review when I return. Update, 9:50 pm. It's the motor for the elevator, one floor directly below my room. So, no way to control it. I got a last minute deal on last minute.com-you get what you pay for. read more

Fitzgerald Hotel - Hotels Near Me - San Francisco, California

We've never been to San Francisco so I don't have anything to compare this hotel to. First the Pros 1. It's centrally located near several amenities. Liquor, restaurants and transportation 2. It has a very charming aspect to it. 3. It appeared to be clean, but needed some obvious repairs. 4. The staff helped make reservations for outside activities for us. 5. They have breakfast daily 7-10am 6. They have a 12 (noon) checkout time. 7. Rate was roughly $460 per room for 3 nights x 2 rooms. Cons 1. There is no AC 2. There is no parking. You have to park for $30 2 blocks away... PER DAY! 3. No tub! 4. Can't get extra pillows and the pillows in the room are horrible cheap things like the covers. 5. There's no cable! 6. Did I mention there's no AC?????!!!!! 7. The rooms are extremely small. The bathroom is literally 2.5 Feet by 4.5 feet!!!! I'm posting pics. 8. The walls are peeling, scuffed and rotting. 9. The stairs had several missing or unpainted pieces. read more

We stayed at the Fitzgerald Hotel back in September for a quick weekend trip to San Francisco. We chose this hotel due to its price and proximity to Union Square. We wanted to be central to everything and this hotel was just that. We did run into an issue where someone was in the room that we booked, but the quickness in which the hotel staff responded to ensure that we had a room (we got in very late our first night, and yes, we did let them know ahead of time) was greatly appreciated. We did end up getting a room not too long after. The hotel has its own character. It was definitely built in the early 1900s, so you can't go in expecting built in AC (they offer fans at the front desk) and non-creaky floors...as long as you know that and enjoy old buildings, you will enjoy this hotel. Additional benefit...continental breakfast! read more

I checked into this hotel on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. I was too exhausted to complain about how hot it was in the room or about the small space so I removed the top comforter, because it was one of those old comforters that made you itch at first glance and because it didn't look like it had been washed after each stay. Fast forward. I checked out of the hotel on Wednesday. I flew home Wednesday evening and woke up with bite makes all over my neck, back, arms, face, ears too, and even parts of my legs! Initially, I tried to replay my week... but couldn't think of an opportunity where Mosquitos might have attacked me. My next thought was bed bugs- and I am 100% certain that this hotel is infested!! I googled and found that there are other reviews about bed bugs (dating back to 2009!) so I picked up the phone and called. I said, "Are you aware that your hotel has bed bugs?" Expecting the hotel staff to deny these claims, I was shocked when the front desk attendee replied, "Yes." Wow!! He told me they were aware and said they have them "from time to time." Wow!! I will never stay at this hotel again!! I will be contacting the BBB and the health department. I have over 25 bite marks. read more

I stayed at the Fitzgerald recently when I was in San Francisco helping my daughter move out of a downtown apartment. Normally I stay at the Andrews when I have to stay downtown, but they were booked, and the Fitzgerald is right next door, so... Overall, it was a very good experience! The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful. There was a bit of confusion over parking: They apparently have a relationship with a self-park garage on Sutter, about a block away, but when I checked in, they were out of parking coupons. The man at the desk really worked to try to get some brought over asap, but since I was tired (I'd been working since early that morning) and my car was already parked at the Ellis-O'Farrell city garage, I ended up opting to just leave it there rather than hassle with moving it. My room, which was billed as a "petite double," was very attractive and comfortable. One of the thing I love about San Francisco's "boutique hotels" is that you're not in some ultra-sanitized, cookie-cutter place, but rather in a unique situation, and this room definitely fit that bill! I really fell in love with the decor, which was eclectic to say the least. The main feature of the room was a king-sized four-poster bed with an old-fashioned bedspread and attractive metal headboard. The bed was flanked by two nightstands sporting interesting modernistic reading lamps, and over it was a ceiling fan that looked like something from the tropics. Somehow it all just worked! I was on the sixth floor (room 601), in the front of the building overlooking Post St. For me, that was just fine...I used to live in downtown San Francisco (just a block away from the Fitzgerald, actually), and I'm not bothered by city noises (not even by the frequent fire engines). If you're less accustomed to sleeping in an urban setting, however, you might want to request a room nearer the back of the hotel. My room featured a small but functional closet and a full bath (tub/shower, washstand, toilet). Room equipment included an alarm clock, a mini-fridge and microwave, a coffee maker, a hairdryer, an ironing board, an iron, and a flat-screen TV. Of those, the only ones I used were the fridge (worked fine) and the TV (it was a bit sluggish answering the remote -- at first I thought it wasn't working -- but once I figured out the knack of it, it worked fine and got a good picture). The hotel offers free wi-fi, and that worked just fine as well, even with two of us using it. As I was there during a rare cold snap, I also really appreciated the fully adjustable electric heating, which allowed me to keep the room nice and cozy. I'm a Californian...I don't do cold! The only thing the room lacked, in my opinion, was some kind of table or desk (I'm not actually a fan of holding my laptop on my lap) and some kind of TV channel guide (the only way to find out what was on was by channel surfing), but both are minor considerations as far as I'm concerned). The hotel does offer a free breakfast, which takes place in the basement (not as dark as it sounds...this is San Francisco, and basements actually have windows! The breakfast room was really very nice.). I didn't avail myself of it, as I had other plans, but I did check it out: Lots of things for toasting (and things to put on them), instant oatmeal, a fresh fruit salad, and the usual coffee/tea/etc. Just fine if you're looking for a light meal before heading out to see the city, but don't expect to be stuffing yourself on waffles, pastries, and hard-boiled eggs. The hotel is also affiliated with a wine bar, with which it shares a lobby. As I was there on a Monday, the wine bar wasn't open, but I was assured by the staff that it's worth visiting during its regular hours. By far and away the best thing about the Fitzgerald is the location. I mean, you just can't beat it...right in the heart of the Theater District, three blocks from Union Square, a short walk from the cable cars and Chinatown, and surrounded by good eateries (including San Francisco's finest Italian restaurant, Fino, which is right next door!) If I must nitpick, the only downside, other than the parking confusion, might be the lack of any kind of seating in the lobby. No problem for me, but f you're waiting for a taxi or something like that, it might be an issue. Also, it may go without saying for this genre, but this is a San Francisco boutique hotel, and that means that your choices for going up and down are either a small, historic, cage-type elevator or the stairs. If small, historic elevators freak you out and you're not willing or able to do stairs, you may be in trouble...but then, you'd have the same issue with just about any of the city's historic properties. If you're like me, though, and relish the unique nature of a hotel that reflects the spirit of the city in which it's located, you'll be happy here. I'd happily stay again. read more

Probably the worst hotel I've stayed at. I'm not a picky guy but had to stay here during a conference bc everything else was booked (or so my boss says). From the beginning I felt creeped out by the rooms and question how often they get cleaned. Let's start with the closet door, it had holes in it. Then the iron didn't work (not a big thing but one more annoyance) No air conditioning but luckily the weather was nice. However with the window open you can hear everything going on at the street level including garbage truck at around 5:30 am and people talking on sidewalk. The towels were beige/off white and none matched in color tone which tells me they probably were a different original color at some point. I had to call down to figure out how to use the shower Then my ultimate fear may have come true, bed bugs. I have a few bites but still determining if it's that. I'm 90% sure that it's not mosquito bites so that's what I'm guessing. Stay at your own risk. Only good thing: location close to Union Square. read more

SUPER TINY ROOMS! WITH A BIG FRIDGE! lol You cannot walk anywere without running into another piece of furniture. I love the old school elevator though. Be aware of where the parking area spits you out...I went the wrong way on a one way street. NOT COOL. read more

We've stayed here twice and will stay again without hesitation. The main draw for us is that the wonderful (5 stars) Hidden Vine wine bar in the same building (closed on Sun and Mon). Meet up with some friends at the Hidden Vine, and then just head up stairs. It is 3 blocks from Union Square. There is outdoor parking in the back lot for $25 a night. Rates are cheap ($110-140). The rooms are clean and has a bit of victorian flair. In the last stay, the king sized bed took up most of the floor space. Alas, there was only one chair. The wi-fi worked fine. From floor 6, there seemed to be 3 different hotel hot spots we could have used. The lobby staff has been solid and accomodating, the one time we needed to leave bags there all day after checkout. There is no real lobby to speak of, if that matters to you. (Think of a car dealer and the "lobby" there when you wait to pay form some service work done on your car.) In short, it's everything I want from a nice low end SF hotel. I'm surprised at the other low reviews. read more

The fitzgerald hotel is awesome. I have stayed here many, many times over the years and I have nothing but good things to say about the place. The staff is very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable about the city. I have been directed to some of the BEST places in SF because of the staff here. It's a stones throw from union square, chinatown, polk st. and a 20 minute walk to little italy. It's near so many amazing restaurants, cafes and nightlife too. There are bus lines nearby, though it's only about $15 in a cab to get anywhere in the city! They have a great breakfast available to the guests. The rooms are comfortable, nice decoration (seriously, whoever decorated this place has good taste). Basically, the fitz is awesome. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this fine city. read more

For $60 a night, it wasn't too bad. You're in the heart of the city. The location is great. But the room is tinnnnnnny. Like the most absurd small that you have ever experienced. Honestly, a desk couldn't even fit in our room :( If you like to be in your hotel room a lot, I'd suggest finding a new place. The Fitzgerald feels like a hostel, a place where you can safely store your stuff and sleep. The staff is friendly and attentive. SF is a city that is vibrant and fun. I say explore it. But if you're out past midnight make sure you have somewhere to sleep. BART stops running past midnight! read more

I stayed here for 3 nights last weekend (March 2012) Location : Very Convenient Walking Distance to a lot of restaurants and bus/metro stations. Union Square was walking distance from this hotel. Price was good for the location. There was small market right around the corner and a Walgreens the next street over. Hotel Room: I went in knowing the room was going to be small so that didnt bother me at all. The first room we got didnt have a fridge but I knew some did so I requested a room with a fridge and the man at the front desk was very nice about it and changed our room. The second room was much better because it had a good sized fridge plus a microwave and coffee machine. (My room had a safari theme to it and I really thought that was cute) There was a heater but no air but there was a big window and a fan so we were fine. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable The flat screen tv is pretty tiny haha I didnt even see it when I first walked in. For the size of the room the tv was ok. It has connections to plug in an xbox/wii/ps2 etc which might be handy because the tv channels are super boring. Con: No Cable which I didnt think was that bad thing at first but the tv channels were sooooo boring! Also, I didnt like about my room was that you had to hold the "on" button on the hair dryer for it to stay on. That was pretty annoying holding the button against the wall and using the other hand to dry. Hotel Service: I really enjoyed the elevator..pretty old school and it didnt give you a drop to your stomach when it would stop. The complementary breakfast was good , Bagels, English Muffins, Jams etc, Orange Juice, Tea, Coffee, and a Fruit Salad. There are also 2 computers located downstairs where the breakfast is served for guests to use. I don't know why this isn't mentioned on the website (Email Services?) Con: I think I misunderstood the web site when they stated that the hotel had "Laundry Service" I thought they were going to have a laundry mat or something but I found out that it was only for the towels in the room and not your clothes. Overall, pleasant stay and would stay here again if I'm in town. read more

I travel to S.F. a LOT, and have stayed in at least 40 different hotels up here. While not all of them have been spectacular, the places I stay are generally decent, and I have never been motivated to write a bad review, until now. The pluses-- The staff was not rude. Housekeeping seems to make an effort to keep the rooms clean as best they can. The minuses- The rooms- at least the single rooms- are ridiculously small. There is no closet-- not even an armoire. Instead-- they actually have a 3' wooden closet rod sticking about a foot away from the wall with white metal brackets. Below that is an ironing board-- exposed and also sticking out from the wall with metal brackets. The tub is disgusting-- the finish has completely worn off, and what's left is cratered, pitted, and has what looks like many, many decades of worn in filth-- it's not actively dirty...but it looks like it is. They advertise free wi fi, but I was told it's not available on the 6th floor-- -"you can go to the basement to use it" was the suggestion from the front desk-- with no trace of rudeness or even a consideration that this might be inconvenient. It feels like a worn out old dorm room and is about as tastefully decorated. It's loud-- The city is going to have city noises-- but it's loud inside... You can hear the water in the pipes, footsteps, people walking down the hall, and best of all, the elevator. It's one of those old school ones with the metal folding gate. Every time someone goes in or out, the gate slams shut-- like someone slamming their room door but louder. This was called a 3 star hotel on Booking.com-- I've stayed in dozens of three stars in the city, and this is not even close. If you need a place that's safe and clean and literally don't care about anything else you will be fine. Otherwise I would avoid this place. read more

First off I understand that when you book a hotel for under $100 a night in San Francisco, you don't have the right to expect much. I booked a single room - their smallest - as I am only here for the week to work and don't need much except a place to sleep. I have tried a few of these so called three star hotels in SF and this is the worst so far. The hotel seems nice enough from the lobby and my room is clean. The bathroom is a pretty good size, although my shower is very small - smaller than some I have used in Europe. The rooms could use some updating as the comforter looks like it is from the 70's. The room does have a small refrigerator and a microwave and absolutely no closet space. That could just be my room as I have the smallest room they offer. My biggest complaint is that the hotel says that each room has cable TV. My TV pulls in about 5 channels cleanly and three of them are constantly playing really old TV shows from the 60's and 70's. On the bright side I am able to catch up episodes of That Girl and McHale's Navy... I don't recommend this place unless you are in a bind... read more

For the price, this place is brilliant! I booked it online at bookings.com and I'm currently 6 days in. The rooms are small, but they have everything you need. A TV, a nice en-suit shower and toilet and a fridge. The room is decorated in a very pleasant Art Deco design and I just love it! The staff are very friendly, and the breakfast is a perfect mix of toast, beagles and fruit salad. The cleaners are also very friendly and willing to help if they can. The location of the hotel is very good as well. 2 blocks away from Union Square, 10 minuets walk from the financial district and close to BART and MUNI. I will defiantly stay here when I come back to my city by the bay! read more

My husband and i stayed here for a week and it was so comfortable and clean. The staff is very knowledgeable and recommended several restaurants, beaches, and what busses to take, etc... On our first day the front desk guy told us to take this bus that was across the street to lands end. We would never have thought of doing this on our own. He gave us a free map, and marked it up with bus routes and walking routes. It was absolutely gorgeous with paths carved out on these cliffs looking out into the vast ocean. They also have free breakfast in their little cafe downstairs: english muffins, bagels, tea, coffee, and fresh fruit salad. And they have free internet and computers available at the breakfast cafe! Here's the thing: the room is kind of small. But seriously, we couldn't ask for anything more perfect because the only time we were in the hotel room was to sleep. There are way too many things to do in SF! Also, this hotel is literally steps away from Union Square, which is where all the transit systems meet. Every cable car, muni, and bart stops or starts here. Our room was quiet, clean, and sunny. Our window faced the back street, which is way quieter than the front of the building. At this price and location, this hotel is a steal. read more

This review is based on hospitality service, as I have not stayed here. This level of service is disheartening. For context, I'm an Executive Assistant with 11 years of service. My company booked through a travel agency. The travel agency we booked through does not list the type of room booked. I called to check what type of room was confirmed with the booking. Upon calling, I was informed our booking was canceled. Our travel agency has the booking as confirmed, and the hotel has it as canceled. I explained this to the front desk representative, and she understood and transferred me to the manager to help fix the situation. I spoke with a manager (I'm not sure of her name, but she had a British accent). I've never received an absolute disgusting level of service from a manager in hospitality. She began to berate me over the phone because I was confused about why the reservation showed as canceled on their end. She said comments such as "You made a mistake, and now you're trying to fix it" (mind you this reservation was booked over a year ago and not by me as I'm new with the company), "You're acting extra and this is not normal", "Have you had to deal with hotel bookings before", "Why did you call in today if the reservation wasn't canceled by you", "I've dealt with people like you before." I know what you're up to." etc. I'm stunned as this is not the type of service expected in hospitality. In hindsight, I should let the travel agency deal with it, but this still does not excuse this level of service Note to upper-level management: please train your staff on how to handle mistakes that are not the guests' fault and also prepare them on language and what hospitality means. read more

Stayed at the Hotel for one night. I used their site to make the reservation and on their site it said you get a discount with your AAA card. There was no place on their site to put in for the AAA discount so I called the hotel and they told me it would be given at the desk when I arrived. NO did not happen, the lady at the desk started giving me double talk about my rate being low already but how could that be as I was getting their regular rate listed on their site. We were on the 6th floor went to breakfast and came back to find that our keys did not work. We were walking the stairs as the elevator was like a closet. We had a really hard time getting our car out of parking, took 40 mins with a lot of excuses. I would not stay here again. Skontich read more

Let this place be your last resort hotel. Walk in the room and it sounds like the people and traffic from outside are in the room, so loud! We asked for a new room and are moved to the sixth floor. Room main lights don't work. The place hasn't seen a layer of paint in years, old paint scuffed and peeling. Rusted metal in bathroom. Uncomfortable pillows, dingy dirty carpet. Internet slow and drops connection a lot of the time. Hotel manager doesn't greet with hello good morning, but with excuse me do you have a room here? Water pressure in the shower is a joke, rough scratchy bath towels. I could go on and on... read more
