It's a serene spot up above the chaos of Old Spitalfields Market, and the coffees and smoothies are quite good. We could have gone for a small bite to eat (after our workout at a rival gym, as it turns out), but it looks like they're still working on adding food to the menu, so it's just beverages for now. In any case, this would be a great place to sit and read, relax, or chat, and it's got overhead heaters for the chillier days.

The room is large and so fit a ton of people but it didn't feel crowded at all, had plenty of space between mats. The changing room/showers are spacious and clean, have electronic lock lockers, and are stocked with cowshed products I believe, which is a nice bonus. I think you get one towel for your mat and can rent a second towel for showering after for a pound, not a huge deal, but there are some other boutique fitness spots like Ten Health & Fitness that have lovely fluffy towels and don't charge for this. At the end of the practice the instructor comes around and gives everyone a little 5 second massage/oil treatment with a cool damp towel over you which was so great and felt fabulous at the end of practice, provided you don't mind being touched. Overall this is the nicest yoga facility I've been to in the city, I've tried others like Yotopia, Fierce Grace (packed and smelly), and TriYoga Camden (stressful zoo of a changing room), and this wins for me, the super calming zen environment just feels like you are "treating yourself", I left on a cloud. I just wish there was one closer to my flat in central london, I would go weekly if I didn't have to take a tube ride to/from. Also wish they offered prenatal yoga, I would make a special trip definitely if they offered that.

However, I wasn't impressed with the instructor: he didn't give any introductions to new people and he only paid attention to a select couple girls in the class. I also went in the morning so the shower line was crazy long, so just plan accordingly. The bathroom itself is quite large though so it doesn't get uncomfortably crowded. I would definitely go back, but I'd probably try a different instructor.

If I could give this place more stars out of more stars I would!!…read more I am writing form on Ex-Fatty point of view, and I mean this in no disrespect to myself but it is a different mentality. I see exercise differently, I feel, to other people. This place gives me no option but to push my fitness boundaries and achieve personal goals. It may look intimidating, from their Instagram account. Handfuls of 10 packed HE-man esque men and woman,,, BUT this inspires me. The way I view the red-lit dungeon that you are kept prisoner in for 60 minutes is that you will always leave feeling incredible. There are moments you feel like your legs are going to fall off and your head will burst BUT when they say those magical words for the last time ... "ANNNND RECOVER.." you feel like SUPERMAN! At a 'normal' Gym I am so intimidated by the beefcakes at the weight stands that I don't go near it, where at Barry's I am running along side Pro-athletes feeling like we are in this together. I've read previous reviews and YES the trainers can be a little intense but this is HIGH INTENSITY training. There is a part in the class that you really want to give UP. Like really want to GIVE UP! Thats when they start shouting at the that lazy demon inside to .. GO AWAY! Just see it as the trainers are there for you to get the most out of your money.. without them you wouldn't work as hard.. and just to finish off with a little pearl of wisdom I have learnt whilst taking these classes.. Just remember..... IT ALWAYS ENDS!!!!

When I arrives at my first workout I was told the chest press was gone, thy had removed it and wouldn't know when it would ever be back. I then tried to get out o my contract, and we basically forced to stay in it, even though I only really use the chest press, a few free weights and cardio in my workouts. I joined Energie Fitness a few blocks away and love it. Though I don't love being extorted in this way from Gym Box. Honestly and truly the worst gym experience of my life. STAY AWAY.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES…read more This gym is nothing short of a scam. Their cancellation policies are incredibly misleading and designed to trap you into paying for services you don't want or need. You will find it nearly impossible to cancel your membership without a hassle, and even when you do, you'll be met with unfair fees and practices. On top of that, the gym itself is an absolute nightmare. The space is ridiculously small, with no room to move around or enjoy a decent workout. It's overcrowded, and the lack of personal space makes it uncomfortable at best. If you're not a fan of working out while constantly bumping into others and dealing with sweat from people around you, this is definitely not the place for you. The entire experience is a nightmare, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Save yourself the stress and frustration - stay away from this gym. It's by far the worst experience I've ever had to deal with.

I leave feeling invigorated and really positive after each session and always look forward to a hot yoga session (unlike the normal gym which I also do three times a week but totally dread each time). The instructors allow you to move at your own pace and offer modifications to take into consideration different experience levels. In each class you get a real mix of experience levels, ranging from "I definitely can't stand on one leg" to being a total elastic band. This being said, the class has always felt really inclusive and after time I am noticing my body become stronger and more toned. There are different personalities in each instructor however the practice is consistent and it's easy to get into a rhythm with all of them. Particular shout out to Omae who is completely supportive and explains instructions more clearly than any other instructor I've ever had (from any yoga studio!). There is a friendly atmosphere in the studio, however it does tend to get very busy during peak times, both inside the studio and in the changing rooms. This can sometimes result in human tetris inside the studio and a little bit of waiting in the changing room. The communal showers also took some getting used to however this now seems normal. I've seen other reviews that complain about queues but I seldom see this happening, to be honest. I would definitely reccommend taking a trip!

I understand that Bikram, or yoga for that matter, isn't for everyone - some love it, some hate it…read more However, to go for one month and call it 'an hour and a half of stretching and shifting from one pose to another' is so incredibly ignorant and clearly comes from a reviewer who is a beginner that never bothered to listen to her instructors or push herself to achieve the challenging workout she claims to crave. I've practiced at several Bikram studios - LA, NY and here. London City is not my favorite for a variety of reasons: the counter people aren't particularly friendly, the spaces outside the dojo, including the entrance and the changing rooms, are ridiculously cramped and the classes can get packed to the point of absurdity (which is why it gets 4 stars, the practice itself would get 100). Despite these petty irritations, I fucking LOVE Bikram yoga. And despite my lack of love for the studio itself, the best Bikram teacher I've ever had is at City. His name is Raj and if you're lucky enough to have a class with him for the love of God, listen to what he is saying, he will take your practice further. Yoga requires patience. It requires you to listen to your body and to push yourself. It requires you to quiet your mind and to focus on your breath. If you work at it, you'll grow from it. Additionally, the 1.5 hours or holding poses, breath work and pushing yourself will build strength, drop weight and change your body in ways you can't imagine. And it'll happen fast. I can't say enough good things about it.
