I'd always been interested to learn martial arts and decided to check them out last month. They had…read morean introductory special at an affordable rate that included 3 private lessons, a uniform, and a full month of lessons (up to 6 days per week). They teach 8 different styles of martial arts, including various weapons like katana and nunchuks, so there's always something new to learn. On top of that, there is a deep pool of talent in the teaching staff both locally as well as nationally and beyond. The culture is respectful and low-ego, making sure every student feels welcome and working with them at the level they're at. At the same time, the instructors don't hesitate to push you to grow to where you want to get to. I have already passed my first belt test and am on my way to black belt, which takes 2-3 years on average. I recommend anyone considering martial arts to check out OYD at this location or elsewhere around Boston!

My 12-year-old daughter has been training with Oom Yung Doe for almost two years now. She informed…read moreus recently that her focus on academics and her energy for extracurricular activities are all due to her training with Oom Yung Doe. My husband and I are grateful to Will and Danielle and also to the other instructors from other locations and regional instructors who have given their time to help and share their lessons with our daughter. When I was looking for a martial arts school for her two years ago, my goal was to find a school that can help give her confidence after experiencing some challenges in middle school. I checked other schools in the area and noticed that most schools were focusing much on strength, self-defense, self-discipline, perseverance, and confidence but not so much to train the body and mind to learn about self-worth, kindness, and respect not only for one's self but to her peers. From the moment she had her first visit the focused has never been about achieving a black belt but achieving a life based on values. Our family feels fortunate to have found a safe and supportive school for her to grow and be part of a community where she is accepted no matter where she is.

For the first time in forty years, I can say I have been free of back pain for a full year! And dare I say it -- I am skiing stronger and hitting the golf ball straighter. Her technique is highly customized to individual needs, and if you want to see what she does, try her open "Align and Balance" session at Owl's Nest on Wednesdays. (Refer to the "Resort Calendar" under "Wedding and Events" at https://www.owlsnestresort.com/resort-calendar/.) Spending time with Courtney for me is a great investment to stay active.

I couldn't find relief and it was even troubling me at night when I tried to sleep. I was worried that it would prevent me from enjoying the fast approaching waterski and golf season. That's when I connected with Courtney Van Etten at Functional Fittness. Courtney crafted a "menu" of exercises that relieved my issue in 3 days. She also created specific menus for slalom water skiing and golf. I am so happy to report that I've been out skiing over 60 days and have no pain when I golf twice a week. (Now if I could do something about my putting ...) Functional Fittness exercises have increased my energy - which is also so helpful for me, a 70 year old "Nona" who takes care of my 1&1/2 yr old and 4 year old grandsons 3 days a week. Thank you Courtney!!!

It's less like a place you go in the summer, and more like a family. I cannot say enough good about this place. I attended for 9 summers and only wish I could still go back every year. In addition to the wide range of activities, the people are great and the food is pretty fantastic, particularly when compared to the stuff being served up at other summer camps. A few of the activities offered to campers: Archery, rowing, wind surfing, sailing, swimming, photography, ceramics, leather craft, copper enameling, silver craft, basketball, soccer, ropes course, water skiing, canoeing, theater, tennis, and more. Campers can attend for 2-week sessions, up to a total of 8 weeks. At the end of the second and fourth sessions, there's a giant themed banquet that is tons of fun. Camp Nokomis is on Lake Winnipesaukee, so the reason I went there was to have a good camp experience and swim in the lake. Boy was I wrong. Although I was on my towns swim team at the time, and had much swimming experience, I only made it into the level one swim class, and not only did I have to have swim class with girls much younger than I, it made me unable to swim in the lake!!! It was a HUGE disappointment. This left me with nothing to do during free time, and left me bored as well as homesick. Not only that, but many of the activities I signed up for I did not enjoy, especially kayaking, because we were not really kayaking, but merely learning how to save ourselves if the kayaks happen to flip over, which is highly unlikely. I will not go into too many details, but just no that I do not recommend camp Nokomis, and I was not the only one there who had a bad time,v
