We went to see Qualia here last night. The sound bath before the show was incredible. So many different instruments were used beautifully! The actual movie was horrible. Wow! What a neat place! The Fiske Planetarium is located within the CU Boulder campus in the beautiful city of Boulder. Parking is located right outside the planetarium and costs a dollar per hour. Very reasonable. If you check out their showtimes online, you will see right away that there is a show for everyone. Ranging from music light shows featuring music of Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Taylor Swift, etc; to just exploring space; to full on movies, there really isn't a show that you won't find appealing. I have personally been there 3 times: once for a Deftones show (amazing!), a space show (amazing!), and a Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon/The Wizard of Oz show (amazing!). Each show was so different but all of them were great. I would highly recommend buying tickets ahead of time. Even though most shows do not sell out, there are some that are very popular and do. The tickets are $12 for adults. read more

My review is long overdue, but I absolutely loved "We Are Stars" and the intro we got before the show. Prices for the tickets weren't bad and it was easy to obtain the physical tickets despite the online ordering fluke I encountered. Staff was super friendly and it was an overall great experience. I went to see Pink Floyd dark side of the moon. Having seen this same idea once before at Gates Planetarium, I can say if you compare the two the Fiske planetarium version is maybe okay at best. The imagery appears to be a bunch of random recycled images probably from other shows and there is no continuity or sense behind what is being displayed. Even the wow effect of watching it on a planetarium screen seems to dull when you realize it looks like someone patched together random scenes having little to no relationship to what song is playing. I don't think it was a waste of money to go see it but you if you are expecting a Gates planetarium quality show, you are going to feel let down. I suspect this is probably put on by some college students and I would give them a C grade for at least the effort. There are other shows I suspect were professionally produced and maybe are a better show to go see. Also when you say the doors open a half an hour before showtime and they only let in people maybe 3 minutes before the showtime.... and the entrance door is not marked so you wait and wait wondering if you are really at the entrance (doesn't look like one, looks more like an exit). Also parking anywhere near the place is almost non existent. You have to pay for parking anywhere nearby, it is not much maybe a couple of dollars but that is if you are lucky enough to find a space. Who designed this place? What you thought everyone would be okay with walking a quarter mile to go to it? By the way CU, this place is NOT ADA compliant, not even close. Don't say you are because you are not. read more

Fiske Planetarium is on the CU campus, we were able to park nearby in a CU lot. Don't be fooled by the poorly worded sign indicating the free shuttle. The shuttle is free, not the parking! Very inspiring eye candy. Get your tickets in advance because they do sellout! This theater is a little rundown. read more

We went in a group for a Saturday afternoon planetarium show. The lobby is full of great displays of astronauts, space related exhibits and even a tiny display of things to purchase. The planetarium experience was excellent. Even I learned some things as an older adult. I'm sure the kids learned even more. The staff was kind, knowledgeable and accommodating. read more

This place was very cool. We lucked out and saw an amazing show - we almost did not go because the tickets were $30-ish and that was just a little too much for a 60 minute show. However, if you look at the site closely - there is a stand-by ticket for $12 - we got those and got lucky - the show was amazing. read more

I've been a patron and fan of Fiske Planetarium since I was a student. Which is a really long time (let's not discuss that part). I've always loved it, enjoyed the educational shows and the laser light shows - rocked out to Floyd I don't know how many times. Definitely worth it. This place is so much more fun than a movie theater - and so much less expensive. Parking is free in the parking garage on the weekends. Highly recommend the uninitiated give it a try. They frequently run a Groupon offering that cuts the price by around/almost half. Definitely worth it. read more

I'm addicted to this Planetarium! They have the best, very affordable, fun laser light shows ever! Discounted at a student price. It's %100 kid friendly and perfect for the whole family. My only suggestion is to sit in the very back so you can see the whole view. There is limited parking so come early- 30 minutes is exact. They have astronaut ice cream, space alien toys, the science exhibit, planets and sweet astronomer students who enjoy representing the exhibits and dropping some knowledge on you. The shows typically last about an hour, and they often bring very nice music and facts all at the same time. It's becoming our go to for fun. read more

I cannot remember the name of the train wreck we just saw. The hubs just reminded me - Colors of the World. The first part of the show was an informational talk about stars that was really interesting. The laser show was terrible. Stereotypical images from around the world paired with bad music. The lasers were basic images that moved so fast we kept our eyes closed most the time. I definitely think there is potential here but we chose poorly. read more

Came here for a David Bowie Light show on a Friday night. I read reviews about how it looks like a 90s screensaver, and yes sometimes it really did remind me of that. I expected more of a laser light show. But that said, it was still fun. They choreographed the visuals to the music, and that was pretty cool to see for all ages. But I do think these shows are unintentionally geared towards people high on something. Sometimes I wished the music was a bit louder to really surround yourself in the experience. Also, we sat in the back row, as soon as you walk in, and had a nice spacious view. read more

I didn't know this place existed until I found a Groupon deal for tickets, and went to check out the kid cudi -Man on the Moon laser show last night. I really enjoyed the full dome screen, there's probably about 50 seats or so in the theatre so it is a semi intimate setting. The visuals were amazing and crisp, my only complaint is the bass levels on the speakers need to be adjusted as there were points during the show (and the EDM one..That was more noticeable) where the noise was rattling and rather distracting. When we arrived there was a CU basketball game wrapping up, and police directing traffic had cut off the entrance to turn into the lot. We found that going around on baseline got us in the other way, in case this is an issue for you. I definitely recommend this experience at night for adults and I'll be back to bring the kiddo during the day. read more

I give the planetarium 35 billion stars....get it? I went here for the MUSE laser show. Turns out MUSE sucks, but thats not the planetarium's fault. If you go for a show, be sure to sit on the side with the booth so youre facing the world axis (its not directly above you). It looks like a green smudge. OMG - you forget how cool planetariums can be! We went on a groupon - pretty much our last option before it expired, but it was a fabulous night! We went with the bella nova show and honestly could have just listened to the fella describe the sky for the 30 minutes that,that show took. It's apparently the most detailed something or other in the world right now, so what we are seeing "stars" wise is just a fraction of what is being displayed. WOAH! Seats are pretty comfortable, although i'm pretty sure my neck hurt just from looking up for an hour! The outside/waiting area is pretty dinky and dated, but that's ok since i'm sure they spent the money on what is inside those doors! There are some fun and interesting displays, and we will be back! The other neat thing if you are early is that they have the solar system on a walk way near the planetarium out for a couple miles through campus. We didn't have time to do it - and i wore cute shoes, not tromping around shoes, so maybe next time! read more

Do NOT bring your kids. They are NOT kid friendly. Even when your kids are excited about the show and talk about it (5 people in the theater) they will kick you out without a refund. They should probably put an age range on their website. read more

Booked a Groupon for the Nirvana Laser Show. So, we thought that there would be a movie of Nirvana or at least images of Nirvana in the background, as they do of scenes of Colorado. Nope. Just lasers. Lasers in shapes, going somewhat along with the music. Reminded me of a nineties screen saver. Good thing we only paid five bucks each. Many of the chairs were ripped or broken. They really need to replace them or get new ones....that recline...because your neck does start to hurt after a while. Also, there is no food or drink anywhere nearby if you go when school is out of session. I walked all around to try to find a vending machine for a juice, bottle of water, and/or snack and every surrounding building was closed. The planetarium itself only has a water fountain. Staff was nice, but the exhibits were a little sad. read more

Great planetarium and got a good deal on tickets on Groupon. We saw the galactic laser show and really wished we saw any other show! It was cool but not what we expected! Too cartoony for our taste and even the kids weren't digging it. I guess we expected to learn more and see more of the planets and solar system etc. Overall a great place and reasonably priced and something to do in the area while vacationing. read more

Nice experience seeing the movie about Black Holes, along with the extra information given about them and other great astronomy facts. If you go for the Friday evening show, you may also be able to look through the telescopes at the observatory! That was an unexpected treat! We really enjoyed the informative Bella Gaia show, the imagery was beautiful and provided a great view of the Earth. It was extremely interesting. However, the science talk that accompanied the show was slightly off topic. We will go back for sure, they seem to offer a wide variety of shows which offers something for everyone. read more

WOW -- just Amazing. I hadn't been into a Planetarium in a very long time...I was here years ago, and its nothing like it was back then. Now the dome is a huge video projection. Went to the KBPI TOOL show - G'Damn! Your face will melt off with what they can do with the screen...nothing like the old laser shows. They were flying through the Solar System and the stars. It looked like Star wars except its all real. It felt like you were in the image. read more

Amazing, amazing, amazing. My wife and I have gone on a number of occasions for a variety of different shows and have been incredibly impressed with all of them. The individuals who narrate, most of whom I believe are graduate students, are exceptional. They mix non-hokey humor with great information and the presentations are flawless. This is a great place for adults or kids - there has been a fairly even mix at all of the shows we've gone to, and they even cater to the late night stoner crowd with laser light shows. So if your a parent, a couple, by yourself, or baked out of your mind and in need of some 'whoa duuuude' overstimulation of your toasted head, this is the place for you! Also, they have fairly regular and very affordable Groupons that you should take advantage of! read more

I attended the most amazing live piano concerto set to the Aurora Borealis film on full blown 360 ceiling view. Mesmerizing! I was surprised at the clear wonderful acoustics; heavenly views along with piano melodies. Plan to repeat this visit again in the coming weeks. read more

My husband and I have visited twice for the rock laser show, which is awesome :) They have some cool educational displays in the main area, nice artwork, and the staff are friendly. I love that the chairs are already reclined a bit so you can naturally lay back and enjoy the laser show :) I highly recommend visiting for a fun date night or just a fun outing. Went to see the black holes movie. The first half of the hour there was a University student talking about the earth, sun & stars. Very interesting! The second half was the movie narrated by Liam Neison, pretty cool as well. This is a very nice, small planetarium that has comfy seats! You need to move your head around a bit to sometimes see everything so your hair might get a bit messed up. Tucker prices are reasonable, around $10 bucks each, or I had a groupon for bogo. On Friday nights they have open house )starting at 8pm) to their observatory where they have 3 huge telescopes set up & a few astronomy geeks to show you the constellations, the moon & in general answer any questions one may have. Pretty fun & educational all at the same time! We were supposed to pay to park, we were running late & forgot but luckily there was no ticket on our car when we came out, so we either got really lucky or parking is free after a certain hour? Just double check if you go, nothing worse than a speedy parking ticket! Sorry no pics on this one, everything was so dark & flash photography would have been annoying to others. read more
