We made a pit stop in Torquay to check out the surf shops and beaches. Afterwards, we were looking for a place to eat; Fisho's Torquay looked the most appealing. They specialize in fresh, local seafood. It's a higher end type of fish and chip spot. We dropped in on a Wednesday afternoon (around 1:15pm). It must have been a house previously as there's tons of seating inside and out; everyone was outside sitting on the four large communal tables and bar stools along the fence. The music was great (a good mix of new and old school hits). The menu is a simple one pager and they update it to let you what's available. Basically, the options are fish & chips, fish & salad (three salad options), tacos, share platters ($72.00 AUD for four people) and sides. There's also wine (sparkling, red, rosé and white), beer & cider and soft drinks. They had Winkipops for dessert. - Fish & salad ($22.00 AUD) - we opted for the calamari (grilled) with heirloom tomatoes, basil, kale and balsamic. Grilled calamari was oh so tender and perfectly grilled. You could really taste the basil in the salad mix of kale and tomatoes. Great side of salad. - Fish tacos ($21.00 AUD) - you get three tacos and choose between fried or ceviche gummy shark. We choose the latter. They're corn tortillas topped with cabbage, coriander, chipotle, tomatillo and charred pineapple salad. Wish the tortillas came out hot and crispy but the gummy shark was excellent and all the ingredients worked. It's pricey for three tacos but the quality is there. Even the chipotle had a slight kick to it. Fresh, excellent seafood; just leaning towards the pricier side. However, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. 4.5 stars.

After a couple hours of paddling around trying (and generally failing) to catch waves, we decided to head to Fisho's for a quick lunch. The reviews were excellent so we felt it was worth the 20 minute walk. We went up to the counter and got recommended the Fish Tacos (gummy shark) three ways: grilled, fried, and ceviche. I ordered a beer as well. I hadn't been in Australia long so the concept of eating shark tacos didn't feel super appetizing. But gummy shark, also known as flake, is actually quite good and quite common. Especially in fish and chips. We took a seat by the fence and dug in to the tacos. We enjoyed the variety of getting the flake three ways. I found the ceviche one excellent, the fried one good, and the grilled one 'just ok'.

Charming place.

An absolute best find of the day! Fishos is definitely Torquay's little gem. We stopped by for lunch yesterday and I was instantly in love with this place. Charming atmosphere, panoramic views from the comfort of your table and the food... oh the food, was one of the best fish and chips I have the pleasure of devouring. Simple one page dead-on menu and they did advertise on using local and fresh ingredients, so yay for that. We got one of the family boxes (serves 4) for $65 with the options of grilled or fried as well as sides of salad or chips. Opted for the deep fried tempura style, and boy I did not regret this at all! All hail to the platting, it arrives in a huge basket and beautifully presented! The calamari was definitely the highlight of the dish, uber tender and flavorful! The fish and potato hotcakes were delicious as well. Humble and friendly service, price point might be a little steep, but for a memorable dining experience in a gorgeous setting, I would be back in a heart beat!

Fish tacos are better than just about anything. I can't wait to return here and I'm devastated that it's two hours from where we live. Having said that, distance will not deter me!!! We had the charred corn, a side of chips and the fish tacos (3 per serve!) which were the perfect ratio of sweet and spicy and luscious texture of the fish was utter perfection. The beer on tap was also a hit and we left very full and incredibly content. The staff were attentive and helpful, even recommending other places for us to check out locally which we really appreciated. I can't wait to go back. It's now a top spot in my book to take overseas guests and traveling friends.

All that 81bux well spent.

Think back to yester-years to when Fish n' Chips cost $5 and came wrapped in that day's Newspaper... FISHO'S is nothing like that !!! Fisho's is today's Fish and Chippery! Great location, an old weatherboard house renovated to an indoor/outdoor spot! Right on the esplanade, overlooking the shoreline - it doesn't get more Torquay than that! Don't go pass the Tacos - a house specialty - prepared cevichè or tempura batter style, you can't go wrong with either choice. Three FULL soft shell taco's will set you back $18 - not bad, but still $6 a taco is the market rate in cities like Melbourne :( The Box meals are pretty good value also - $63, good for 4 or more. They range from grilled or tempura battered gummy sharks (your stock fish and chip fish!) and come with the "modern" works - hand cut chips, calamari, sweet potato salad, garlic aioli, dill tartare etc.. Really simple ala-carte menu - choose your fish from their catch of the day - decide how you want it prepped and what sides it should come with. Grab a glass or bottle of Pińot Griss - a sure bet with anything "ocean". Overall... we ate there last night... we're gonna eat there tonight! A+

Fresh and local "feesh" across from Bells in "Torkey." After a long day of charging the outside of Bells, I wish, actually, we just got back from driving to the 12 Apostles and I we wanted to check out the legendary surfer town of Torquay. A young man working at the local Rip Curl shop suggested this place since his girl friends dad owned the place. He explained that the name comes from the Australian name for a Fish and Chip shop, which they call a "fisho." Fisho's is a quick service eatery with a couple of communal tables, and counters that are at the windows, and in addition there is a large out door eating area. That day with a 15 C temp with a 10 C wind chill, we opted to eat inside. The menu is pretty basic since they serve locally sourced fish caught right off Point Danger, at least according to the man at the counter. That day they had a gummy shark, calamari, and two other fishes that I forget what they are called. You get to order the fish grilled or tempura style with different sides like chips, salads, or rice. They also have box dinners for families and larger parties. After you place your order they give you a number that is on a surfboard fin which you take your seat. They also have draft beer in 10oz glasses which I guess they don't want you to get all maggoty. The food came out in 10 minutes, and for being pretty busy that was fast. We ordered the Calamari and Gummy Shark both tempura style. I guess tempura style is a euphemism for deep fried, but the batter on the calamari was very light and crispy as well as on the gummy shark. The calamari was all steak and no legs and was probably the most tender I have ever had, probably since it was fresh and the man at the counter touted that they have no freezers on the premises. The gummy shark is actually a small shark about the size of a Salmon so you don't have to worry about mercury concentrations, and anyway the water that it is caught in is pristine. The shark meat was very tender and light and was a great substitute for the traditional cod used in Fish and Chips. The chips were nice and crispy and the Asparagus salad was perfect! If Fishos was in my neighborhood, I would be going every week!

Fresh locally caught fish served on heaps of greens and grains. Local beer on tap and wine from the local vineyards just off the great ocean road so grateful we found this spot!

The Box! Amazing

Locally caught sustainable fish and chips. What's not to love? I also hear they never use from frozen fish either. If the fried offerings aren't your speed, give the grilled opinion a go. The salads are extremely fresh with a unique twist. Well done fishos

A lovely spot to sit and enjoy a fresh and healthy lunch/dinner overlooking the ocean. Salads are sensational and the specials change daily. From Coffin Bay oysters to Ceviche, grilled Calamari to Tempura fish of the day - Fisho's know how to deliver great tasting meals (and icy cold local wine and beer!). Also a cute little play area for kids.

Cute outdoor seating. Enjoy your meal in the sun

Amazing food. Good service. Delicious drinks on tap (beer and cider). There is even wine available. Wonderful ambiance I'm general. Modern, trendy outdoor and indoor seating. Good tunes playing. Beautiful view of the ocean. I could keep going with the compliments, but you should just check it out for yourself. If you're not convinced to try it out by now, then nothing will please you in life.

The today's fish

This is the best restaurant in Torquay, no doubt Easy to find via Google Map, its outlook is also attractable. Many car parks available nearby. Just opposite to the sea. As our first stop in the Ocean Road, this is a good start. The fish dishes are tasty and full. Lots of veggie and all are well done. We ordered and within 10 minutes the dishes arrived. Comes in boxes and they are very useful. Can dine inside or just takeaway if you have leftovers. Must eat in Torquay.

Excellent dinner to start our Great Ocean Road journey!…read more Recommend a res, we didn't have one but they were nice enough to seat us right away. Started off w the salt and pepper squid and a dozen oysters. Perfect. Squid was just the right amount of light, crispy breading. Oysters were creamy and delicious. They don't come w fixings, make sure to ask for your hot sauce ahead of time. While the dinner selection was tough, we opted for the lamb pita for two reasons. 1. The entire table of 6 next to us got it. 2. When we asked the waitress for a rec, guess what she said.... Being a bit of a gyro nut and growing up on Lebanese food back home, this dish hit the mark. Nice crust on the well seasoned and moist lamb, plenty of veggies but more importantly plenty of tzatziki sauce!!! (So many places short the best part). A couple of nice glasses of wine and our meal was complete. Highly recommend. Cheers!

Massive front garden across from the beach that serves delicious, local beer? I'd definitely say…read morethe good outweighed the bad at this establishment. Our food was hit or miss (Hit = pumpkin, pine nuts and orange salad. Miss = open chicken stack) and I loved that they served Emma & Toms alongside other fresh juices, smoothies, milkshakes and spiders; but the staff actually seemed annoyed to see us. I personally found it hilarious as it was edging on offensive when we asked for things like tomato sauce and, God forbid, if they had anything gluten free. It got to the point where the salty service seemed to be part of the schtick in the "where are the hidden cameras" way, but by then I'd had enough beer that I considered it endearing. Come for the beautiful location and tasty booze and you'll be set. Watch out for hidden cameras, I'm still convinced they might be there...
