After 20 years, 10 cats and thousands of dollars, I can no longer trust the clerical staff of…read morePrinceton Animal Hospital to act in the best interests of me and my cat companions. For years, we received excellent service and great kindness from the married veterinarians who operated the clinic. From providing me with excellent references when I wanted to adopt a cat to offering sensitive services in helping to see each kitty cross the "Rainbow Bridge," this was a highly empathetic and ethical veterinary practice. The doctors Miele retired and sold the practice, and I did not have any problems until recently when I took my 14-year-old Himalayan, Dexter, for a checkup. He is very healthy but has some tummy issues. There was no discussion of costs prior to the exam and I did not think that was odd because I always assumed they would be fair. I was asked if I wanted to include a recommended blood test - I said yes, not realizing it was about $350. I had planned on spending about $500 and was shocked when the bill was $1000! I explained that I thought that was high but I would pay $500 now and the balance the following Monday. This arrangement was not acceptable - The office manager, a woman with few people skills or empathy, insisted I pay the entire amount and made veiled threats that included stating that leaving without paying the full amount was equivalent to walking out of a store without paying. They treated me like a potential criminal instead of a long-term client and refused to send the blood test out until I paid the full amount. I am an 83-year-old senior citizen with a serious lung condition. I am on O2 24/7. I have lived in the same condo for 35 years and have run a successful business since moving here. I have no record of any kind beyond traffic tickets. Did this witch and the equally unhelpful women manning the desk at Princeton Animal Hospital think that I was going to toss all that, grab my cat and flee into the night between Thursday and Monday, just to avoid paying $500? Luckily, I had Dexter in his carrier and in my hand because I feel certain they would have held him hostage. I admit that my Irish temper flared but I have a lot to cope with being ill with a terminal disease and being threatened with more financial hassles and stress. So, I just left. I called the next day - the Manager was off and I was told that the blood test would not be sent out until I paid the $500. They could not guarantee the specimen would still be viable and I might have to bring Dexter in again for a new test! As if! I just cancelled the blood test and asked them to invoice me the balance which they did. I am going into this kind of detail to show how far Princeton Animal Hospital has fallen and to tell you that they may be within their rights. This is becoming a common practice in New York, according to a friend of mine, cat care expert and groomer, Anitra Frazier. My advice would be to discuss the costs in advance before even bringing your dog or cat to any vet. And to certainly avoid Princeton Animal Hospital. So, now I need to find a new vet for Dexter. (I should have noted earlier that my quarrel is not with Princton Animal Hospital's veterinarians but with its obnoxious clerical staff.) It is really sad to see how far this one excellent practice has fallen.

We took our beloved cat Chloe in for her yearly well checkup exam and haircut. The next thing we…read moreknow we're getting a call that she's dead. In trying to understand what went wrong, there are so many instances of negligence and decisions that don't make sense. We brought in a healthy, happy, 8-year young cat, for a HAIR CUT and she winds up dead. When Patti tried to explain what happened, she said that Chloe went into cardiac arrest during her haircut after being administered 2 shots of the sedative Alfaxan. She said halfway into her haircut she was flipped over and then her heart stopped beating. Then she tried to tell us about mucus coming out of a tube they tried to use to resuscitate her and claimed maybe she had pneumonia. None of this was making sense, because Chloe was perfectly happy and healthy at home. Then the truth came out that Chloe had NOT received any kind of exam prior to being administered the drugs and beginning the haircut. Her current state and health was not evaluated because the staff claimed she was too difficult to examine while awake. So they went ahead and administered drugs DIFFERENT from what Chloe has normally been given during this procedure, which she has received 2 times in the past and done fine on. Dr Freeman claimed that the drugs Chloe was given were less risky than the previous drugs she had been given, and that's why the decision was made to switch. But without examining her they have no way of knowing if there was something going on with Chloe that made it a risk to give her these drugs. Dr Patti also noted that we had DECLINED to pick up the prescribed pre-visit medication which would calm Chloe down prior to her visit. NO ONE in the office called us to tell us about any medication, and we certainly did not DECLINE anything. This is falsified in Chloe's paperwork. It was only after we questioned Dr. Freeman for several minutes that she explained that she gave Chloe way more drugs than dr. patti had previously stated. They are clearly not communicating with each other. Dr. Freeman said she gave her aflaxan 3 separate times. There is also an additional drug listed, buprenex, that dr freeman did not advise of when we were speaking with her. Then dr. freeman said she also gave her gas. She said Chloe was stressed out and growling and upset the entire time, but she continued to persist and give her more drugs. WHY would you not stop and just take a step back and call the owner and say you are unable to deal with the pet? We never gave any permission to administer anesthesia. I am also horrified that my cat was given ANYTHING without being examined first. Not only that, both dr patti and dr freeman admitted that Chloe was NOT HOOKED UP TO ANY IV OR ANY HEART RATE MONITOR DURING ANY OF THIS. Her vitals were not being checked or monitored, her well-being was completely disregarded. Dr freeman said that it was too difficult to get her hooked up to anything while she was not sedated. This goes against every proper procedure for sedating cats or putting them under anesthesia. She also said that they had a towel over chloe's head and face and had her biting a towel. This cat was under SO MUCH DISTRESS but they continued to take actions to make her even more upset. This was a voluntary procedure and I would NEVER EVER want it done with my cat under this much stress. None of this was ever communicated to us. Dr. Freeman admitted she was rushing and just trying to get Chloe's procedure over with. She said VERBATIM to the tech, "lets just start cutting to get this over with" immediately upon giving gas without having any indication of vitals. Then the vet tech noticed Chloe had urinated and she wasn't breathing. Her heart had stopped and she was dead. FOR A HAIRCUT. How at any point did NO ONE in the room stop and consider what they were doing????? Homecare Vet and Dr. Freeman killed my cat because of poor (or ZERO) communication, lack of procedure and process and unbelievably and inexplicably poor judgement. Our family has been destroyed over this.

A friend had recommended her name when I was struggling as a first time dog owner with a rescued adult dog who was showing human aggression and severe case of separation anxiety. When the shelter/rescue group/foster was giving me no support, Chantal was like a guardian angel. She spent endless amount of time with me on phone sharing her experience, knowledge and insight. Her calming and soothing voice was a blessing when I was feeling at my wit's end. She was available via texts even on weekends and late evenings, no matter how serious or silly my question was. She had given me vets and therapists names to consult and books to read all of which helped me moving from one day to another deciding on my next step. Unfortunately I had to end up surrendering the dog. But I wholeheartedly recommend Chantal to anyone. Her kindness and professionalism amazed me.
