One of Sydney's original co-working spaces, I cannae review the co-working part, largely as I've never co-worked from here, but I can review a couple of events I've been to. Namely, a James bond-themed Christmas party, complete with gambling tables and tuxes, which was about as awesome as it sounds (except for this one guy that shook my hand and palmed me his business card as he did so - it's a Christmas party, switch off, guy) and an excellent talk by Dana O'Neill on ways to target PR & media influencers. This is where it all happens for all things startup! You always get to meet interesting people doing cool stuff and starting new businesses. They normally have a pitch night happening on Friday nights (check their site for info). This is where founders pitch their business ideas and you get to ask them anything you like! It helps that they serve free beer (and sometimes pizza) after the sessions too. So drop by and be inspired. read more

I myself am not a start up - but I am a big fan of meet-up! A digital marketing meet-up popped up on my App regarding re-targeting and I was keen to go. I had no idea this was a co-working space, thought I was headed to a restaurant. Nothing fishy about it though! The talk was on an upper floor with space for I would say 150 chairs, a small stage up front and AV-IT hookup. A kitchen to the left and clean white walls. Grabbed a pic of the working space, super lively and young. Good talk and can't wait to come see other events. read more

Ah, Fishburners! My favourite frat hou...I mean, co-working space in Sydney. OK, so of all the seemingly endless co-working spaces I've had the pleasure of frequenting in this town, Fishburners is definitely the frat-house of them all- cheap, cheerful, and energetic, with what appears to be bottomless fridges of beer bottles. Loads of techies (mostly young males) seem to roam the halls and line the walls of every available space in the place. Busy every day and night of the week with events, classes, workshops, meetings and seminars, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more lively hub of all things tech startup in Sydney than FB. read more

When I returned from traveling in 2012 I had my sights set on doing online businesses with other people and decided I needed to check out Sydney's startup scene. The first event I went to was at Fishburners and after that I never really left. I worked nights and weekends here while I had my full time day job. I found the community really welcoming and there's a reason why they get the big speakers (look Google CFO Patrick Pichette, Gary Swart from oDesk, Robert Scoble, etc) and why Google has partnered with them. Now I'm in Silicon Valley having just been through 500 Startups and I'm in a startup with two co-founders and a key mentor I connected with at Fishburners. It's an amazing space with amazing, helpful people. It's ground zero for Sydney's (and possibly Australia's) startup community. It's 20% female and that number is growing. It hosts the best events and I believe it's also the oldest coworking space. I can honestly say were it not for the Fishburners community I wouldn't have made it to Silicon Valley or learned half as much as I have from other people there. read more
