Chris fit right in with our group of laid back new comers to salt water fishing…read more Our group of 6 was set to go out 10 miles offshore, but the weather was bad and Chris advised that we could go, but no one would have fun with that much pitching up and down. We still had a great time in Sarasota Bay. The group caught about 10 fish per person (catch and release.) I knocked my beer overboard and he had everyone pull their lines up, repositioned the boat, and we picked the can out of the water lest it harm or pollute. That was classy. His boat was decked out with good fish finding equipment. As soon as he saw we were out of a sweet spot, he repositioned the boat and put us back on the fish. We cruised up to Dolphins hunting. At his low prices, and with his boat (fast and decked out) you're insane not to try him. Admittedly, he doesn't have a cabin cruiser type boat, but the point is to fish the waters, not crunch Cheetos in the air conditioning. When you have to pee, just pee off the back (sorry girls - actually, Chris would probably let girls pee off the back of the boat.) We didn't keep any fish, but the processing station back at the dock looked clean and I think Chris would process it for you, or the bait shop would... unsure. Ignore all of the above, and just have fun talking with him...

While in retrospect I would have preferred paying a little bit extra for the deep sea fishing option, we all still had a blast fishing the the bay area and caught some fun fish in the process. The one caveat I'll mention is that Chris is a smoker. If cigarette smoke bothers you excessively, I'd say perhaps consider going elsewhere (and definitely asking the captain of any vessel you intend to charter if they're smokers, too). Also, you should probably pop a Dramamine before going out. Since its a smaller boat (27' or so), those waves can play a number on you. 12 hours later, and I still feel like I'm rocking back and forth...

It was easy to book online. Prompt follow up via email and text. We booked a 22 foot Pontoon; it had all the life jackets, even an infant one for our two year old. The pontoon was a newer one with plenty of space for everyone and all of our things. There was a table on the boat and everything else a pontoon has to offer (plenty of storage, comfy seats, shade from the sun, a ladder) We dealt with Jake Lasser, one of the managers, who was more than gracious with our group when we had a serious miscommunication. I would recommend Suntex to anyone looking to rent a pontoon boat in Siesta Key or Sarasota.

We received a confirmation the day before our charter from Captain Scott, who told us where to meet, what to bring, and who our Captain would be that day. Luckily the day of our charter it was beautiful. We were going out of the Coquina Beach boat ramp. There appeared to be plenty of parking, a dock, and some rather clean porta potties (hey when you gotta go, you gotta go). Captain Tony was our captain that day and he was ready to go at 8:30am on the button. We grabbed our things, he helped us in, and explained where we'd be going for inner coastal fishing. He explained where everything was on the boat. He also took the time to ask us our names and how old our little guy was. He pointed out that the best seats in the house were the two beanbag chairs at the front of the boat. Both me and my little guy scooped those up, leaving my husband to a regular bench seat (sorry, not sorry). We heated out into the open ocean and my kiddo was just smiling the entire time, enjoying the wind in his face and going fast. We drove for about 10 minutes and Captain Tony landed on a spot. He explained to us how to properly hold the fishing pole, when to cast, how to stop the line, and when to reel the line in. He wanted our little guy to catch the first fish, and no sooner did our kiddo put his pole in the water he caught a fish. He reeled it in and caught a leopard looking grouper (the first fish of the day.....they weren't in season so we got a pic of him with his fish and then set the fish free). My kiddo did it again and again.....caught fish after fish! He even caught a few snappers that were in season that Captain Tony filleted, so we could take them home and cook. Captain Tony showed me and my husband how to fish, my first attempt and I caught a grouper, then another grouper, and another, and a few snappers. We also caught ourselves a black-tailed shark. Captain Tony put him on the boat, and we each got to hold the shark. Not only was he heavy, he had roughest skin (ever heard of lotion?). Captain Tony baited all our lines for us, he was helpful, he really tended to all of us and was just a pleasure to be around. After about 3 hours of fishing, we went to sandbar for the 4th hour, where Capt. Tony could fillet our fishes, and we could swim and explore the island. It was relaxing. This was a really great experience, super kid friendly, and made my kiddo a fishing fanatic! This was a great experience!
