The trail serves as the Northern trailhead for the river trail system and is absolutely gorgeous. The walk is mostly shaded by trees and features great scenery of the water. We spotted a variety of creatures which made the walk a bit more fun. The entire trail is paved and is wheelchair accessible making it a great option for anyone who wants to check it out. Despite the gorgeous scenery this trail offers it has limited visibility due to the curves and foliage that is present. At some points during it you may not be able to see who is around the corner or behind you on the trail, if that is important to you, you may want to check out the trail with a trail buddy rather than going alone. Overall, this is a lovely spot if you're looking for a paved trail that offers some scenic views. This park also offers fishing spots and you can bike, run or walk the trail making it a great option for a variety of activities.

We were skipping rocks on the water and watching the geese lift off into the stratosphere! The best thing of all is that we got to hang out as a family. I know alot of kids these days get stuck on the screens so it was nice to see mine throw rocks and get dirty! Alot of nice people on the trail even spotted some folks fishing i hope the guy caught something. All in all it was a great little workout. Also something truly amazing was the little free library that they had posted at the beginning of the trail! Check it out!!

Excellent for an easy walk, the paved path stretches 1.5 miles, past some nice (and admittedly less than nice, but ostensibly safe) landscapes and locations. Bicycle friendly, plenty of space on the path for everyone.

It's a fantastic addition to Hopewell, featuring a lovely park for kids and an eco-conscious redirected rainwater flower bed that serves as home for bees and blooms with color in the spring/summer. To your left, the path is covered in Kudzu vines, maintained by Hopewell Parks and Rec, creating a gorgeous backdrop for selfies or group photos. On your right, the scenic Appomattox River provides a lovely view of the water. Whether you're looking to get some exercise, have a picnic, practice mindfulness, or enjoy one of the many events, like the spectacular fireworks in July. This spot is a real "walk" in the park!

My best friend and I went to Pocahontas State Park a few weekends ago to do the Beaver Lake trail. This park is pretty big and they offer a variety of trails to explore. I love that you are able to walk, fish, bike, and even camp here. I just learned that if you are an REI member, you can take your receipt and use it as a payment to enter this park! It's usually $7 to enter with a car, but it was nice to be able to enter with a REI receipt. I've come twice this year and while the trees are not green yet, it's still a lovely park to explore. It's very family-friendly. There is a playground in the space. They also seem to have pools here. You can use All Trails to find a trail you want or ask the park ranger for recs on the map. They also have an information center and museum. If you live in the RVA area, I recommend checking out this park at least once.

Pocahontas State Park offers over 90 miles of trails, a large lake system, and a well-maintained…read morecampground. Time your hike for lunch at Swift Creek Reservoir. You might spot hawks, eagles, or herons. In spring, the path leaving the reservoir is often covered in tiny frogs. They have no self-preservation so watch your step. The park hosts concerts at its amphitheater, including touring acts like Dark Star Orchestra. Snakes are common, especially near water. They're native, and you're trespassing so leave them be. Or text a picture to the VA Snake Hotline (804) 617-7086 to confirm that you don't need to freak out. As for the paw prints in the mud: I've seen them. They look like mountain lion tracks. Officially extinct in Virginia, but the prints say otherwise. Leave no trash. Pack out everything. This place is awesome/wonderful/beautiful!!! Don't mess it up.

If (like me) you are in search of a peaceful getaway with soft surfaces that are easy to navigate then this is a great option. While yes- the park backs up to a coal-powered electrical plant (the largest in the Dominion system) after the first mile or so on the trail you don't see it. Most of the 4 Mile trail offers views out to the tidal lagoon or James River. There are some trail spurs that also offer observation decks out to the water. Parking is shared with the Henricus Historcial Park as are indoor restrooms, which were clean and spacious. About 10 min off I-95 for those traveling through- it's worth the stop to break up a trip.

We decided to take the scanoe (yes, a scanoe, not a canoe. it's a canoe with a square back) out last weekend and the bf's destination of choice was Deep Bottom Park. It's not the most scenic place in the world, but it fulfilled its purpose for us. There were a few picnic tables, but I'd really only go back to use the boat ramp again. The bathrooms are really nice, though. I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness- clearly someone's on top of the upkeep and it shows. A number of other boats were out on the water while we were there, along with at least one jetskier. We also saw a few people fishing off of the docks, so it seems like this boat launch is probably a fairly popular spot. If you're looking for a place semi-close to downtown, with relatively calm water and a decent boat launch, this park is worth a shot.

I attended on the sweltering hot Saturday, and I would've loved more shade as I almost passed out around midday. The park itself is expansive with plenty of areas for parking. It seemed to be well-kept and had on-site facilities. I could see why this would be a good event venue. Just wish we could control the weather! I'd go back for future events.
