When we visited this place recently, I was initially a bit worried. A few tables occupied by older groups may give you the impression of a place past its prime. How wrong one can be! This place turned out fantastic, from the service, to food, and ambiance.
After taking our time ordering a bottle of wine (in which we were offered a small taste of the two wines we could not decide between) we settled on a nice fruity but dry Riesling, and then ordered the local spanner crab & parmesan pinkelets ($19.9) as a starter to share. The pinkelets receive excellent reviews on other websites and we agree; very good texture and delightful taste. Our table partners ordered the the smoked petuna ocean trout (included in pic), which also was excellent.
For our mains we had the BBQ seafood platter (including scallops, moreton bay bug, salmon, and prawn, a.o.) and the macadamia crusted coral coast barramundi with pumpkin, cashew and feta. Both were excellent but of course totally different. Barra had my preference although some might find the dish a bit sweet. For desert we had coffees (which in itself were fantastic) and shared a sticky date pudding, which was amazing. Sweet, but not too sweet. Right consistency and moistness, and really well paired with the sauce and ice cream.
The service was happy(!), friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was relaxed. Really a very good place. We spent $140 for two, which included 1/2 of a bottle of wine. Good value considering the overall experience. read more
