Found this fish market after my weekly food shopping across the street at SuperFresh. Ordered the broil salmon with the sides of rice and salad. 10 minutes later, my order was ready, hot and delicious. Definitely fit within my dietary goals. The place also has fresh to purchase if you want to take it home and prepare it the way you want. The store front has tables if you want to eat it right then and there. I chose to take it home. Definitely if you want a prepared fish dinner for a good price. Yep. Get it here. read more

This is one of those great neighborhood gems that you discover by chance, or by word of mouth. Tucked into 42nd street, between Greenpoint ave and 48th ave in Sunnyside, Queens, this fresh seafood store doubles as an unexpectedly delicious kitchen, that puts out some seriously tasty, seasoned to perfection and cooked to preference, broiled or fried fish filets and fish steaks. Best for take-out or delivery, though dine-in option is available, if you don't mind the smell of fresh seafood on display for sale, steps away. The atmosphere is friendly and ok for a quick bite, but it's not exactly inviting as it mainly functions as a fresh fish store and quick kitchen, but there are casual outdoor seating options in the warmer months. No wait service, it's all casual and self serve. The entrées are served with a side of steamed yellow rice, or French fries, fresh lemon and a fresh lettuce, tomato, and cucumber salad. A delicious choice for dinner on any given night cooked to perfection . 1/2 pound filets / steaks (around $10-$15) or 1 pound filets / steaks (around $20-$25). Strongly recommend trying some sides too, the shrimp ceviche is really good, so are the fried clams, fried scallops, and fried or broiled shrimp. The people working there have been there for decades and are always friendly and polite. Food is prepped quickly, prep times are not long. read more

I do not know how I didn't know about this place sooner. I did an order for pick up and I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the salmon with rice and a small salad. It only cost 12.50 and filled me up. The salmon was cooked to perfection. The rice was cooked well and the sald protion was very tiny (which I liked). I do appreciate that the salmon had flavor. Usually salmon I get taste like rubber or lacks flavor not this place. But you have the option of fried salmon or broiled. Broiled is the way to go if you're trying to be healthier and not have your acid reflux attacking you later. As a side I also had mozzarella sticks that were lightly breaded. It was only $4 for 6 of them. A lot of places don't have them that low. The sauce for them tasted good as well. I'm glad the breading didn't fall off as I ate them. The customer service was awesome as well. Great job guys. I will definitely be a repeat customer. read more

Avoid the scallops at Fish House, caveat emptor. Fish goo as a substitute for scallops is bad for business.

This place has imitation sea food especially the scallops I would not recommend they should close down for false foods.

Imitation seafood especially the scallops. I couldn't wait to finally go to this place and I wasn't going to post this but after seeing the other reviews I said they need to be stopped because what else are they doing read more

I ordered the whiting and shrimp and chips combo! REALLY GOOD. The whiting was MEATY ! Fresh, not a fishy taste. The shrimp were ok, I can tell they were frozen because of texture the taste was good too. The French fries were good and crispy. I only have 4 stars because they don't give you enough condiments. They gave me only two tartar sauces for TWO ORDERS. And 3 packets of ketchup. Chile what's that? But overall decent. I recommend. read more

If you are craving fish for lunch at an affordable price range this is the place to come. If you pick your fish from the fresh fish side I am sure you will be getting a fantastic meal. If you order the fish from behind the counter, I have a hunch you're probably getting frozen food that is fried. I mean with 7 shrimp and 7 scallops and 2 whitings all for 10 dollars plus fries you have to know you are not getting wild fish. So that was my meal, I was intrigued by the price. Sadly I did not take a picture of my food but it was all fried. The shrimp looked so big but when I peeled off the crispy crust it was a very small piece of shrimp, not even half a shrimp or a whole shrimp. The scallops were weird. I ate one and discarded the rest. They were like soft pillows. The white fish was pretty tasty. If I came back here I would pick my fresh fish and have them cook that or if I was craving fish and on a low budget I would just stick to the whiting or salmon. Skinny fries and a salad come with the meal. Mera's Tip: Go fresh read more

When it comes to active seafood markets, none come more fried up than the Fish House in Sunnyside. Located along a busier stretch of Greenpoint Ave, this easy to miss establishment is generally one of the least popular spots in the hood. This isn't because it's unbearable by any means, but it's true when I say the Fish House is still considered fairly unknown. It probably doesn't help their sign / awning is riddled with holes, which i really hope is by design. It should also be noted this isn't a restaurant either. It's strictly take out or delivery and credit cards are accepted. I came here one day after just going up and down Greenpoint and stumbled across what I thought was going to be a divey Seafood joint. Instead, it was a divey seafood market. Small and fishy, random sea creatures from lobster to trout sat on top beds of ice at fairly cheap prices. "Fresh!!!" responded the enthusiastic Korean owners upon seeing me peruse the aisle. They then handed me a takeout menu and told me they'll cook whatever they have here and deliver i for a fee. I opted for something simple and cheap: a fired whiting sandwich. I left and continued to stroll on the street while munching on sandwich and realized it was super tasty. The fried bits added some nice texture, despite not holding together very well and flakes of fish were lost in the process. There was a hint of tarter caked in the sandwich and the bread itself was nothing remarkable. For $3, this sandwich was solid. I've ordered delivery several times now and have been impressed with their fried shrimp and broiled salmon. The shrimp was fried well, yet moist and juicy on the inside and the salmon was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and pseudo-buttery. I am a little disappointed they don't offer many sides beyond jo-jos aka potato wedges and the fact they use fake (fried) crab legs for takeout. Not every fish is able to be prepped either, so the menu is somewhat limited to certain kinds of (presumably inexpensive quality) seafood. Outside of Latin and Eastern European eateries, there aren't too many places that offer the array of seafood like the Fish House. At reasonable pricing with decent delivery, it's exactly the kind of place a seafood lover on a budget can appreciate. read more

There is really one word that I can say that describes the seafood.... "Delicious"! I have walked by this place many times but never really went in to order anything. Tonight, I was looking for a place to pick up dinner to take home. I decided to finally give this place a try and I am so glad that I did. I ordered their broiled salmon steak (very generous size) with yellow rice (for an extra $2.00), plus small salad. I also ordered a side of scallops, and onion rings (yes I was very hungry.) My salmon was cooked perfectly. I asked the woman to cook my salmon steak medium rare so that way by the time I get my salmon home it would not be over cooked. Their scallops were ok. My father got their fried whole porgy, it had like a corn meal coating and it was a large fish which was really tasty, plus he ate it faster than I could snap a shot. Finally, a seafood place in the neighborhood. It's not a restaurant, but its a clean fish market with a cooking station on the other side of the store. You can pick off their set menu or purchase fresh fish which is not on their menu and have them cook it for you. If you are in a rush and don't want to wait you should plan to order a head of time to go pick up or for delivery. They can get pretty busy very quickly. read more

Friday night after spending the evening at my Girls school painting, we decided to get some fried fish takeout. I've had fish on my mind but usually disappointed in places because either the fish isn't fresh or batter isn't to my liking. I had fried cod, rice and salad. My hubby got perogies (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) and crab cakes. My cod was delicious. read more

They should call this place the imitation fish house. Tried this place during a recent visit to New York and I knew something was suspect with the food, it didn't taste like fish at all! Low and behold Inside Edition just did an investigation on them and they admitted most of their "fish" is imitation fish. What a scam! The hell kind of a "fish" house is that? Avoid this place like the plague!! read more

You get what you pay for. Affordable prices for decent food. Our family order 12 oysters, 1 catfish plate, 1 tilapia plate, 1 order of crab cakes, 1 salmon sandwich, and 2 orders of fried shrimp. All of that for 74 dollars! Not bad at all. The crab cakes were just okay in my opinion. Definitely wouldn't order again. Everything else was delicious. The batter was crispy and not greasy at all. Definitely would go back! read more

Fresh seafood for a good price; you can't ask for anything more. You don't come to this place for decor or atmosphere. It's a simple fish market with a couple of tables outside, a little off the beaten path, but well worth the effort. The broiled cod was delicious, the calamari pretty good and they have Jarritos, my favorite Mexican soda. Only caveat was that the hush puppies were really corn nuggets; but, they were tasty. read more

If you like fish or seafood, do yourself a favor and come here. The food is dirt cheap, fresh, never frozen, and in huge portions. This a mom and pop shop fish market that also cooks everything they have, and offer a full menu of meals. There is a BIG variety of fish and seafood including scallops, shrimp, crab sticks, amd calamari If you want to be healthy, you can even get anything off the menu broiled, but their specialty is breading and deep frying everything. 90% of the menu is under 10 bucks, and you will NOT leave here hungry. Load up on tartar sauce and hot sauce and eat up, even the biggest appetites are going to get full. Credit cart minimum is $10, so just order 2-3 things on the menu and swipe. read more

Guy at front is rude. Went in for soup at lunchtime 1 PM. It wasn't ready. I decided to inquire about some other menu items while I waited the 10 minutes for my soup which he said would be ready by then.. Placed an order for some shrimp and crab cakes. Didn't make me feel comfortable to want to order. I had a few questions about side orders and he said "yea yea you want the combo or not". I used to go to this place often. Traveled from Maspeth to get some fish. Over fried shrimp. Crabcakes cold in middle. Coleslaw was gross. I will not be returning. I suggest you don't either. To top it all off he never gave me my soup. When I finished paying I noticed there was still no soup in my bag. I said no soup? Response was NO its still not ready. Wasted half my lunch break for a soup I never received. read more

First thing I have to complain about is about their breaded shrimp. Their order is like what? 6 or 7 bucks for 10? I don't remember now. Let's pretend it's 7 bucks for 10 breaded shrimp. You'd assume you get 10 whole shrimp, but nope, nope, nope. I took a picture to share here because it's ridiculous. THEY CUT THE SHRIMP IN 3 PIECES. That's right, they slice the shrimp. They should call it an order of sliced shrimp. It's a lot of deep fried bread crumbs, making the shrimp look big, but once you remove the breadcrumbs, you see how tiny the slices of shrimp are. I've been a fan of this restaurant for a while. I've enjoyed their food and have recommended it to many people. I'm not sure why it's changing for the worst. The costumer service is pretty bad now. In fact, the last time I was there about 3 days ago, I walk in to see a couple being upset because they were being overcharged. They ran out of rice and asked if I wanted fries instead, I said yes. When the time came to pay, I noticed I was being overcharged too. The reason? They didn't mention the fries weren't a replacement, they were charging them as a side order. Now I understand why that couple was upset. A smaller complaint... gave them a last chance. I stopped by on my way home and ordered something to go. The guy though I was going to eat there and brings me a bottle of the dressing along with some napkins. I tell him it's to go, he takes everything back. Once I get my order, I see there's no dressing for the salad. I tell him, he hands me bunch of packets of Italian dressing, tartar sauce, plus 2 whole packet of ketchup but not their pink sauce. I asked for more ketchup and he gave me ONE whole packet more. I told him he didn't give me any of the pink dressing they make, he said it's there. I unpack the bag and show him. He wants to sell me the dressing... I said "listen, you just put the bottle on the table. Let me just serve the dressing on the salad now then." He sighs, gives me a tiny cup of dressing. Finally, he gives me what's supposed to come with the salad. It's a shame to see them get this bad. I genuinely liked this place, and I hope this doesn't ruin their business because it would suck to see them close. So, dear people who work there, if you read this... don't be so stingy, don't be rude and think of this... if you drive people away, who's going to buy your food? read more

This is one of my go-to places. I've ordered from here dozens of times. I will continue to order from here. But the staff is rude, unfriendly and seems half annoyed every time I order. But the seafood is really good. We've ordered many different meals of fish, shrimp, calamari, scallops, fries, tots, rice, salad. The fried shrimp is always perfectly crispy, good size and the cocktail sauce in a cup is my favorite. It's the perfect amount of sweet. Scallops, fish, calamari, fries, tots, all good. The tarter sauce in the cup is ok. Extra credit for having tots! Prices are good and serving size is good as well. Here's what needs improvement and the reason for only 3 stars for a place I order from once every other week. First- be nice to your customers. It would be really great for me to feel like my business is valued and appreciated. Sometimes I don't order because I don't want to deal with the attitude. Or I order on seamless to avoid talking to you, which I feel guilty for because they keep way too much of the money. Next- your fish sandwich deserves a roll- white bread is gross and cheap and the sandwich will be 100times better with a roll. Next- you provide a ton of packet condiments and they go in the garbage every time. Salad dressing, tarter sauce, hot sauce, and ketchup. The ketchup is the only one we eat. We've asked for them to be left out repeatedly and our instructions have never been followed. What a waste of money and bad for the environment. Lastly- the coleslaw is ruined every time you put it in the container with super hot seafood and potatoes. There must be a better way. read more

After walking around the neighborhood trying to find a new place to eat, I came across the FISH HOUSE. I walked in right before closing which I was not aware of at the time, however the FRIENDLY woman did not kick me out and instead asked me to order. I ordered the fried shrimp and imitation crab dish. They were almost out of rice so the woman supplemented it with onion rings which I was fine with. + The woman SMILED at me (in New York? YES) after I came in a few minutes before closing. + Prices are reasonable and no tip needed. - Food was dry and tasted a day old (my fault for coming in too late) - Food is TO-GO only. No seating area. Honestly I'm going back again because the woman was SO NICE and SMILED. read more

Went in for takeout got the whole fried porgy and the 10 large shrimp combo! The whole fried shrimps were grabbed from their fresh fish market then breaded and fried to perfection I had to eat one when I got to my car. Both the porgy and shrimp came with rice lemon and salad. I asked for cocktail sauce. Porgy was ok lacked flavor. I really love their yellow sticky rice it's my guilty pleasure. Would def recommend also they have lunch specials! Broiled/steamed whole fish is the way to go! I've tried salmon, porgy, whiting, cod etc. Best part is it's so healthy! There is no guilt having seasoned steamed fish with salad and a little rice! I've been wanting to try this place for months now and finally did a few days ago. I got the combo - 2 whiting filet, shrimp & scallops ($9) and you get a side of your choice. I got the yellow rice. The scallops were my favorite part - although they had zero flavor, they were cooked well. The shrimp had a ton of breading and it was too overwhelming. The whiting filets seemed either overcooked or stale. I doused everything in tartar sauce to give it some flavor so that can't be healthy.. The rice has absolutely NO flavor. Less flavor than white rice. The little mini-salad was just some lettuce, which was fine. I liked that they included a little salad to break up the other textures & add some freshness. I wound up unfortunately throwing most of the food out. Delivery was pretty fast, but I definitely would not order here again. read more

This modest seafood store and mini fast seafood shack lacks atmosphere and has barely any seating, with four chairs and two small tables. But is you are in the nabe and want fresh cheap seafood, then Fish House is worth a stop. By no means gourmet fried fare, Fish House serves up thickly crusted and crunchy battered seafood. I had the fried shrimp platter, 10 medium shrimp served on either rice, or with onion rings or fries, along with a small salad. I loved fried seafood but am not a fan of the coating; sis wonders why I order fried food in the first place. It's the way a good frying seals in the sweetness of the seafood, of course! Fish House's coating was too heavy for my tastes so I peeled off the crust to feast on the sweet and succulent shrimp underneath. The platter comes with a tiny iceberg salad, that surprisingly had many pieces of tomatoes and cucumbers. Sneaking a peak at my very close neighbors, I saw that the two men occupying the sole other table when I went in were smarter with their calories, and chose broiled fish that came seasoned and encased in their tin foil tents. Their fish looked and smelled good, with the juices of the fish steaming the fish. They seemed as happy as I was, chowing down. Since Fish House sells the seafood right there, they have a pretty good selection of fried and broiled seafood, with and without sides. Service was warm. I would definitely come back to try the broiled fish. Note that this is more a takeout joint. Coming with a group larger than four will ensure lap seating for some. read more

Fish House is half takeout restaurant and half fish market. There are 3 small tables to dine in and while other people noted that it smells like a fish market I didn't think it was that bad; the smell was barely perceptible and the whole shop was clean. I had the fried scallops and shrimp combo which came with 7 pieces of each along with a small salad and choice of rice or fries all for $7. The food was decent tasting, there isn't much flavor in the breading, but at $7 that's a great deal for seafood. The grilled and broiled options might be tastier. I found the employees to be very friendly and sweet. read more

I like this place. It's convenient and you can get a quick grilled meal with rice and salad. I've ordered from here a couple of times now - probably better to take out then eat in. This is a family owned fish spot. Found them on yelp and glad we gave them a try. Friday early evening we decided to eat in. They weren't very busy but i did notice they had a whole bunch of seamless orders. We ordered a #6 2 pieces of whiting fish w/ 6 shrimp salad & onion rings and #12 flounder w/ 6 shrimp salad & Jo Jo seasoned fries(which were more like wedges). We also ordered a side of calamari and a catfish fillet which came with yellow rice and salad. The only down side is the whiting had bones. Next time i'll get the flounder. Oh and the shrimp were breaded just right...you can see and taste the shrimp itself. The place does smell fishy but they do sell fresh fish on one side. Everything was made to order meaning nothing was sitting in the oil waiting for a customer. Orders can be fried or broiled. Our fish was good hot, fresh flaky with flavor and everything down to the rice was good. Oh and all the food was CHEAP! We enjoyed all of it and will be coming back. We took some food to our friends and they will be visiting this place also. Its always good to support a family operated spot were you can clearly see the family working together and this is definitely a place like that. read more
