Fish Hawk Acres is a friendly, airy, pleasant place to have lunch or dinner. I had the chicken gyro. It was okay. It was not a gyro, but rather, slices of chicken and some vegetables on top of a pita. It was average, nothing special. But I am writing this review mostly to say that if you order this, don't expect a gyro (as in meat slow-cooked on a spit). My wife had a green tomato BLT sandwich, and that too was okay. The green tomato was cold, although she happily reports that the bacon was well-prepared. What WAS good, however, was the January Blueberry Tahini Detox Smoothie. This had blueberries, banana, spinach, tahini, chia seeds, vanilla, and cardamom. I opted for the oat milk, and it was quite good. Stopped in twice this visit and grabbed a couple sandwiches, some deli cold cuts, some pepperoni rolls, and a strawberry pie (inasmuch as it was WV Strawberry Festival week). This is about the closest thing to a gourmet food store in the area and, although it's a tad pricey, it still has some of the best products and fixings in Buckhannon...and by far the best Ruben sandwich l have ever tasted. read more

We stopped there yesterday for lunch. My husband had the Reuben and I got the Spinach & Artichoke Sandwich. My sandwich was amazing! These guys showed up late to our venue and then refused to do what we had contracted to do ie cook and serve appetisers, serve water at guests tables and clean tables when done. We were at a remote location with 70 guests. The catering rep had made a test run to our location to know exactly where we were and how to set up. When I called to complain they said that person that we talked to was no longer with them and they refused to acknowledge that she made arrangements with us. They charged for everything up front and even included a large tip and catering fee. We have no recourse. So BEWARE! Food delivery service not a caterer. And late on top of everything. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Unfortunately, my experience with Fish Hawk Acres was a disaster. Last year after booking this "catering" company for my wedding, my then fiancé and I were so excited to have found such a lovely place for our big day. At the time, their food was delicious and we were sold by Sara's charm and excitement that they would do anything to make our special day perfect. Fast forward to a year later, April 2023... Sara made a visit to our venue to scope out the land and our kitchen. At this meeting, she informed us that she had recently booked a "girl's trip" and would no longer be able to work our wedding - but rest assured she'd make sure we would be in good hands. Our July 22, 2023 wedding finally roles around and the first thing that goes wrong is that Fish Hawk was late... after one of my bridesmaids called the store, the associate on the phone was not only rude, but also refused to give us any information about where they were or when they left the restaurant. Upon their late arrival, they did not help serve our appetizers (granted, we had an "outsider vendor" - AKA my mom - making the apps, they just had to heat and serve), despite in our initial meeting Sara claimed that they could do that. It was something that meant a lot to my family to have my mom make the appetizers and this was a nonnegotiable for us - we would have never even booked this place if we knew they wouldn't serve our apps. During dinner, the so called servers they had on site did not fill waters or even clear our guests plates, despite this also being something we asked Sara about and were told that they would do. The servers also put our desserts out directly following dinner.... which pissed me off because any professional wedding "caterer" knows that dessert at weddings do not come until a little bit later such as after the cake cutting. Lastly, we ordered the restaurants $70 Jack Daniels cake that was supposed to be for our groomsmen while getting ready - however because they were so late to our event, it ended up being put out for dessert. The servers, on multiple occasions, made comments such as "we don't do that [in regards to doing server duties]" or "it's my first day on the job," which is also highly unprofessional. After many failed attempts to contact and rectify the situation somehow with FHA through email and phone, my MIL finally got ahold of Dale, the owner who stated that Sara no longer works for the company....Well, Dale, my question to you is: why not try to do right by a customer FOR THEIR WEDDING?? If an associate is no longer with the company, then I wish you would have had the respect for us and our wedding by calling us and having a meeting with us to explain the situation and clarify what it is you guys will actually do there and give us the opportunity to decide if we still wanted your services. Instead, you caused me and my husband/wedding party/parents stress on MY big day because of this negligence. You told my MIL that we had "unrealistic expectations," with you guys despite asking very thorough questions with Sara and even doing a site visit with us. We paid you guys a 20% catering fee of our total bill, just to be made fools. The owner did not even once try to apologize to me, which is just so sad and distasteful. :( We were originally soo happy to have you guys and boasted about yall to all of our other vendors before the big day but you were just there to collect a check which was made very clear to us after the fact. The food that night was fine at best (maybe they even hired a new chef now too that isn't as good as the one we had during our initial tasting but who knows), but with the stress and disrespect we experienced from this company, I will NEVER be recommending this place or giving them my business ever again. If you're looking to have a catered event, I highly recommend staying the hell away from this place and going with Kickin Chicken instead - they catered our rehearsal dinner the night before and not only was the food great, they didn't try to steal our money and gaslight us into thinking we were unreasonable for any of our requests such as being on time, clearing plates, or filling waters - and they even let us customize our own menu! :) read more

A great local addition to the Buckhannon food scene. You know right away that this place cares because they discuss the menu and their ingredients with customers. They have a range of baked goods plus daily lunch/sandwich specials. I happened in here because it was the first place promising strawberries at the festival that wasn't a schlocky food truck. Sheet perusing the range of available strawberry options I went with an oatmeal square, mousse tart, and the classic chocolate covered. They also have a strawberry soup calling my name... But before dessert, I need real food! The Appalachian ramp burger had me covered. New to WV? If it's springtime, eat ramps. They take the place of onions and lend that caramelized, slightly tart flavor to the burger. The bun was crispy, the bacon was plentiful (and crispy), and every flavor had the right balance. It came out medium rare as requested. Excellent. Okay, on to dessert. I was thirsty, so I started with the strawberry soup. Yup, that's what it is, if you can call a dessert custard "soup". You can eat it with a spoon. It's gorgeous all the way down. The strawberry mousse is similar, but the tart includes sliced strawberries. Again, gorgeous. You get the idea. The desserts are every bit as good as the entree. If there's one drawback, it's slightly high prices, but for top food quality in the middle of the mountains, I'll pay a little extra and so should you. I hope to be back! read more

We tried this and had a request of gluten free pasta which they accommodated. The gluten free crab pasta was absolutely incredible. My wife has been wanting some great Alfredo for a long time and hadn't been able to have it. This was an absolute treat that we will come back for. I came into town to go to an old faithful but I did a quick Yelp search first just to see if anything peaked my interest and this little place popped up. It's right up my alley. Dale Hawkins catered our sons rehearsal dinner at Morning Glory Inn, Pittsburgh, PA where they cater often. The Inn is a garden patio and we wanted a casual-quality food service. Working with Debbie, they helped us create an appetizer, three cuisine food and dessert bars. Dale himself, with wonderful service staff served the food bars. Food was plentiful and FANTASTIC! Our guests were very pleased and complimentary. Dale was incredibly attentive to please my wife and I, as well everyone. They even provider the bartender. I went to this location after literally going to every other restaurant in the area, but did not have the time to wait 30mins. I ordered the TWELVE dollar grilled cheese sandwich for my 2 small boys. I assumed at TWELVE dollars this sandwich was going to be JAM UP and probably enough for me to get a bite or two as well. I do not recall ever seeing a more pathetic grilled cheese in my life, not even when I was a new cook. My 3 & 6 year old will eat ANYTHING, and they took one bite and handed it back to me, which in our house, is literally saying, "I would rather starve until dinner than eat that". So I take a bit of one of the halves because I'm now concerned about spoilage. I could have been eating a piece of cardboard, I'd have never known the difference. Cardboard might actually have been better how can something that should have been pan fried in butter be so flavorless?? And Swiss cheese I am guessing was used? Who would use such a flavorless piece of cheese for a grilled cheese sandwich? Swiss has its place. Not in a grilled cheese. I didn't think this was something that a restaurant really needed to be schooled on ‍ And it wasn't even fully melted! One side of the sandwich bread kept falling off because it wasn't melted together! I realized not too long after moving to WV a few years ago that y'all like your food as bland as heck, but this place? It is the bland of bland. So if you like spending more than an hour of your work (for some of us) on bland crap you can't taste, this is the place for you Now officially the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Oh, and the help was just there. This is probably my favorite place in town. The menu isn't overwhelmingly large but has enough to make anyone happy with their selection. My wife has a gluten free dietary restriction, and they had no problem ensuring that she could enjoy her meal too. The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious. If you're in Buckhannon, do yourself a favor and eat here. One more thing to note: You can find a lot of places to eat at. Fish Hawk is unique to our small town and is almost an adventure to enter. Not only is it a restaurant and bakery, but they also have coolers with market items, bagged chips, sometimes nuts, trail mix or candy, a variety of beverages and specials daily. Seating is limited to be prepared to share a table or take your food to go during peak meal times. My favorite part is that they almost always have some sort of gluten free option, including sweet treats! The worst thing about this place is they are closed on Sunday! read more
