Doctors. They're not as sexy as a great cocktail or decadent restaurant indulgence, but as sure as…read moredeath and taxes, chances are you'll need to call upon the services of a GP at some point. And when that point comes you want them to be great. I feel pretty confident I've found that in the team at Market Street Medical. I mean, when was the last time your doctor called you to say your doctor was running late to save you sitting in the waiting room for 30-40mins? Sure, it throws your day out but at least you can do something else in those 30-40mins rather than sit captive reading Country Style or House & Garden. I waited several months to see Dr Maintsone (she's that much of a rockstar she has a hefty waiting list) after recommendation from a friend who, with similar plights to my own, sung her praises. After the first visit with Dr Mainstone I understood why. She's considerate, understanding and sees issues as pieces of a greater puzzle. I feel she's genuinely interested in the health of her patients and I appreciate her commitment to looking at the bigger picture rather than always reaching for a quick fix. It is because of Dr Mainstone I was able, towards the end of 2013, gain some closure and context around a few medical issues and finally not feel like I was the crazy one for talking of such symptoms. They are more expensive than other GPs I've visited and I personally am okay with this for the level of treatment and attention I receive. They process your Medicare claim online in the practice and you'll be amazed how fast that money is back in your piggy bank.

I have to agree with Lani, Market Street Medical is fantastic. I've been seeing Dr Mainstone and…read morecan't speak highly enough of her. It's such a nice change to be treated with respect and care.

I see the complaints about waiting. There aren't enough magazines in the waiting room. Staff told me to come in and I'll be looked after. Dr Thet Aung refused to even read a letter from the hospital I had with me. Refused to help even after I booked replacement cover for work. Wouldn't read the letter from my OT. The receptionist was the one who told me he could assist with what I needed. When I questioned her why I was told to come then refused treatment, she was defensive and petulant. Dismissive, rude, the place is disgusting. Unclean. Their pathology chair was sticky last time I went! Steer clear and leave these guys to stress over manipulating the downtrodden who they so obviously take advantage of. Should be shut down. He literally asked me to go back to the emergency ward... For not an emergency.. In writing it was the hospital asking me to see him to not to clog up emergency! [Edit] and now I find similar reviews of Dr Thet Aung.... Why act like some sort of tough guy as a Dr???. Far from tough... Pathetic. An unfortunate exercise of obfuscation and arrogance. A poster child for why people don't visit doctors when they need to

I'm fairly sure the name Dr Bingham becomes known by each and every St Lucia college resident…read moreduring their time on campus. He is the go-to man for medical certificates, drunken injuries and scripts for contraception. Whilst there are six other doctors in his practice, none of them seemed to have gained the notoriety that Bingham has, perhaps because he's an old collegiate himself, knows the ways of college life and loves to have a chat about it. Dr Bingham was my doctor until one day I couldn't get in to see him and went to see Dr Dutney instead. I've been with her ever since, partly because I prefer to have a female doctor, but also because she always remembers me, never seems in a hurry and is happy to answer any questions. Despite having moved to the other side of town, I'll keep going back to the St Lucia Family Practice and to Dr Dutney, as the treatment and service is so personalised.

My GP, Dr Murray Bingham, is fantastic - he is considerate, compassionate and boasts a wealth of knowledge - treating everything from a broken foot (if he ever reads this - sorry I never wore the space boot!) to the flu. He often has university medical students training alongside him, who he encourages to come up with a diagnosis. My neighbour, who generally drives me there in time of need, has actually bumped into him during his break, shared a coffee and proceeded to ask how my foot was healing. It's comforting to know that your doctor remembers who you are and genuinely cares for your health and well-being! Important to note: bulk-billing is available.

My doctor here is Dr Ken Koh and he's been amazing. Cannot tell you how many doctors I went to…read morebefore I found one that I felt confident in and felt reliable in seeing about health issues or prescription refills. I once went to a doctor that prescribed me anti-histamines when I had pneumonia. As a result I got asthma, and I've been very cautious about choosing a cheap, bulk-billed doctor. Central Brunswick Centre is not bulk-billed, but it is rebated by Medicare, so your average cost for a consultation is about $30. The staff are super friendly and you don't have to wait too long when you book an appointment. When it comes to your health you can never be too careful but I wouldn't trust anywhere else.

Central Brunswick Medical Centre is gay friendly, and the majority of doctors are gay themselves. So a lot of the LGBT community are patients here and can get sexual advice and check ups in a comfortable environment. I'm straight but I come here because the doctors, receptionists and facilities are amazing. I've been to a few doctors here. Ken Koh is very helpful, and when I left the appointment he even called me on his private office line to double check whether or not I'd had certain vaccines. Fiona Bishop is fantastic, and is always on high demand. When I first wanted to come to this clinic she wasn't taking on any new patients, but six months later I somehow managed to weasel my way onto her regular patient's list. She's compassionate, but firm, and made me piss myself when I walked in with a nasty virus and she spent our entire consultation with a face mask on. (I was very contagious.) James Kennedy is a sweetheart and has a lovely Irish accent that will make you forget all of your ails. The nurse is also incredibly kind and considerate. My ears get blocked often so I come here to get them flushed out. Having water flushed into your middle ear isn't exactly pleasant and can leave you feeling nauseous, so the nurse sat and chatted with me while the room stopped spinning. Some important things to note: - You're able to claim most of the bill back through medicare, and the ladies at reception can help you set things up so those returns are paid directly to your account. - There's a pathology clinic down the hall so you can get your tests done in one hit. - If you're catching public transport, this place can be a bit difficult to find. Walk past Grill'd, then past Video Ezy, walk up two flights of stairs and it's straight ahead on your left.
