I once went to a doctor that prescribed me anti-histamines when I had pneumonia. As a result I got asthma, and I've been very cautious about choosing a cheap, bulk-billed doctor. Central Brunswick Centre is not bulk-billed, but it is rebated by Medicare, so your average cost for a consultation is about $30. The staff are super friendly and you don't have to wait too long when you book an appointment. When it comes to your health you can never be too careful but I wouldn't trust anywhere else.

Central Brunswick Medical Centre is gay friendly, and the majority of doctors are gay themselves. So a lot of the LGBT community are patients here and can get sexual advice and check ups in a comfortable environment. I'm straight but I come here because the doctors, receptionists and facilities are amazing. I've been to a few doctors here. Ken Koh is very helpful, and when I left the appointment he even called me on his private office line to double check whether or not I'd had certain vaccines. Fiona Bishop is fantastic, and is always on high demand. When I first wanted to come to this clinic she wasn't taking on any new patients, but six months later I somehow managed to weasel my way onto her regular patient's list. She's compassionate, but firm, and made me piss myself when I walked in with a nasty virus and she spent our entire consultation with a face mask on. (I was very contagious.) James Kennedy is a sweetheart and has a lovely Irish accent that will make you forget all of your ails. The nurse is also incredibly kind and considerate. My ears get blocked often so I come here to get them flushed out. Having water flushed into your middle ear isn't exactly pleasant and can leave you feeling nauseous, so the nurse sat and chatted with me while the room stopped spinning. Some important things to note: - You're able to claim most of the bill back through medicare, and the ladies at reception can help you set things up so those returns are paid directly to your account. - There's a pathology clinic down the hall so you can get your tests done in one hit. - If you're catching public transport, this place can be a bit difficult to find. Walk past Grill'd, then past Video Ezy, walk up two flights of stairs and it's straight ahead on your left.

And when that point comes you want them to be great. I feel pretty confident I've found that in the team at Market Street Medical. I mean, when was the last time your doctor called you to say your doctor was running late to save you sitting in the waiting room for 30-40mins? Sure, it throws your day out but at least you can do something else in those 30-40mins rather than sit captive reading Country Style or House & Garden. I waited several months to see Dr Maintsone (she's that much of a rockstar she has a hefty waiting list) after recommendation from a friend who, with similar plights to my own, sung her praises. After the first visit with Dr Mainstone I understood why. She's considerate, understanding and sees issues as pieces of a greater puzzle. I feel she's genuinely interested in the health of her patients and I appreciate her commitment to looking at the bigger picture rather than always reaching for a quick fix. It is because of Dr Mainstone I was able, towards the end of 2013, gain some closure and context around a few medical issues and finally not feel like I was the crazy one for talking of such symptoms. They are more expensive than other GPs I've visited and I personally am okay with this for the level of treatment and attention I receive. They process your Medicare claim online in the practice and you'll be amazed how fast that money is back in your piggy bank.

I've been in this hospital quite a few times over the years (and several times recently), either to…read morevisit someone else or be a patient myself. The hospital has a new feel to it because it is, relatively - a good decade or so they rearranged and rebuilt the whole complex. I've been in the E.R. (or "triage") a few times (kidneys misbehavin') and it's never fun to be a patient in hospital. However, there are "good" visits where you're seen to quickly and treated well and there are agonizing drawn-out visits where they've run out of beds and you're in the foetal position in a chair. I've experienced both in this hospital in the last two years. If you're ill on a Friday or Saturday night, you won't be seen to in E.R. quickly unless you're in extreme danger as the ward is filled with drunk idiots who've harmed themselves, as well as a few drug addicts who have stumbled into police hands. Generally I find the nurses here to be nice and helpful and the doctors absent-mindedly come and go. Usually during each E.R. visit you can expect to see up to three different doctors, and you have to get them all up to speed on your condition when they first visit. I find this to be a general hospital trend, though (at least in Australia and North America). From a completely different perspective, the pharmacy and the downstairs cafe here rock. I've had the best scones with jam and cream of my life at this cafe and the coffee is excellent, the vibe of the place funky. The last time I was here I noticed the cafe was closed, so I hope they're not shutting it down in favour of the new-ish large food court upstairs (though that's not bad food, either.) Also, the chemist here sells the best local artistic jewellery I've seen in Brisbane. The earrings in the $10-$20 range are fantastic; each is uniquely hand-crafted and the beads/stones are beautiful. Yep, the RBWH is my favourite jewellery store.

For the most part the staff are as helpful as they can be with someone with a chronic issue . Keeping in mind that this is a public hospital some of the nurses tend to treat chronic issues with disregard and disrespect. If you have the opportunity I would suggest going to another hospital as the RWBH has staff who can be rude and make you only feel worse then you did prior to coming in. A possible cause is it's proximity to the Valley night club district and they have seen their fare share of drug O/Ds and drunk lads passed out. My suggestion to any staff member in any occupation is that if you find that you can no longer do your job with respect and professionalism it's time to find a new career path.

I originally chose this clinic because I was looking for a bulk billing clinic in the CBD. I did some research and came across this clinic because on its website it states that it is bulk billed for students and health care card patients so I made an booking through their online booking engine. On my first visit the doctor was on time for my consultation. I had a blood test done and when I finished, I went to the reception and the lady asked me to pay $75. I asked her if this place is bulk billed and she said no, they never do any bulk billing. Okay...maybe the website isn't up to date I thought. Fine, so I paid the fee and made a follow up appointment for my test result. I made it a mental note to check with them next time. On my subsequent visit I waited about 30 mins, and went to see the very same doctor. She gave me my test result but no prescription or advice on how to improve my condition. It was basically "here's the test result and you need to increase iron. Come back in two months to monitor your condition". It was less than three minutes. The doctor didn't even talk about my condition or anything, or look into possibilities of what might have caused it. Instead, she just told me my results, printed a pathology form for blood testing in July (I saw her in May), and said to see her again in two months time. Obviously I did not get my blood test done right there and then. That was the end of my consultation and I went out to the reception ithinking it was a result follow up visit (as a result follow up is not charged). Anyway, the receptionist charged me $75 again, and I told her that it was just a follow up to my blood test. She checked the system and said it wasn't purely a follow up as I was given a pathology form. SHIFTY! So, too tired to argue, and probably not well prepared, I paid the $75 and made another mental note to never return to the clinic again. Three weeks after my last visit, I received a bill in my mailbox from the pathology centre for payment of the test I did when I went to the clinic!!!! Apparently the doctor did not bulk bill my blood test and they sent me the invoice!!! I was soooooo angry. i just felt that this clinic is such a rip off, and I didn't feel that I got good medical advice or consultation. I have yet to find a good GP in Brisbane as I am new to the area but one thing for sure, I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK TO THIS CLINIC AGAIN!!!!!! Don't waste your money, find another place.

I first started going to MGPC when the bulk-booking clinic down the road was all booked out one day…read morewhen I was legitimately sick. This was back when I was a bit poorer, but MGPC taught me quickly that paying for consultations was worth it when the service provided was so, so much better. For general consultations I highly recommend Dr Kratzing, Dr Butcher (slightly alarming surname for a doctor but give him, his English accent and his monobrow a chance), and Dr Gilbert . For general consultations and lady business (because I am a girl and feel weird talking to boys about girl things), I highly recommend Dr Featherstone and Dr Munro. I'm not super picky with my doctors, so I'll generally book an appointment at a time that's most convenient for me rather than for a specific doctor, but in all my time going to MGPC I've only seen a couple of doctors I didn't gel with. Like all clinics, you may find yourself having to sit around for a while - I usually call up to check how far behind a doctor is running before I get in the car, but still end up waiting for at least one appointment ahead of me. I think the longest I've waited is around 45mins, but that was a once-off - 15-20mins is more standard. The waiting room has plenty of trashy magazines available for reading, and it's large enough that you can generally get cosy in a corner without feeling like you're playing a game of sardines (though during flu season it can still get pretty full in there). I've lived in a few different suburbs of Brisbane over the years, both near to and far from MGPC, but I'm very happy with the standard at MGPC and will continue to be a client no matter where in Brisbane I live.
