The ladies are all amazing and nice, very understanding of schedules and the fact we can create our own schedule is great. I need two full time jobs and this place allows me to work a full time position while working another full time job. The training was great and they seem to really care about their workers. I would choose BrightStar care any day and every day! They don't make it a big issue if you call in sick and check in on you to see how you're feeling. Its a very organized company and I feel as if Ill never have a complaint. They are a great resource for my resume as well. I LOVE BRIGHTSTAR CARE OF ST CROIX LAKE ELMO!

My mom was admitted for pneumonia from a memory care facility, and she needed oxygen to keep her…read moreoxygen saturation up. On her first day on the floor, the nurses decided to only do spot checks on her saturation because she was always trying to take her probe out. The problem was that she was also taking her oxygen off too (and grabbing the PICC line despite the sleeve they put over it). When I asked how they would know if she was desatting - or needing less oxygen, they insisted on just doing spot checks. Keep in mind, they rarely came into her room. Another issue I had was with my mom's incontinence management. In the ER they used a purewick to help keep her dry and thus protect her skin. Once admitted, they stopped because they said it "was a waste because she was pulling it out." Instead, they wanted her to urinate in an adult diaper and then wait until they did rounds to change her. No offer of a commode or bed pan. A diaper. Meanwhile, her patient care assistant named Honey (who was amazing!!!) suggested that we use it when we get her up in the chair, but the nurses said no - because again, it was a waste. Once up in the chair, mom said she had to use the bathroom again, but the nurse started to walk out of the room anyway. I told mom that they didnt have a pure wick on but that she had a brief on, and the nurse (Katie) mumbled "that's because it would be a waste," and kept walking out. The nurse was obviously fine letting mom sit in a wet brief until her next 2 hour check. I guess I should be grateful that she didnt try to get up and go to the bathroom herself, which she kept saying she was going to do. I'm pretty sure she would have without someone in the room with her most of the day, especially when they had no clue she was pulling on her PICC line and taking her oxygen off when I told them. Like I said, they were rarely in her room. By this point, mom was afraid, restless, and wanted to go home. The plan was to discharge with the oxygen, as I wasn't comfortable with her there anymore. The doctor said that she needed to wean her off of her oxygen before discharging (or she could transport back to memory care on oxygen), but that it wasn't safe to go back without it. After RT and the doctor left, I noticed that the oxygen tubing was disconnected from the wall, so I asked her nurse, Katie, if it wasn't supposed to be on, and she said "no, it can be off." Then another nurse came in and said that it would be OK to put it back on "since she was resting, and she would be leaving with it anyway." What happened to it not being safe for her to be off of the oxygen??? Once the portable oxygen arrived, they got her dressed as quickly as possible and rushed me out the door to pull the car up before they even had her discharge papers! They brought her out, put her in the car, handed me her papers, and left. They didn't give any instructions, nor did they tell us that her prescription antibiotics were at the hospital pharmacy. This was by far one of the worst experiences in healthcare that I have ever been a part of! As a nurse of 31 years and an advocate for my mother, I can honestly say that she would not have been safe there if she didn't have family that could be with her to ask questions and make sure she got what she needed. I will not be bringing her back to St John's. I don't think anyone who has loved ones with dementia should consider bringing them to this hospital either. It's not safe for anyone who cannot speak for themselves!

She had some complicated chronic medical conditions, and there was little attempt to coordinate with providers who had an understanding of particular treatments that were important to provide. They made mistakes that could have been, should have been avoided, with better coordination. She needed intensive physical therapy, she got very little, with little explanation of why. Quality of staffing was variable, with some at times seeming negligent and at other times competent. She was glad when we discovered that her assisted living facility where she had been living prior to a hospitalization could provide better services than she received at Lyngblomsten.

They also did not give a diabetic diet which was needed. I can't imagine what happens for those who are speaking impaired or elderly and don't know the health care system.
