Northern Quarter

I've been working in NQ for nearly two months now and lunch has always been harder than you might…read morethink. To start with I was quite extravagant, spending a tenner on burgers, artisan pies and the like - after spending my wages I started to bring in my own rabbit food salad *sad face.... But that was until I tried Rustica! I'd ways walked past and thought hmmm, not for me - what a fool I was. First of all Theres a great atmosphere in the shop; Motown playing, the girls chatty and friendly and a nice selection of pasta and hot/cold sandwiches. I plumped for the chicken club, it was warm, tasty and filling - everything you want from lunch, and only £3.35 - stuff your tesco meal deals! Don't let the functional layout stop you trying the best place for a cheap, quality bite to eat in the NQ!

Rustica. My god. Never have I been so honoured by such a small sandwich maker. A very small little kitchen with a counter it is on unlucky times brim to overflowing with folk desperate to eat one of them. By them of course I mean the sandwiches. It doesn't matter what you have its all made with look and affection. But if you really want something that fell from heaven there is one award winning bad boy the milano. On a granary bap it is filled with...... prepare yourself chicken, bacon, pesto, parmesan, mayonnaise and salad (this you can pick from the buckets of iceberg and sweetcorn bits etc). This is the single greatest sandwich I've ever eaten. The only time I don't have one is when the hour dictates its breakfast then I have a breakfast bin lid (a huge bap stuffed full of a big breakfast).

The air is heavy with yummy food smells and really gets you excited for what's to come! The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived. The ordering system here is a little chaotic from an American standpoint. You place an order at the register, but at first it seemed hard to tell where that line began. Once we got that all sorted out, we grabbed a table and waited for our food. I got strumpets and my husband had the English Breakfast. I loved my meal and had a few nibbles off my husband's plate and everything was legit good! The sausage is made in house and the food was excellent quality. Katsouris is located in a bustling part of the city and had great people watching too! I would love to return here in my next trip to Manchester to try more of their fare.

Careful this place will make you wonder why you paid so much more elsewhere…read more But let's start with the beginning. And the best advice I can give you is "take your time". There are so many food options and variations. Even when the counter is free to order don't jump on it. Make sure you understand all menu options first. That said I ordered - half a "German" Frikadellen sandwich - half an Eastern chicken sandwich - a small (regular fries) and a coffee latte. It all came down to £14.50 (including the extra tax you pay while eating in) a steal! Let's address the Elefant in the room first: a German guy ordering a German Frikadellen sandwich and he is about to review it. A Frikadelle is a meatball patty The specialty is it is made with egg and onions. Let me tell you it is nothing about this sandwich being German. lol. It's Just a regular meat patty. In general, that is fine, but why would you mark it as a German Frikadelle. so please don't get food. This is not original. It is still a tasty sandwich though. The chicken sandwich has a delicious tzatziki coming with it which is Jo sauce with garlic and dill sometimes onions which in this case has not. Did chicken meat stove was tasty but a little bit on the dry side which is surprising for a deli that is as busy as this one. Overall, both sandwiches were very dry they were missing a sauce taste Wise both of them have been good I ordered Health sent juice so that I can try both but what came was a real sandwich so I got two full sandwiches. Please be aware if you are just a little bit hungry don't order more than one sandwich. They are very generous. The fries have been VERY crispy. I like mine well done but that was even a bit hard for me. They have a very tasty seasoning (like a good crisp/chip with paprika) and I ordered the regular-sized portion I am so happy I did cause I would have not been able to eat it all (even when they would have been perfectly cooked). Would I order again yes I would now know what I know I can easily adjust and ask them to give me more sources or anything to make it a little bit Juicy. Of course, I cannot ask them for chicken not to be dry but it was still tasty. In the end, it was a huge meal and I suggest starting small you can always go a second time. Prices are Hands down surprisingly low. I will have to take down one point for marketing products as "German" and then not even being close to the original. And a second one for the sandwiches being dry and so have been the chicken. Three stars easily can get to four - even five when they make the sandwich differently or make a Frikadelle.

The service was really good with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I'll be back for sure. The prices were good also. The best Patissier and Chocolatier in North Manchester…read more Any time I drive into Manchester (which is very often) I have to drive past Slattery's and always manage to make some excuse to pop in. I shouldn't have to make an excuse to go here - It's excellent. The ground floor is their outstanding chocolate and cake shop - definitely worth spending some time here tasting and choosing what they have on offer. Their selection of over 40 celebration cakes on display are stunning - you'll find yourself staring at them like some sort of art. A few of the wedding cakes are pushing £1,000.. asking if it would be worth it? For me, yes! Their cakes are amazing - no wonder Wayne Rooney bought his wedding cake from here and had it shipped to Italy. You'll find me with my face pressed up against the viewing window where you can watch the cake decorators working hard to perfect these masterpieces *drool* I'm certainly not planning my wedding or anything but I already know that there's a massive possibility that my cake will be from here. On the first floor is an elegant restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and of course CAKE. The menu is fab and I haven't heard anybody mention a bad word about it. I have yet to visit the restaurant and I hear that unless you book weeks in advance you've no chance of getting in, but this only makes me want to try it even more and it is certainly on my list. In the past I have bought baskets from here and made my own hampers, mainly for family or friends at Christmas time - consisting of chocolates, hand make cakes, biscuits, marmalades, wines etc (all locally sourced). Safe to say these always go down well. If you have a sweet tooth, this is somewhere you should definitely visit.

The leading independent sandwich chain!! Found in the thriving lunch time highway of Portland…read morestreet phil potts is a bit more sophisticated then your standard issue cheese and pickle sarnie. Trying to think how many fillings and combinations is like trying to calculate the amount of stars in the universe (1024 according to the all powerful google), but it's all a tad on the special side which is nice. So imagine replicating a ham sandwich for a Mediterranean tuna sandwich and your getting there. But all this specialness doesn't come cheap, with sandwiches beginning around the £4 mark it is maybe okay just for once or if your feeling crazy twice a week. Additionally there's not masses of seating which is a shame as the place is quite cosy. But on the whole, if your feeling classy head here.

Philpotts is like the anti-Subway. Yes, it's a chain, yes, you get sandwiches made right in front…read moreof you... where exactly am I going with this... Let's start again. If you're going to pick a sandwich chain, Philpotts is a great bet. They're based in Chester which in my book makes them entirely Mancunian... well not quite but they're at least Greater Mancunian, and it's a small chain. You sure as heck won't find one on every street corner, although you'll find five in Manchester. This Brazennose Street offering (remember how much I like Brazennose Street, remember, and not just because of its strange name) has everything you could want in store, from grab and go sandwiches to gourmet soups, cakes and puddings to piping hot coffee, and, well, wouldn't you know it, sandwiches made to order. Just exactly what you fancy. I find this confusing as I'm rubbish with a large variety of choice, but I know that you real proper people will find that just stunning. I myself prefer to take a template and add some of my own accessories. I need at least a base sandwich to start with. Just like with pizza. But the BF is the exact opposite and relishes in 'making his own', so this is perfect for those types. As you'd imagine the office crowd love this place at lunchtime so get there early to avoid disappointment. Plus there are all sorts of seasonal specials, with three exclusive offers to choose from each day. Philpotts also provide catering and business lunches with sandwich platters and made to order items. As chains go, this is certainly a superb choice. Praise be to Philpotts.
