I underwent physical therapy bi-weekly for 13 months and took pain pills, but they didn't alleviate my plantar fasciitis or the constant pain from my knee and hip replacement surgeries. However, each visit to this floating spa was transformative. The spa features a spacious tub filled with healing items like Epsom salt, where I can float, listen to music, and relax under a starry ceiling. Now, the pain is gone, my back is straight, and I'm no longer limping! There's also a cozy waiting area where I can unwind, read, or listen to soothing music. The owners and staff provide exceptional service, and the spa is impeccably clean. Shoes are left at the door, and all amenities, such as robes and towels, are readily available. Floating in a tank filled with 200 lbs of salt should be done right. First State Floats makes the experience better than a newbie like me could have imagined. Walking in the studio is clean and yes, shoe free. But during my stay, I noticed they mopped the floor before I headed out. Both the owner and the staff made me feel comfortable. I was taken on a tour of the place since it was my first time and while small, it houses 3 float tanks and a huge space that could be used for meditation/yoga or just a quiet place to hang after your float. I stayed in River, the first float room. It's bright and they provide most of what you'll need: body wash, shampoo and conditioner for your shower post and pre float, ear plugs, jelly for cuts which was inventive. They don't provide a hair dryer in the room but they did have microfiber towel for drying the hair specifically. The float was an experience. It is timed automatically so as soon as you lay down a voice prompts you that your session has begun. You can choose between lights or no lights, music or no music. The water in the tank is about 80, not too hot but definitely relaxing. A previous review states the shower is pretty lukewarm which was the same for me. I would've liked for that to be hotter to add to the relaxation. A nice touch outside my room was a bottled water and an orange. I had brought my own because I didn't know what would be provided but I that was very thoughtful ! My appt was at 3:30 I ended up leaving around 5:30. They didn't rush me out which was nice but i know they also need to clean up after me so I sat in the mediation area for a bit before heading out. First time floaters get a special intro price of $65! I would definitely go back. They even have a membership that seems like a great deal! read more

This was my first float experience and I have to say it was extremely relaxing. The vibe of the entire place is mellow and chill. The people who work there are very inviting and sweet! Everything was so clean and well laid out. I took a star away because the water temperature in my shower was luke warm making the experience... cold. I was also disappointed that there was a mediation area that couldn't be used during Covid. I understand of course but think there should have been a slight discount because all services weren't available. read more

First State Floats is my happy place. The owners have managed to create a tranquil and soothing environment that immediately awaken your senses the minute you walk through the door. The staff are genuinely happy to be there and will do all they can to make your float an exceptional experience. The owners have created a family atmosphere and treat you as their own. I have wanted to try a floating session but never realized that this place was open right here in Delaware. I received a gift card for Christmas and recently went for my session. The studio is a shoe free zone so they ask you to remove your shoes upon arrival. When it's time for session you are taken back and everything is explained to you in detail. There are three float rooms. I booked the "ocean" room which is the largest and also has twinkle lights in the ceiling. There is a shower in each room for before and after your float. The facility is very clean and and the staff is welcoming. They also have space for relaxing and reflecting after your float session and and an area for yoga. Keep in my mind that your hair will be wet afterwards although they do have a hairdryer for use. They also provide disposable earplugs, and towels. read more

I went in today for my first ever float and was extremely thrilled with my experience. I didn't know what to expect as I had never tried anything like this. I was greeted as soon as I walked in a was shown around. The facilities seem very clean and looked like a spa. Before you float, they ask that you shower beforehand (the room you're in has one with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and towels). They give you a pair of earplugs and some Vaseline to cover any nicks or cuts (trust me, use it) and you walk into the tank to float in water that is about a foot/foot and a half high. You sit down, lay back, and float. The tank has music on/off and light on/off buttons, I recommend lights off and music on. Overall it was extremely relaxing and can't wait to come back. read more

I booked this float not knowing much about it. All I can say is wow. David and the team from first state floats really helped me out with some booking confusion. The experience was amazing. From walking in to getting oriented on how to do the float, they really helped every step of the way. Staff there is super friendly. You get that good vibe as soon as the door opens. The staff were like hanging out with old friends again, they were one of a kind. They explained everything from the time you shake hands to the operation of the room you chose. I hate comparing things to the west coast, but I felt like I was living there again. You can take that however you want to. But it's a huge compliment. The pods were spotless, everything was in tip top shape. The studio area had a calming feeling, I could sit there for hours. I will always take the ocean room, they have stars that twinkle above you, and the pod is the biggest I've seen. It's not something someone with claustrophobia would have any problems with. My anxiety went away, and I was at peace with my body for the whole hour. I suggest you go. You will thank me. read more

I went for my first float on June 22 & it was amazing!!!! I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, but it was surprisingly relaxing. I'm semi claustrophobic and was a bit concerned that I wouldn't be able to get the full experience; however within a few minutes, I was relaxed and even turned off the lights! The River and Bay rooms are nice, but the Ocean room is where it's at!! The Ocean room has lights on the top of the ceiling (which I tried to get a picture of but it didn't do it justice!). It's also big enough for couples to float together! I'm super tempted to get a membership so that I can go at least twice a month! You really should visit multiple times though because the first few times you're still getting used to it. I've never done yoga before; however they have a nice little studio in the back that they tell you you can use after your float. They also provide some teas and water for after your float so you can sit down on the couches and write in a journal or use their breathing balls to further relax. My recommendation is this; grab one or two friends & make reservations in the same hour time slot (there's 3 rooms; so you could go with 2 friends), don't forget your brush (I forget it every time) & bring any special shower products with you.
