For a 2-family home I am being charged $590 for subpar service. My appraisal came back lower than expected even though the comps that were used were not renovated like my home. I challenged NJ Lenders and this appraisal with supporting documents and First Source refused to change their evaluation of the home. Customers beware. Even argued racial discrimination regarding the appraisal and it fell at the waste side. Appraisers are bound by the Fair Housing Act of 1968 to not discriminate based on race, religion, national origin, or gender. Appraisals, by nature, are subjective in nature. As a result, it is extremely difficult to pinpoint the micro aggressions and subconscious biases that exist in the discrimination regarding appraisals. Unbelievably slow. It took 12 days for a very basic appraisal on a new construction. In the write up, the sentences were half complete and many didn't make any sense. It was clear there was little care for the appraisal we paid for through our lender. read more
