This place holds a very special place in our hearts. My child has some special needs and after having a bad experience at another preschool, we were afraid to try another. Flps welcomed us and created an enjoyable, safe, and inclusive environment. Our child thrived here, learned to speak and communicate more, learned to play with other kids (he refused to be next to other kids before here). He learned so much and gained so many skills here. Ms. Anna was amazing and always made him feel loved and welcome as well as the other staff. It's so hard to trust others with your child especially when your child can't communicate but this was best possible place for him. We wish we didn't have to leave for elementary. I would recommend this place a thousand times over. We loved it here and our child loved it here. read more

First Lutheran Preschool is the BEST! It has truly been one of the best decisions we could've made for our 4 year old son. The teachers are fun and nurturing, and credit to the director (Ms Jeni), there's very little teacher turnover which is an indication that everyone likes working there. If the teachers are happy, the kids are happy. Ms. Valarie was my son's first teacher and we always appreciated how she communicated with us multiple times DAILY...how he napped, how he ate, how he played, what activity they did etc...with pictures. It's always hard leaving your Little Ones at preschool but knowing that they're having fun and being well taken care of at school is such a relief to nervous parents like myself. Ms. Valarie was so warm and understanding-I don't think I've ever seen her even remotely impatient with any of the kids, even when they were a little too energetic, she was firm but always kind. They have a good sized playground with shaded areas, their parking lot is huge which is so nice when you have to drop off kids in the morning, they have a huge gym where the kids play when it's too hot/too cold/ rainy to play outside. There's also a huge yard/grassy area where the teachers take the kids to go on nature walks sometimes or even just to run around. And you know the kids love to run! I appreciate how they do temperature checks in the morning, wipe down all the toys at the end of the day-even the pens you use to check your kids in are wiped every day. There's no way to keep your kids from getting sick especially at this age but I think FLP does everything they can to keep it at a minimum. The tuition is VERY reasonable and we really like the convenience of being able to pay by credit card on-line, but of course you can also pay by check as well. The teacher to kids ratio is great and they usually have floaters if the teacher needs more help. We checked out many preschools before deciding on FLP and were so glad that we did. Our family loves First Lutheran Preschool. All three of our children have attended over the past six years. The director (Ms. Jeni) and all of the teachers are wonderful and create an environment that allows children to learn, grow and be creative. I can also say with our family being there for quite awhile that the level of care has remained consistent which shows what a great program they have established. My children have loved all of the teachers they have had during their time at First Lutheran. Our youngest, who started in the Nido (baby) room, finished her last year this summer and just transitioned over to elementary school. I can say all three of my children were well prepared when they entered TK or kindergarten at our local elementary. My daughter attended First Lutheran Preschool from the time we moved to Concord (May 2010) until just this past week. While I'm excited that she's growing up and moving on to new things, I'm sad to have to leave First Lutheran (only because she's old enough to move on to elementary school). I could not have asked for a better preschool experience for my child. We became quite attached to the whole staff, as each and every one of them truly cared about the well-being of our daughter. Many a time i actually had to chase her down because she didn't want to leave! The rates are quite reasonable (let's just say I was saving close to $400/month compared to where she was going in SF), and it's nice that they take kids starting at age 2 and still in diapers. They help potty train, also, and once they are potty trained the price goes down a bit. My daughter learned so many things at FLPS, and I especially loved when she came home singing a new song. The children attend chapel once a week, and it was always cute when she would relate the stories she learned to me, such as the story of 'Adam and E' (that's what she called it haha). I loved the "Parents' Night Out" that they offered every so often...it gave me and my husband a chance to get out, and the children have a great time in a familiar environment. I feel so lucky to have found FLPS, and I would definitely recommend it to any parents looking for a preschool in the area. read more

I absolutely adore this school and everything about it! The teachers and director are all fantastic! They have great hours and are always accommodating if you need to do an additional day for drop-in. My son (who is now entering 1st grade) went here and now my 2-year-old daughter goes. My son was so well prepared for Kindergarten and scored in the top of his class. I feel their program and teachers were largely to thank for that. As a previous preschool teacher and current 1st grade teacher, I believe I know education. I chose First Lutheran after visiting about a dozen preschools for a tour and asking the same questions. My daughter went here from 2 years 9 months to 5 years 4 months. She has had several teachers and been in a few classrooms. She loved her time there. I feel the education was age appropriate. The teachers are so kind and patient with the children. I also really enjoyed getting a daily picture of what my daughter was doing. It helped me have a conversation with her about her day. The director was very active in all of the school aspects. I highly recommend this school. read more

This is not just a preschool!!! They have a school aged program during the summer!!! WE LOVE IT SOOOO MUCH!!! They have field trips like 1-4 a week!!! They have chapel once a week. They have a VBS in the middle of the summer as part of the package if you do the week they have it. You pay by the week and are only committed on a week to week basis. When they are closed for holidays or staff days you pay less on those weeks!! It is not like this at most other schools I could find or summer camps for that matter. This year 2015 we pay $195 a week for full time care from 6:30am to 6pm. That is a good deal!!!! Also, not many places open that early for us early workers. We pick up sooner but still!!! The teachers are all so loving and yet good at discipline. They are also very kind to us parents and I can tell they care about us. It really is like having extended family even though we have only been there one summer!! They are staying on my child with reading so brain does not get lazy over the summer. They have a Jump Bunch team that comes once a week to do professional jumping and physical activities. They have a cooking day every week. They have a theme every week like "American History Week" or "Beach and Ocean". There is only about 12 kids for the one to two teachers. They have two teachers really but one leaves early and one comes early. I don't know the over lap but I know there is a time that they are there together because my child told me. That is AWESOME!!!! My child absolutely loves it there. It feels like a family there too. The other parents are nice even though I rarely see them as we all come at different times usually. They have plenty of space to walk around and run in the fields on the grounds. There is two playgrounds to keep the preschoolers separate from the school age kids. I wish they had schools like this in the Fremont area but they don't!!! I just can't say enough good things about Mrs Tami, Mary Berry, Ms. Mary F. and Ms. Kelly too!!! My son has been going here ever since he was 2. I am so impressed with his learning and development!!! All the staff is so loving and really care about you and your child. They are always available when you need anything from a concern to a quick question. Their tuition rates are great too! I was referred here because I was new to the area and was nervous about where I was going to send my child to school. They have made me feel so comfortable and you can tell my son loves it!!! I would highly recommend FLPS to anyone looking for childcare/preschool. My daughter attended FLPS under two years. The only reason we moved her is because she was starting elementary school. The staff at FLPS is friendly, engaging and they really care about their families. I feel that the Director, Ms Gretchen, took the time to know the families and to address any concerns in a productive and positive manner. Every now and then - they offer an evening care -- "Parent's Night Out". My daughter would beg me to let her stay at daycare for "Parent's Night Out". I yanked my child out of this school shortly after beginning, so please know my opinion is from a short-lived experience there. My child was day-time potty trained and came home having had 2-3 accidents per day. The overall feel of the 2-3 year old class was "chaos" and "disorganized." I think they were too busy to get my child to the toilet, which just isn't right. Also, one of the new two-year old teachers was short-tempered and said something very disturbing in my and my child's presence. I couldn't believe it. She seemed to need a job, but didn't act as though she wanted to be there...she seemed like she was faking it and that made me very uncomfortable. When I brought it up to the Director, she asked that I give it some time and they would work with her on it. However, after thinking about it for quite some time, I realized I couldn't allow my child to be exposed to this teacher any longer. Why was I paying to send my child to a preschool, while this teacher was trying to get her act together? There were a couple other things that bothered me too. On occasion they served unhealthy snacks. For instance, they put green food dye in the apple juice and called it "Shrek juice" and served chocolate chip cookies. The other annoying thing is that they frequently painted the children's faces. While fun for the kids, it became quite the pain for me. I would come to pick my child up and their face would be entirely painted as a tiger and we would be going to run errands or out to dinner. It also took the paint a couple of days to completely wash off. I didn't feel things were going to be resolved in a timely manner, so I pulled my child from the program. It could be a great preschool, but I didn't get the feeling that the Director was truly in charge. It didn't seem that her number one priority was the kids, but rather her staff. To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart. read more

My daughter was a former FLP student and graduated from the preschool back in 2010 but she returns every summer for camp because she really enjoys it. The staff is very attentive and nurturing which is very hard to find these days. I always feel a sense of security every time I leave my daughter in their care because I know that she will be taken care of. The preschool and summer camps are excellent programs and I highly recommend FLP because of the wonderful environment it provides for the little ones. read more

My son attended First Lutheran Preschool from the age of 2 until he 'graduated' & moved on to kindergarten this last year. He loved it there & my two older boys attended the summer camp 3 yrs in a row. All three of them loved it there. I was in tears on my son's last day & he still asks if we can go back & visit. The teachers are supportive and caring and really love these kids and what they do. My middle child was attending a different preschool when I first heard about First Lutheran, but I was hesitant to move him because I didn't want him to have to adjust to a different environment. But when I enrolled my youngest son, I really wished I had switched my middle child. I have referred several of my friends to First Lutheran over the years & the ones who checked it out loved it too! The teachers are wonderful, the program is wonderful & it's sooo much more affordable than some of the other day care's/preschool's. My son is 2 years old and has been going to First Lutheran since April. The staff is amazing! I was concerned about sending my son to preschool since he has been with my mom since he was a baby. The staff at First Lutheran were great with him, bringing him to the window when I left so say goodbye. The second day he was not upset and was excited to go to school. Every day since he asks to go to school and is upset when I tell him that it is the weekend and there is no school. I enjoy talking to all of the teachers, they always take the time to tell me how my son's day went. They have been helpful with potty training, something that is really important to me. I absolutely love this school. I had been searching for preschools and daycares near my home (Antioch), near my work (Oakland) and near my commute. In 2015 my daughter went to 3 different schools until we settled on First Lutheran. This school has small class size and each class is dedicated to one age versus having a mixture of ages in one class. They operate like a family. They have good hours for working families. They even have monthly "date nights"! They have fun interactive activities for the children during the day and even activities for special occasions to include the parents. They have an app for your phone where they upload pictures everyday and the children activities. It's amazing. I'm at work and then receive pictures of my daughter having fun and learning. They accept children from 2 to 6 I believe but are planning to add newborns soon and accept older kids during the summer. My daughter was 3 when she started. They provide transportation to and from nearby schools. They provide healthy snacks. I plan to keep my child here for as long as they will allow it. :) read more

We had a great experience at First Lutheran, and I'd recommend this preschool to anyone who is "shopping" for one. My daughter adjusted quickly at age 3 and the staff were friendly, helpful, caring and nurturing. The school is always clean and organized, and they helped with potty training. I always left feeling like my daughter was in good hands and that they would keep her safe. She learned so many wonderful things at this school, and she often sings the songs she learned there. My only regret is that I didn't find this preschool sooner when my older kids were little!! read more
