Wow, I am in shock that I did not review this salon sooner! Bijou was probably one of my greatest…read morediscoveries to date in the Syracuse area. I am a curly haired gal and- let me tell you- I have experienced some pretty awful haircuts in Upstate New York. Lots of places advertise curly cuts, "devacuts", yaddah yaddah- but they truly have no idea what they are doing. I can't tell you how many times I have had to go to NYC for rescue haircuts. ENTER JOLENE AND BIJOU.... if you want a great curly cut, this is where you should be going. Jolene is a genius- she truly understand the dynamic nature of curls and takes her time getting a lay of the "curl land" before she starts snipping. She starts with a dry cut to make sure she doesn't take too much... then she proceeds with the wash and dry process... and then- the grand finale- more styling at the end. She cut my hair before my wedding last July- it was perfect. And she just rejuvenated my mop of hair again today. I find the prices to be very, very fair. As an aside, everyone wears masks at the salon, and they check your temp and employ mandatory hand washing when you first walk in. If you have curly hair and are living in upstate New York/Syracuse, you must try this place.

From the color, the cut to the company she was a great hairstylist and I would 100% recommend her to anyone. She was so polite and personal and did a great job with blending my roots out. On top of it the salon was up to date, VERY clean and a great relaxing atmosphere. Go here!

The professional proprietor was the first to greet me with his smile and handsome very well groomed and stately mustache. Then after a short wait the very talented and delightful Caitlin carefully consulted me about my desired look before she dutifully like a gentle hair GURU..cut my hair to make me feel, look, and radiate again! I felt revitalized, almost as if the cut made me feel brand new! Thank you for the power cut QUEEN! I recommend completely.

Sorry Yelp engineering team-- I think that 5 stars might not be enough for Hairanoia…read more I was lucky enough to be able to schedule an appointment last minute, presumably due to a cancellation. Note that many of the stylists, especially the owner Michael, tend to book out for months. The online booking system was super simple to navigate, and gave me text updates. My appointment was in the evening, which in itself is a major plus. About an hour before my scheduled time, Michael called me and told me he could accommodate me 45 minutes earlier, which was a major plus. The shop was popping when I arrived-- phones ringing, customers popping in, even though it was the evening. The decor is really charming. Lots of interesting artwork and knick-knacks to catch the eye. When Michael asked, "what are we doing today?" I told him the color I wanted and he took the reins from there, which I appreciated, because I'm not the kind of person who goes to salons very often. Later in the appointment, he also asked if he could do a certain cut he thought would look good, and I said "go for it." I'm not the kind of client that has a specific vision in mind so I'm grateful when stylists use their expertise (but ask you.) Also, Michael explained that the dye he chose was less damaging and would be better suited for my hair, and he also recommended a few other products I should use. Some salons color your hair before they cut it, but I had a lot coming off, so Michael did a quick trim first. He cut it so quickly, I didn't even notice that my hair was suddenly 3-4 inches shorter until I glanced behind me and saw the floor littered with my split ends. Seriously, think this man might be some kind of ninja. When it came time to process the color, Michael asked me if I wanted to sit outside. This was the most unexpected delight of the evening. It turns out, they set up a little outdoor area with gravel, chairs, shade umbrellas, and even a fountain to work with COVID restrictions last year, and decided to bring it back this year. This was such a lovely surprise, and made for an unparalleled hair appointment experience. I don't get outside as much as I'd like to, so I appreciated getting a minute to sit in the sun. Granted, the neighbors were playing loud music so it was not perhaps quite as serene as expected, but I didn't mind so much. Throughout the visit Michael was very nice, as was the rest of the staff. My hair came out nice and the price was very reasonable. In fact, it was like reverse sticker shock-- I was actually surprised at how inexpensive it was. As someone with long hair, I tend to get charged more for these services-- I think because most stylists tend to do color first. Both the inside and outside areas of the salon were beautiful. Definitely recommend this one-- especially in the warm months when you can catch a little sunshine while your hair sets!

I apologized again and again and told her it was a technical error, and she keeps repeating her frustration at me, while she's laying into me, she uses severe heat and pulls at my roots. This salon clearly does not care about that. First off, no one ever answers the phone. There is no way to get a hold of the owner, and communication is non-existent. My stylist, Lucky, already canceled on me in December for a funeral, which I understood. But then in January, I rescheduled for a Wednesday, and a day later, I saw my appointment was changed in the system without anyone even telling me. When I finally got a hold of her, she said she was "on a movie set." I had specifically picked "Any Staff" when I booked so that I wouldn't have to deal with one person's schedule, so why was I being told I couldn't be seen? If you're busy on a movie set, you shouldn't be taking bookings from the public. When she finally "fitted me in" at 7 PM, the whole thing was half-assed and rushed. I didn't even get to pick my own glaze color; she just did whatever. I told her I was happy to finally get my split ends under control, and she just dismissed me and said, "everyone has split ends." I go to a salon for the experience and to feel seen, but I felt like I was just a nuisance she was trying to hurry up and finish. To make it even worse, my partner's appointment was also canceled last minute because the other stylist didn't have a babysitter. It's just constant excuses here. Then, when it was finally time to go, Lucky didn't even seem to know how to collect the payment. It was so disorganized and awkward. I still gave a 15% tip because I'm a responsible person and I value labor, but honestly, I feel like I was bamboozled. I could have stayed home and done the glaze and the cut myself for way less money and zero headache. I'm done with professional salons if this is how they treat people. I won't be back.
