We banked with Mountain Credit Union (Fletcher office) for over 30 years, but that ended the day…read moreone of the tellers at the Waynesville branch called my husband a "dumb a$$" on the phone. He was "conveniently" disconnected immediately after that remark. Then she called back and had the nerve to deny ever calling him that. He had her on speaker phone and I heard her call him that name as well. We will not give our business to a bank that treats their customers that way!! We happily went to TD Bank the very next day.

Beware of Mountain Credit Union We moved to Franklin, NC…read morelate last year to join our son who had a job here. We bought a house on Town Mountain together. This spring we decided we wanted to set up accounts with a local bank or credit union. Mountain Credit Union was just down the hill, was a nice facility and staffed with seemingly nice people so we set up saving and checking accounts with them. We also wanted to get a loan to consolidate some of our debt to make it easier to pay each month. We were given an application and over the next 6 weeks we gathered all the documents they required and had to do some title adjustments which cost us some money, and they said they had to hold a chunk of money for a credit check or appraisal, or both, I'm not sure. We called them last week to see what the status of our loan was, and they said it was "tied up in Underwriting" but they should know something next week. Today we got a call from them telling us our loan was not approved. I asked why that was and she said it was because we "have not been living here for two years." That being so, why did they even give us a loan application, or send it to "Underwriting?" They wasted 6 weeks of our time, caused a hit on our credit rating, cost us money in the process of getting all their paperwork together when they knew from day one that we had just moved here. Well, I've never seen very many cars there so now I know why. I don't know if it was a scam or just gross incompetence, but I don't think they deserve any star. Hopefully there is a more trustworthy financial institution here somewhere.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience earned one…read more I went into this branch to cash a check that was written to me by one of their own customers. Since the funds were coming from an account at their bank, I politely asked if they would consider waiving the $10 check-cashing fee as a courtesy. I wasn't demanding anything--just asking. The branch manager, Bonnie (if I have the name correct), was dismissive and came across as rude from the start. Rather than simply saying, "I'm sorry, we can't waive the fee," I was told that I should have an account there. That's an odd response considering the nearest branch is about an hour and a half away from me. What makes that comment even more frustrating is that I actually used to have an account with this very branch. I closed it after the bank made an error that cost me money. So being told I "should have an account" felt especially tone-deaf. This review isn't really about the $10. Businesses have policies, and I understand that. It's about how customers are treated. A little professionalism, courtesy, or even basic empathy goes a long way. Instead, I left feeling like I was inconveniencing them simply by walking through the door. If this is how they treat people who are simply trying to cash a check drawn on one of their own accounts, I can't recommend doing business with this branch.
