Petrakis Dental is Astoria's best kept secret!! I don't write reviews often, but I would be doing…read morethe community a huge disservice if I did not let everyone know all about my amazing experience here! I just completed my two-year Invisalign journey with Dr. Stamatina, and my results are beyond what I could have ever imagined. I have truly hated my teeth my entire life and have always been especially self-conscious about my bottom teeth. When I first reached out to Petrakis Dental, I was interested in hearing about veneers for a quick, easy fix. Dr. Stamatina strongly advised against this and suggested that I take a less aggressive (and cheaper) approach with orthodontics so that I could preserve the health of my natural teeth. Since some of my bottom teeth were oddly shaped, I was a little concerned about what the end result would look like even with Invisalign, but Dr. Stamatina assured me that most of what I wanted to achieve esthetically could be done with ortho, and that once my teeth were straight, anything that I wanted fine-tuned she would be able to do with composite bonding. Two years later and I cannot believe these are my teeth! I love them. I loved my whole experience! This is the best decision I have ever made, and the photos really speak for themselves. The only reason why I was able to fully trust in this process head-on was because I knew that I could fully trust my dentist. I truly felt listened to and cared for throughout this entire journey. I asked so many questions and was given a thorough rundown about all of my concerns every single time. Petrakis Dental is truly an integral part of the community, and its places like this that make Astoria feel so special. I hope we never lose places like this; we need them! You will not regret going here. I would write more but there is a character limit. To sum it up, Petrakis Dental is THE BEST dental office in NEW YORK. Thank you Dr. Stamatina, Dr. Irene, and Ana for everything and more!

This was a little rough to be honest. I came here as a new patient at the recommendation of a…read morefriend for a cleaning, X-rays and an exam. I arrived at 11 for my 11:15 appointment since I was told to come earlier for X-rays and paperwork. Around 40 minutes later I was finally called in and taken for X-rays. This part was relatively quick and painless, but the cleaning process was rough and not as thorough as other dentists I've been to. Typically my old hygienist would examine my mouth, tongue and thyroid for any cancer signs, measure my gum recession with a tool, then clean thoroughly using a buffing tool, water pick, metal scraper, and toothbrush, communicating with me at each step of the way. This hygienist started blasting water through my bottom teeth and didn't notice how soaked my shirt was getting until I asked him to stop. He barely scraped anything off my teeth aside from that and gave it a quick brush with an electric toothbrush. He explained that the reason he was using so much water was because my teeth are tight and had tarter build up he was trying to blast, which would've been nice to know during the process. The dentist took a quick look at my teeth and X-rays and said everything looked fine, something else I'm not used to. My old dentist uses a tool that beeps to detect small cavities before they turn large. I probably won't return here and will keep looking for a better dentist in the area.

I have dental anxiety but all the staff put me at ease. Dr Chen was very kind and took the time to…read moreprovide gentle education rather than reprimand or shame. I'm couldn't be happier with my experience here!

My review is about one appointment with a Dr. Wayne Seid who was my dentist at the Astoria/Ditmars…read morelocation. My appointment was for a cleaning and x-rays. I met with 3 people - first the dental hygienist, young-ish male/30s, then Seid, followed by the third person - the business manager. The dental HYGIENIST took x-rays, then told me that I had gum disease and needed Laser treatment ("LANAP"), he said my front teeth were a little loose, that my x-ray showed severe problems with bone lose (below gum line) and therefore problems required immediate laser treatment. (NOTE: Laser treatment CAN cause the bone mass (root) to grow back.) The DENTIST and BUSINESS MANAGER repeated the same stuff including that if you lose a tooth it can effect your health (heart attacks.....). I asked about less expensive treatment - SCALING - where the gums are pulled down so the area below the gum line can be cleaned after injecting anaethesia into the gums. Seid said - can't do it. The dentist, SEID, wanted to start treatment that same day which I found suspicious. The laser treatment was $8,000 ($2,000 per quadrant) and although they submitted to my insurance immediately, and told me my insurance would cover it, MY INSURANCE WOULD NOT COVER THE TREATMENT. I later confirmed this. The BIZ. MGR. told me that if I didn't have the money, a third-party company would pay PROHEALTH DENTAL, and then I would pay the third-party company. WARNING - NEVER ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!!! because if you fall behind on payments (and depending on how the contract is written) the company could add late fees.... This is a unethical practice (in my mind) that more trusting patients or patients who don't understand english as well as native English speakers. Finally I went for a SECOND OPINION to a reputable dentist, Dr. Jonathan Richter of Oasis Dentistry (UWS in Manhattan) who recommended a much less expensive option, "scaling" described above, which was a fraction of the $8,000. He is an amazing, warm, kind, & honest dentist with amazing educational credentials, who explains the available options in plain english, possible outcomes and lets you decide. Dr. Richter said the scaling can help some of the bone loss to grow back and if it didn't work there were other options including laser. But it didn't make sense to start with the most expensive treatment, because after paying $8,000 you might not have money for other treatment(s) if the laser treatment was not satisfactory.

Terrible experience ever. Was in pain for a couple of days couldn't contact the dentist now I find…read moreout that there is a cyst where the Dr. @prohealth did the bone graph...hence all the pain. I will never go back. Thanks Dr. Seid for all the pain and extra cost to remove the cyst. Plus the receptionist are unfriendly.
