If there were a ZERO option, it would be selected!!
I sold a home 2 weeks prior to buying my new home (the First Am Title transaction), which was handled by Placier Title. The difference between Placer and First American was like night and day. Placer communicated continuously throughout the process and I was aware what the closing date was 2 weeks in advance to plan my next move. They ended up closing a day early, but I was made aware of that about 5 days prior. First American did not communicate with me at all. When I had questions, they treated me like I was crazy and it was a hassle. Upon signing my docs, I had to wait to receive keys because their office was closed on a Friday. I would think that they could make arrangements to get the papers signed a day earlier or have someone come in briefly to complete the transaction so I could move on Friday and not have to wait until Monday. Even when I contacted them on Monday to check the status, they were not helpful and simply told me that they were waiting for the bank and needed the wire by noon to finalize it on Monday. I asked that I get a call back before noon to advise me if I needed to contact my agent/bank for action and she replied that she would contact my agent. If there was ANY way that I could withhold my payment to First American Title, believe me, I would. The service and communication were consistently horrible and I am not sure how they have any repeat customers. They hold people's lives in their hands and yet their schedule and communication are ambiguous, non committal and lacking. How do they expect people to plan a move with this action? I had to reschedule city and PGE three times. Recommend them, directly the opposite. I will shout from the roof tops how horrible they are and recommend Placer to everyone I interact with. read more
