My experience with South Story has been summed up by terrible service and ineptitude. I currently…read morelive abroad, and my problems with this bank have only increased while I've abroad, but I had similar problems when I lived in the US as well. They frequently block withdrawals both in the US and abroad even when I warn them that I will be making such a withdrawal and need to increase my withdrawal limit. Most recently they blocked a withdrawal I was attempting to make to pay a deposit for housing. Despite a warning that this withdrawal would occur, and multiple phone calls in which the bank confirmed they would allow the payment to go through, South Story continued to block the withdrawal. I spent 10 hours of my day on this just to end up unable to make the withdrawal despite all the calls in which they stated they were processing the withdrawal right then. Eventually I gave up and paid a cash advance fee on my credit card in order to get the money I needed. However, thanks to South Story, I will now be late paying my housing deposit and may lose the housing I reserved. I can't overstate how much trouble South Story has caused me and would advise anyone looking for a bank to look elsewhere. Not helpful, poor communication, and apparently the staff lie about what actions they are taking to assist you. I will be so relieved when I am able to close this account.
