    Pickles dry aged.

I was certain I had already written a review for Pickles, but I must have lost it. Anyway, I love burgers, I really do and it's great that there are so many vegetarian (gourmet!) options nowadays. However, Pickles does not quite live up to my burger love. Things I did love: the shoestring rosemary "fries" (seriously, their called chips), our wonderfully friendly server and the interior design. Things I didn't love: the pricing and also my burger. It wasn't that it was a bad burger or anything, it was fine but fine is not what I want from a burger. What I want from a burger is that even as I've finished eating and couldn't possibly stuff another bite in my mouth, I still get that same excited feeling as when I first lay eyes on my burger. For me, looking at or even thinking of a burger makes me happy, excited and hungry immediately. A great burger still gives me this feeling when I think about it while I'm already so full that I could explode. Pickles did not do that for me. I ordered the Kumera sweet potato burger and of course expected it to taste like sweet potato. It did not. The patty had no flavour and I actually had to put ketchup on my burger, I NEVER put a sauce on my burger. If sauce would have been intended for the burger, the chef would have put it on there. But anyway, all in all Pickles was fine and I'm planning on trying it again with le boyfriend as he hasn't been yet, but I'm keeping my expectations low next time and will always keep in mind that a GREAT burger is just a short walk away at Meneer Smakers.

I just loooooove burgers :) Good thing is, this place has a lot of them :) Came here on a friday evening and even without reservation we could sit down right away. After ordering a coke as my drink (still had to drive), I got the question whether I wanted pepsi or some german version. Decided to try out the german coke version and actually was really nice and I can really recommend it! The burger itself was just great, with some nice pickles on it. Decided to go for the burger with the BBQ sauce and was very happy with that choice!

Restaurant Vintage - Vintage Platters Choice of fish, meat, vegetarian or mixed. From 2 people: Luxury platter: €19.95 p.p.

The Drieharingstraat doesn't stop to be one of the most attractive streets to eat out in Utrecht…read more This time we were in Vintage Tapasbar & Wine and really liked it, but unfortunately not everything was perfect. Let's start with good though. The food was mainly delicious, we took Vintage Tapas Plateau and Garlic bread. I like to order restaurants' special plates, because most of the times it gives you an idea of the food in general. Vintage Plateau is pretty big and the price is democratic (€9,95 p/p). Our Plateau consisted of a carpaccio (really decent), bruschetta with pesto, avocado and tomatoes (average good), mini burgers from wagyu beef (fingerpicking!), shrimp croquettes (quite mediocre), filo and goat cheese roll (tasty, but too fat and, funny to say, too cheesy) and marinated salmon (really gentle taste, delicious). The carpaccio, burgers and salmon were my favourite. Warm garlic bread was fragrant and melted on the tongue. Wine cart is rich, but, for my liking, it lacks New World wines a bit. There are lot's of French wines, which in my mind don't really go with tapas, even though Vintage's tapas are not necessarily Spanish style. I really liked the interior and the personnel was friendly (especially the girl waitresses). For the disappointing part I must say that it seems to me that in Vintage they care more about serving and squeezing in as much people as possible, rather than paying attention to the customers and keep them in the restaurant a little longer. We ordered a bottle of wine, which they forgot to bring and only remembered to take our second drink order when we were almost finished with the food. By this time we decided just to follow up with another glass of wine and cancelled the bottle. Well, restaurants's loss.. It's also awfully difficult to find a table, so keep in mind to make a reservation before you come. We didn't do one and we were lucky to be seated after half an hour waiting. Unfortunately we had a table in the back, where it feels too crowded and noisy, as they squeezed 8 tables in what seems 3x3m (or less) space. In the end, I must say that we enjoyed Vintage Tapasbar & Wine, will definitely come again, but more for a quick bite than relaxing dinner out. Het Muzieklokaal - The 'podium' with a grand piano

    Het Muzieklokaal

    (1 review)

Het Muzieklokaal is a music café in Utrecht that I heard about when it opened just over a year ago…read moreand finally had the chance to visit. Such a cool idea, it's a normal enough cafe but then with a grand piano in the middle. Why? Because they regularly have performances here by musicians and ensembles! I came on Sunday, where their regularly scheduled classical music hour happens from 16.00 to 17.00. My excuse for coming was that an old friend of mine was playing, but I was also curious to see the café. It was very busy but the waitstaff quickly came and took my order at my table. It took a while for my coffee to arrive but it was fine. A little before 16.00 the musicians appeared and started to tune their instruments. When they were ready to play the proprietor whistled to get everyone's attention and introduced the artists. The concert is in principle 2x20 mins with a 20 min pause in between. During the concert everyone stayed silent and listened (or continued to work on their computers) and the staff came around with drink orders for anything except coffee or tea - because the coffee machine makes too much sound to use during the concert! Overall I found the atmosphere really nice. I was really impressed how attentive the audience was, and it's such a nice relaxed and informal atmosphere to experience classical music in. Families came with their small children so they could look at the instruments close up, university students took a break from writing papers to listen to Bach, and there were quite a few people who came specifically for the concert. They have all sorts of concerts and activities so I highly recommend checking out the agenda on their website. But if you love music, coffee, and cocktails, then this is your place!!!!!
