Tires are expensive but ultimately out off all the auto places Firestone had the best deals. I scheduled an appointment for 9 AM Saturday Morning and upon getting to the store I was told that my car wouldn't be done until the end of the day. I was a bit shocked and I had no choice but to agree because my car did need the tires and I was already there. The website when I made my appointment said the tires were already in stock and I was good to go (if there is a problem with your reservation they should contact you, otherwise they approve the reservation and you get the email confirmation). Upon arrival I was told they'd have to go to another store to grab the tires. Hence the reason my car wouldn't be done until end of business day. I decided to hit the gym about 10 minutes away and then I walked back to a Starbucks next to the Firestone. My car was already on the lift with the tires taken off. I was extremely impressed, I already had called for a ride back to my house. I thought I'd get a phone call within the next hour which I did, but it was to tell me that they broke one of my TPMS sensors and they replaced it on the house. About 3 hours after that my car was finished. I was extremely happy because my car is driving better. About 20 minutes after I left, my TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) light comes on. I never had this light on my dashboard besides low tire pressure every once in a blue moon. I decided to do some research and my car isn't a model that can just reset/initialize the calibration. I did check tire pressure and they were all good. I called back to Firestone and they said bring your car back and we can take a look. They realized they did not calibrate and said it would be easy. Their tool was defective and they assured me another Firestone can do it in the area. I've now been to 7 different firestones in the area and have had no luck getting it recalibrated. My frustration is what is giving this 3 stars, not necessarily the location because they did try to fix the problem, but they didn't have a working TPMS calibration tool & none of the firestones around were willing to help. Not one of them were able to help me. Either the shop is short staffed, their TPMS calibration tool hasn't been updated, or their tool is defective. When I went back to my original location the technician took his calibration tool out scanned all 4 sensors on my car and tried the installation. This was all under 5 minutes but other locations are telling me it's going to be 2-3 day turnaround and I can leave my vehicle with them. I have reached out to customer service at Firestone and received a phone call as I am writing this review. The store manager has contacted me and I am hoping this will fix my problem. This Firestone will rob you blind if you let them. The tire light came on on my mom's Nissan and she brought it here to have them fill it, which they did. She left and drove home, and the tire light never went off so she brought it back the next day they told her the sensorS in her TMPS system were bad and charged her $828 to replace all four sensors. We took the car in there the other day as it has lost air pressure and was driving strange. They charged $10 to put the car on the lift and look at everything, but the tire light was still on and would not go out. I took her car to NTB the next day and told them about the experience with Firestone. They thought it was very odd and highly unlikely that all four sensors would go at the same time, which is exactly what I thought. Women and older folks beware! read more

Once again had fantastic service at the Kemps River location. I filled my tires up myself at Harris Teeter and I had new tire covers on. Well I suppose I didn't put them on properly and I was loosing are rapidly. I almost didn't make it there and I wish I remembered the mechanic who helped me, but it was the same one from my other review on the dead animal. Well he was so nice and made sure my tire was filled up properly. I just had my inspection done in April as well and used my Life Time front end Alignment I purchased. Each time I go all the workers are so nice and always treat me great, I never feel like they are pressuring me for any extra services that are unnecessary. I took my vehicle in for an inspection, they said the right headlight was slightly out of alignment & wanted to charge me $35 to adjust it (it's a simple turn of a screw driver), they also had two other things they "recommended" I get done. Good customer service to me would've been if they had simply made the adjustment & passed it but instead I had them fail it & I got it taken care of somewhere else at no cost. needless to say I will not go back, ever. read more

Thank you so much to all the workers today October 17th 2023 that were working at the Kemps River Firestone. I stopped in because there was this awful smell coming from my car and I didn't know if it was something electrical or something that could catch on fire. They immediately came out and looked at my car come to find out it was a dead rodent that was up inside my engine. They removed it for me and tossed it away. I came here for a simple $20 vehicle inspection. My car was in good condition and checked all the boxes for the inspection. The technician who inspected the vehicle told the salesman who was working with me that the passenger side front strut was broken, but did not impact drivability. He also said I had corrosion on my battery terminals and should invest in a new battery. I declined their $1,300 upsell attempt and returned home for my own inspection. The strut was not broken, and the "corrosion" on the battery terminals was a fine coating of dust that was on everything under the hood. These salesman are greasy and unethical. I can only imagine how often they coerce gullible, non-mechanically inclined individuals into unnecessary repairs. I couldn't be happier with my experience. When I walked in I KNEW UP FRONT that my alignment might not get done until around 6pm. So I went over to Starbucks and waited many hours BUT again I knew that ahead of time. The girl who helped me at the desk even came over to Starbucks to talk to me about findings during the inspection. The manager who helped me behind the counter was amazing. I never felt like I was being forced or swindled. Now let's talk about state inspections. Yes, I had my car inspected here and yes it failed. Here's the thing--MY CAR failing inspection is NOT THE FAULT of the repair shop. It's a 15 year old car and only 1 thing needed repair. I wish every Virginian had to bring their car to Firestone for inspection bc I feel safer knowing that literally everything was checked twice. I knew that this part was going to fail soon--just based on mileage so it wasn't a surprise. The gentleman Carl suggested another item for replacement that was not mandatory for my inspection. This windshield wiper part was not a surprise to me because I knew it was going bad. So no I never felt swindled or pushed into sales. Read the negative reviews before choosing not to come here. Stay away if you're trying to get a state inspection done. Arrived at 7:30am(opened at 7am). Told if I left my car, it would be done sometime "Tomorrow"..... I commented asking why so long and manager said because it was first come, first served for an inspection. I then asked how long it took for each inspection because there was only(I counted driving in) 11 cars in the lot. He wouldn't answer. I then went to the Firestone on S. I brought my vehicle here for a state inspection, and the lady rattled off about 8 different things that needed to be done, and about 4 that "absolutely" needed to be done totally around $5000.00. I made an appointment for an oil change. 1 1/2 hour later I was still waiting for my car to be taken back. I got my keys and left. I called the dealership to see if I could get an appointment. I did and found out the oil change at the dealership would be almost $40 less. I don't understand why they even make appointments if they can't get to you in a timely manne. read more

Not sure why other reviews were so bad. I pulled in for an emergency tire failure on my boat trailer and the we're very attentive. Justin the manager drove to norfolk to get my tires since it would not make the 2:00 delivery deadline. The trailer tires were old school solid rubber so they had to saw through the tires to remove. He changed the tires and even tightens the hubs. I'm sure that very few tire shops would have gone the extra mile on a holiday weekend. Thank you. read more

The issue has nothing to do with the degree of service. what it does reflect is a lack of honesty and integrity. I dropped my car off for service yesterday and picked it up today. I had a very nice custom key ring that some asshole of a thief decided they had to take. Not too hard to figure out, it was either the person doing the paperwork at the front desk, or the person working on my car. The fact that someone decided to steal something as simple as a well made keychain makes you wonder what else is being stolen, how often, and at what cost to us, the customers. To think that an employee took the time to unscrew a bolt in order to remove my key fob while supposedly doing the required work on my car makes you wonder just who is doing the stealing, who is aware of the stealing take place, and who condones it? A national chain that has an issue with theft of customers property makes you wonder just how much is tolerated, and to what degree, and are they truly deserving of our business? read more

My car had been done for 3 hours and in stead of calling me to let me know it was done the decided to just park it outside and do a BS shop meeting and close early. All I needed was a alignment but this is definitely the last time I'm doing business here. I would give them a one star review but they at least did what I asked. read more

I haven't been to a Firestone in a very long time since a bad experience I had (i don't quite remember the incident but I vowed never to come here). Anyway, I was looking for a place to take my car for a quick repair (car made a whining noise and battery light lit up leading me to suspect a bad alternator). I looked online and found they were BBB accredited. I called to see if they could fit me in today to get my alternator replaced. They said they can possibly complete it today but no later than tomorrow morning. So I bring my car in and asked to get my alternator replaced. He asked if I'm sure that's what the problem is. He said they can do an electrical check to make sure. I told him I'm positive that was the problem (previous experience with another car) but I agreed to get it fully checked out just in case. He again said if it's just the alternator they may be able to have my car ready by the end of the day or tomorrow morning at the latest. He said they would call me today either way. Oh and they had hot dogs and burgers on the grill today with sodas so I had a hot dog before I left :). Later in the day I got a call letting me know my alternator was failing because there was oil leaking from the valve cover gasket. He explained their proposal to replace the alternator and the valve cover gasket as well as replace the 5 year old battery. I agreed and he said they should be able to get it done by the end of the day but no later than tomorrow morning. I was not expecting to have the car back until the following morning so to my surprise I got a call about an hour before they closed telling me the car was ready! And to boot he said he would apply some coupons to reduce the original quote by $30. Sweet! read more

The staff here is great and I have trust in this shop! Everyone here is very knowledgeable and can answer any question you have. The biggest help is if you are curious about what they are trying to explain to you, they will take you out the your vehicle in the shop and show you so that way you clearly know why they are making recommendations and for what. Also, it is hard to find automotive shops that are female friendly and I can comfortably say that this location is! I will be returning again and again, oh, and the military discount is nice too! read more

After having my car in the garage it took them an hour to change my oil. I waited 30min before they put my car in the garage. I would have changed my oil myself if I had the time. I ordered tires from Tire Rack and had them shipped here for installation. Setting up an appointment and getting them installed was easy! Later my TPMS sensor went out so I called to ask about pricing. The service desk woman was incredibly cordial and when she found out I wasn't able to drop my car off as it's my only car, she managed to wiggle me into an already booked schedule. Not sure what the bad reviews are about but every time I've come here I've had excellent service and courteous staff. I have no problems recommending this shop to others. read more

i will never, ever go to this location ever again in life!!!!every time i go there's always someone new working up front so they don't get to know their customers and they're so slow when it comes to doing the simplest thing like an oil change. this last time takes the cake. i told them my car was misfiring, and shaking when i drove it and may need a tune up and spark plugs and they ran with that and instaled the new spark plugs and i still have the same problem. what kind of repair shop doesn't see what actually needs to be done before starting a repair??? and then charge $300.00!!! i had to go to the dealer to get the real problem fixed for $600.00!!!! they say you get what you pay for so i won't be going back!!!!!! read more

This shop has very poor customer service. In the past they recommended service I did not need, as verified by another mechanic. Yesterday I made an appointment to have a leaky tire fixed. I waited an hour and fifteen minutes. I inquired about the progress. They had not even started the work. I asked what the point in making an appointment was. The staff member at the desk put my paperwork in a blue envelope instead of red, so I was treated as a walk in. Really??? Someone needs to review this procedure. One of the only car repair places I'll go besides my dealer! No one at this one has ever tried to sell me or my grandmother things we don't need, or tell us there's a problem when there isn't. We've had that problem elsewhere quite a few times! The staff is extremely friendly and are always very nice! They explain things in a way that even knowing very little about cars you understand what the problem is and how bad it is. If you want a state inspection though, go in the middle of the month and get there as soon as they open or you'll be waiting until the next day. Only thing that kind of sucks is they only have synthetic and synthetic-blend oil. :/ read more

Very poor service, scheduled appointment for Friday @ 8am, when I arrived they did not have parts, dropped vehicle off sat morning@ 7am, went back at 6pm closing time, still hadn't done work, had to wait 45mins at which time found out they only changed tires and supposedly changed oil, did not do state inspection. I would recommend coming here only if you have deep pockets, don't care about getting ripped off, and/or have no other choice. Brought one of the cars in for inspection and alignment, and instead ended up $16 poorer with a rejection sticker and a quote of about $1000+ in "repairs" to pass, along with $1500+ more in "recommended" items on a car that's probably not even worth those amounts combined. Basically was (mis)diagnosed with problems needing to be "fixed" that had already been addressed and/or simply not true after I removed said parts to "fix" the problems. I never even had anything done with my car, and I'm giving them one star. I had heard great things about the shop, so I called a week ago to see if I could set up an appointment for a state inspection and some other maintenance. They stated that they don't set those appointments, and it was first come, first serve. I got up very early, and was at the shop 10 minutes before they opened, and was easily the first person there. When they opened, I explained what I needed, and the guy at the desk said he "might get to it today", but "there were at least 10 cars ahead of me". When I asked how that could happen, and what I was told, he told me "I don't know who you spoke to, but you didn't talk to me". When I also explained that I had taken time off of work based on the recommendations from the person I spoke to on the phone, he told me it wasn't his problem and he would do nothing for me.
