My $12 bowl of soup.
Lindsay N.

We have been here many times over the years but most recently we took my MiL there for lunch. We had a margarita pizza, burger and I ordered a cup of soup and small Caesar salad. With an 18% tip the total was $100! The lunch was average - certainly not worth that steep a price though. We only had one Diet Coke - no alcohol. The most shocking part though was the cup of soup I ordered was $12. It was literally a very tiny cup. We all stared at the tiny size of it and laughed. Nice service and food was 'fine' but i think we won't be going back again. The pricing is unsustainable and the dining room is an echo chamber.

I gave it a 4 star as I believe a 5 star should be saved for a truly exceptional experience and beyond just an almost exquisite culinary experience. Having said that my spouse and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner at the Fireside Grill. I heard good things about the overall atmosphere, service/hospitality which has greatly improved over the years. But it always comes down to the quality, taste and presentation of the meals. For me anyway. In that regard we were well pleased. Perhaps we were slightly disappointed by the menu selection, though they do make pizza too if that's your thing. The alcohol and wine selections were good and at fair prices. I'd say that portion sizes were on the smaller side which is typical for the more specialty top-chef type prepared meals. We had the Iron steak and pork belly/scallops. I'd rate them highly though the light gravy on the steak seemed a bit bulk-prepared. At least that was the impression my wife had. The steak itself was grilled to perfection. I loved my scallops -- so very tender as was the pork belly done perfectly. We declined desert as we didn't like the combinations of flavour, at least on the current menu. The restaurant has a number of upper and lower seating areas, some rather hall-like. My overall impression was that this venue accommodates larger groups and as such, was a less intimate setting than I expected. We were seated by a gas fired fireplace which was rather cozy so that worked in our favour. Our server was courteous and friendly. Food was brought to us in a timely manner considering it was a busy weekend evening. Patrons at the nearby bar were quiet and respectful. Parking was tight but just adequate with overflow parking available. There was a handicap entrance as well. The value proposition was reasonable for this day and age but I'd save the bookings for special occasions myself.

Shrimp and Scallop Linguini with gluten free pasta

As tourists in town and celebrating our first anniversary we were looking for a nice classy sit down dinner that would also be accommodating to my dietary restrictions. Everything in the city was booked so we found Fireside Grill and gave it a go. SO GOOD!! The environment of the old Tudor style hall is grand and feels fancy. The food is amazing. It's fresh, they have unique flavor combos, and they have gluten free pasta to substitute as needed! It was all so delicious, with good service, and friendly staff. The only recommendation I have is that they spruce up the bathroom. The fake flowers, cheap soap and warn dirt doors detract from the restaurant's ambiance.

Coffee was good and service was very friendly and they were patient. Sometimes short staffed and ordering can take a bit longer than usual but not bad at all since I wasn't in a hurry. Here's why: I was strongly scolded right off the bat because I did not wait to be seated, as the sign indicated. "OOops "my bad" Not only, was I scolded the waitress went ahead and gave the entire table A good talking to as well. We will not have rogue customers in this establishment was her message. "You must wait to be seated you can not just come in and take a table. It was a long lecture I will spare you all. She wanted to keep us in check. The poor birthday girl did not see it coming or understand why she was being scolded. Well, we did get through that but it was super uncomfortable and set a terrible tone for the lunch. I would have left if not for the Birthday girl' s Day would have been spoiled. Then the shock set in with the prices of the High tea it was 84$ for 2. Crazy expensive. But we went for high tea; so we bit the bullet and ordered it. The quality was subpar to say the least, the sausage rolls and quiche were tiny, the size of a quarter. The sandwiches where not tasty, dry bread and just average nothing special. The dessert offering was misery, 2 tiny pieces of store bought cake squares, Then the fruit 2 orange slices and apple slices and a slice of pineapple. The tea was nothing special. The scones were small and they gave a tiny bit of Devonshire cream and jam. I forgot to take pictures which was too bad. We've all been to nicer places Butchart Garden, White Heather and Abkazi Gardens all superior to this place. It outrageously overpriced. The server we had was fine. In my opinion there are much nicer places where quality of the high tea is much better. One other person in our party ordered crab cakes overpriced over cooked left her hungry. I found everything on the menu overpriced just a Ceaser Salad was $17, Med grill is far better food in this area and priced accordingly. Skip this place especially for high tea. As for the guard at the entrance lighten up on your customers, you could use some customer service training. Bravo you really spoiled our good vibes for the day. And you've just lost 4 locals who grew up in the area, shame; location is great that's it. Hope this helps out the next person Adrienne's Tea Garden there is lots of opportunity to get it right. Or change your name.

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE It's tough finding authentic Chinese…read morefood in Victoria, but Lee's puts out a decent offering that would be worth considering. It may be a hidden gem tucked away in Gordon Head! === 2. FOOD For this takeout order we tried... Shrimp Swirl Egg on Rice: As you can see in the pic, there's not a lot of swirl egg in there, but over the dish was pretty good without being too salty. Szechuan Green Beans: They were decent; good flavour, and in my (subjective) opinion, not too spicy. === 3. SERVICE It seems like one can converse in English or Chinese; the staff certainly spoke Chinese to each other even if most of the patrons were non-Chinese. They all wear masks - in a respectful manner per the Chinese culture. Service was reasonably quick. === 4. ENVIRONMENT Was this a western diner-style family restaurant before? I'm not sure, but it doesn't fit the typical Chinese restaurant stereotype. Dark interior with the old-school lights over the tables suggest it was perhaps an ABC Country restaurant or some other diner-ish establishment before. Regardless, those with wheelchairs and baby strollers can fit in just fine and parking is somewhat plentiful outside in the shopping complex lot.

Great Dim Sum, Squid and Crispy Chicken…read more We went for Sunday lunch and we were Not disappointed. The squid was really good, fresh, tasty and a big portion. It was a bit spicy and peppery but the spices were not too overwhelming. The Har Gaw and Sui Mai dim sum were really good too. The service was very attentive and the servers were friendly. We will definitely go back.
