    Veggie (small) modified
    Patrice I.

We have never had a bad experience here. The staff is ALWAYS friendly and accommodating. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The store is clean and inviting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Today's order was a quick on the run afternoon snack during a day of running errands. 1. Small meatball sub. Modified: easy (really easy) marinara sauce and add olives. It's a hit every time. 2. Small veggie sub. Modified: no lettuce, onion, tomato, mayo, mustard or Italian dressing. Basically the cold stuff...lol. I did however add extra of both the caramelized green bell peppers and onions. I would have added extra mushrooms if it was an option....I love mushrooms. Also added olives. This sandwich was toasted, so for that reason I didn't want to add any cold items. I think I made the right decision for myself. This sandwich was delicious. The 3 cheese combo of provolone, cheddar and Monterey jack cheeses melted perfectly over the caramelized veggies. I also added the Captain Sorenson's Datil Pepper Hot Sauce. It added that extra flavor that made this sandwich a compete success. This won't be the last time I order this. Firehouse is always a great choice.

One of my family's favorite sub sandwich places in the 805. I've tried many of their sandwiches and they all have been delicious. Recently I tried the Pepperoni Meatball sandwich and it's very good. The seasoning, sauce and amount of meat was just perfect. My wife who loves her veggies always gets the Veggie combo. It's the only veggie option on the menu but she loves it. It is a little more pricey compared to Subway, especially if you want a footlong size sandwich, but it's worth it. Every time I've gone there the staff has been great and the place is kept tidy and clean. If you are looking for a new sub place, Firehouse Subs is worth checking out!

This Firehouse Subs is great! I have been here several times now and it's always top notch! I don't live in the area but anytime I drive down the 101 I try to make a stop here. The service is great! The staff is always helpful too. This is definitely one of the top notch sub sandwich shops around! Give them a try. The subs are always tasty and fresh. Getting the app and earn points to get free food too!

New York Steamer. More East Orange than New York, really.

I'll be honest, I didn't even want to try this place. And I probably never would have if I didn't read Lea L's review. I like sandwiches, but I'm not really a big of a fan of sub sandwiches. And besides, when I do feel like having a sub, I just hit up Jersey Mike's, which is closer to my house than Firehouse. I saw no need to try this place. But then I read Lea's review and I liked what I read. In particular the part about how Firehouse has a discounted price on a different featured sub every day. I love discounted prices. I mean, who doesn't? Then I read the part about "for a limited time," and I said to myself, Mikey, you gotta get in on this! So I made my move. I rolled in on a Thursday. I looked at the menu and discovered the Thursday Special sub was Spicy Cajun Chicken. That didn't sound appealing to me at all. I noticed the Wednesday Special sub was the New York Steamer. That's way more like what I was interested in ordering. But I was a day late. If I wanted a NY Steamer I was going to have to pay full price. Dammit, I hate when that happens. I couldn't stand having to pay $10.49 for a sub that was $8.49 the day before, so I decided to order a Small NY Steamer ($6.49). (The discounted subs are Mediums, $8.49). I also asked them to make it with all pastrami instead of pastrami/corned beef, because I'm not into two meats on my sandwich, unless bacon is one of those meats. When I told the cashier I wanted the Small size sub I noticed her sizing me up. She looked skeptical. Small?, she very politely asked. I nodded and said, Yes, small, please. She paused for a minute, I would imagine because fat guys don't typically order the small size. Then she smiled ever so nicely and said, OK, I just want to be sure, you know, because a Small is, well, kinda small. I thanked her and confirmed my order. I'll tell you, I was impressed by her customer service skills. I could tell she didn't want me to be disappointed with my order. No one want to deal with an angry fat man. Just a few minutes later my sandwich was ready. I took about a dozen photos and a couple videos. Then a few more photos. Then I picked up the sandwich and took some photos like I was feeding the camera. I'm not OCD or anything. When I was sure I had plenty of photos I got busy with the sandwich. Oh, let me tell you, this was my kinda sandwich. I absolutely loved it. And yeah, it was Small, but it wasn't too small. For the $6.49 price I think it's a good value. The sandwich came with a pickle. I love pickles. But this particular pickle not so much. This pickle was disheveled, It looked like it had been in someone's pants pocket for a couple days. Or like it had its ass kicked in street fight. The skin was the only thing holding it together, the innards were all soft and mushy, I never saw a worse looking pickle. I felt sad that a cucumber had to die to make this abomination. But, shoot, the sandwich was just fine without the pickle. I think the sandwich knew it needed to step up because the pickle was so weak. And the sandwich totally rose to the occasion. I left out of the place very satisfied. In fact, I was really happy to have another sandwich place so close to my house, even if they were sub sandwiches. I made a plan to visit again, on a Wednesday, so I can get me a Medium NY Steamer. A Medium for $8.49 is a stone cold bargain. That deal of for a limited time only, so if enjoy a discount as much as I do, don't sleep on this! Mikey C says: thanks, Lea! See you next Wednesday, Firehouse Subs!

I had an Italian sub on my last visit. Genoa salami, pepperoni, honey ham, melted provolone, Italian dressing... good stuff. Staff was friendly and the place was clean and bright. Prices aren't bad for what you get.

The $8.49 deal is now $9.29. It's less of a good deal and more of an effective 10% discount. Went on a Sunday and was planning to get the Italian sub for the discount- but since the discount isn't really much of a discount anymore I opted to get a Cajun chicken sub which I like better and was about $11 out the door. Service was good today, staff was polite and got my order correct. Restaurant is very clean as always.

The best subs around. Everything is fresh ... the place is clean... the service perfect. Kills subway, even Jersey Mikes.

Glad we have a Firehouse Subs in Ventura
    Lea L.

The 1st time I had Firehouse Subs was at Universal Studios CityWalk a few years ago. The closest Firehouse would of been in Simi Valley. A year ago I happened to be in Ventura and accidentally spotted this while driving by. Finally got to try this one off of Main Street near Target. They have a sign for "Daily Medium Sub" for a limited time. I thought, that's cool. That means I need to try different subs each day lol... Note: Medium Subs. Since it was Saturday, my bf & I shared a Medium Club on a Sub. We just wanted a quick bite to hold us off before dinner. So the medium sub was just right. If you're hungry the Medium would be okay. Unless you're starving, then by all means get the Large Sub. Each order comes with a dill pickle slice. Drinks, Chips etc are extra. We had good service while our order was taken at the counter. Plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. You seat yourself. We dined inside since other patrons were all outside. Also there's a TV & Guy Fieri was on, so of course I chose inside. Shortly after we got seated our food was ready. Then it became busy. We enjoyed our sandwich & left happy. Will be back to try more Subs :)

I had the Italian Sub and it was as good as any I've had elsewhere. There was no waiting to be served, although I did arrive well past the lunch business. I was able to upgrade the sandwich into a "meal" with a soft drink and bag of chips, for a total cost of $10.99! None of the chain sandwich shops could have matched that price for the sandwich alone. It's a simple place with great sandwiches and excellent prices. If that's good enough for you, by all means visit.

I had actually bookmarked Mastro's years ago and forgot all about it. This is a very no frills space located right on the corner - no inside seating but a couple round tables outside. Plenty of available street parking. There only appeared to be one woman working - she was a bit slow to greet me initially but had her back turned and I think may not have noticed I was there. She was happy to answer my questions and accommodating when making my sandwich. I opted for the italian sub but didn't want something very bread heavy so got the rye bread instead. While the rye bread was tasty, it was just Orowheat, which was disappointing to see all the breads were just sandwich bread you'd get in the store rather than home made or made by someone local. The sandwich itself had cheddar, provolone, bologna, salami, and capitola ham - all of which was very fresh. However, the amount of meat/cheese felt a bit minimal, especially when looking back at previous photos. For the very reasonable price though, l understand why maybe they cut down the amount of meat/cheese vs raise prices. Maybe add an option for double meat/cheese for an extra fee? It comes traditionally with mayo, mustard, italian dressing, lettuce, tomato, onion, peppercini but I just got lettuce, mayo, and italian dressing. Avocado was an optional add on for a reasonable $1 but because I had avocado at home I just added it at home. The sandwich itself was very tasty and enjoyable - I wish though instead of mayo and italian dressing they had used olive oil, vinegar, and oregano, which is more traditional and healthier. They also had potato salad and macaroni salad for only $2 - I got half and half and while they were both fine, nothing necessarily stood out about them. It was a nice little add on if you don't want chips. Speaking of chips, they had a very large selection of chips and bottle drinks. This wouldn't necessarily be my first stop if I am feeling very hungry, given that the sandwich felt pretty small (although I imagine on the sub roll it wouldve been a lot more filling). However, I will definitely be back if I am craving an inexpensive deli sandwich - it is hard to find lunch anywhere for under $10 and I appreciate that they keep the prices affordable. Seeing as they have been around for what appears to be 10+ years, I imagine they know their demographic and cater to that.
