About 6 months ago my band planned to rent a room in the NoHo facility, after a friend recommended…read moreit to me. He warned my about the property manager, Charles - that Charles is a weird guy and uncomfortable to be around, but you rarely have to be around him after the lease signing. Nothing could have prepared me for what happened next. We toured the facility once, we were with him for about 30 minutes. He spent about 20 of those minutes going on and on about how the bathrooms are so clean and theres cameras outside the bathrooms pointed at the door, so if one of us clogs the toilet and it overflows, he will know who to charge. I thought that was strange, and his energy was certainly that of a Joe Rogan-head stuffed to the gills with coke, but whatever - it was a cheap, clean room. A few days later, we are ready to sign the lease, I go to the bank for cashiers check, my bandmates take off work to meet at TK at 8:30pm (strange everyone needs to be there when only one person signs the lease, but whatever). We all arrive, Charles walks out and sees that our drummer has her TINY, elderly Chihuahua in her arms and he BUGS OUT. "YOU NEED TO LEAVE RIGHT NOW! NO ANIMALS ON THE PROPERTY!!" We assured him we would never have the dog at rehearsal, and the dog could safely stay in the car while we sign the lease. "NO! GET OUT NOW! I'M GOING TO CALL THE POLICE. DEAL IS OFF!" We were astonished and confused. We all went out of our way to be there that night, had the money, even had bank statements and we were chased off by this baboon of a man, foaming out the mouth because we broke a nonsense rule (no animals, even outside the facility, where stray cats are literally wandering around as we spoke) we had never even been told. Fast forward to tonight. The bassist in my band plays with several groups and we're all planning to move into a new shared space together. Note: our bassist was barely involved with the NoHo TK tour... he knew some coked-up psycho kicked us off the property, but didn't know his name or the company name. Anyway, he finds a spot in West LA that sounds amazing and sets up a tour. We all get there tonight (members of all three bands looking to share the space) and Charles pulls up. I'm thinking "damn it, this guy sucks, but whatever, its water under the bridge." At first he doesn't recognize the members of my band, everything is chill, but then he spots our drummer. Charles' overgrown toddler face turns from blank and dumb to rageful (and dumb). "You! I can't rent to you! You need to leave!" I don't care how many red bulls you drink while pounding lines to get psyched up enough to leave your house at 8pm - you don't talk to a woman the way he spoke to her - you don't talk to potential clients like that - you don't talk to anyone like that. She says "okay" and walks away to her car. 75% of the people there are so confused as to what just happened, so Charles goes on to claim that he can't rent to her because theres an ongoing lawsuit and lawyers are involved (lol, that is complete nonsense, wtf is he talking about). He then adds that he can't rent to any of the other bands because they KNOW her!!!!! THEN he looks at me, and the few remaining neurons in his neanderthal brain start firing. "AND YOU! YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T BE HERE! WHY THE F*** WOULD YOU COME HERE!" I'm like "how on Earth would I have known that YOU would be here!? Also, why would I assume that I'm banned from every building in LA you manage because my drummer had a small dog with her one time?" He then screamed at us to leave immediately. We gathered down by the street and I tried to give context to everyone unfamiliar with the situation. Charles then came back out, screamed more, claiming we can't even be across the street, I told him to call the cops, he went inside and never came back out while we stayed there and pondered what horrible private parts he must have been born with to make him the way he is. How he must have wanted to be a cop so much but probably failed the drug test. How he so desperately needs an outlet for his incel rage. Do not rent from any TK Rehearsal spaces. Save yourself from dealing with Charles unless you want to go troll him (please do, that would rule). How this man still has a job is beyond me. Maybe it's a family business, I don't know, but he is quite probably the worst salesman or spokesperson for any business ever. And he looks like an idiot.

I use TK rehearsal to practice with my jazz band and create music. As an artist with a #1 chart…read moretopping single, I only use facilities and management that are professional. The service spaces are clean and bathrooms are always very well kept by management and clientele. I'm not one to write reviews normally but I felt it was my duty as a client and Patron of the arts to give my own opinion and view considering what I just read about Charles in a few of these one star reviews. Charles is a true professional and a class act. A manager that cares about the clientele, and always goes beyond the call of duty to take care of us. If you want a professional rehearsal space, with a cool vibe that is safe, clean and well priced, TK Rehearsal is the place to be! Thank you Charles and TK Rehearsal for your musical hospitality. This is my personal go to spot now…read more The Neighborhood Watche is amazing in so many ways. I'd like to start with their professionalism. Nothing is left unsaid. Communication is very clear and they'll deliver whatever it is that you're looking to accomplish. When you book a session through their app, you'll see that it's very easy to navigate and find what you're looking for. Once you pay, the session is locked in and you'll have a parking spot with your name on it waiting for you to show. So So the plug is a great guy and he is a super dope and well connected individual. I worked with Nick White (mixedbywhite) both sessions and he is fast and we got on the same wave lengths immediately. He catered to my needs and delivered excellent quality. It's hard to gel with a new engineer and we didn't have any frustrating or miscommunication moments. In fact, we had fun and that's what this is supposed to be about. There's good energy infused into their walls and they set the bar when it comes to recording. I am from Memphis, the city known for music and I have to say, Neighborhood Watche is just as good as anywhere in the world. Come here if you want a good price and to work with nice and dope people. I prefer to record on Neumann microphones and they have the u87 in most of their rooms. I'll be back soon. Much love

    North Hollywood

I've worked in the music industry for 8 years (record labels, been on tour, music magazines... all…read moreof it), have dated famous musicians, and still maintain my friendships and contacts. This all means that I am VERY jaded to the industry and not much, at this point in life, impresses me. So, when something comes along that brightens even my cynical attitude; then it must be something special. That is precisely what the Alley Studios in North Hollywood is and 'special' is an understatement. The Alley Studios is located on the corner of Lankershim/Ostego in the epicenter of the North Hollywood Arts District. From the exterior, one would this is an abandoned building as it is somewhat run-down and there are no apparent windows anywhere. This unsuspecting facade pulls the wool over everyone's eyes as the Alley Studios is basically a legendary facility dripping with music industry history. So what exactly, IS, the Alley Studios? Imagine an incognito basement owned by the coolest punk rocker you know, marry it with a small bar-type intimate performance stage, melt it with a recording studio and creative space, and bake it to perfection with a lounge. The ending result is Alley Studios. When you first walk in from the front (front and back entrances are available), you will see a room to your left with an intimate stage area available for performances or events that transports you to the coolest bar/concert venue in the 70s/80s. Keep walking down the narrow hall to find a lounge-type room with bar and a lovely garden-esque back patio outdoor space. The Alley Studios also has a basement, recording studios, loft etc; available for artists. Basically, this IS the place for public performances or artists wanting to write and record music or just escape the outside world. Which is PRECISELY what happens in the Alley Studios. This spot has housed literally every single musical legend past and present be it recording or just hanging out. You name it and they have been there. Want some examples? The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Alice Cooper, Roseanne Cash, Sister Sledge, Tom Petty... even to Jack White, Fergie, Chili Peppers, etc and so forth. In fact, the back lounge rooms consist of white brick walls that all the artists have signed. The Alley Studios allows you to photograph these walls but signs proclaim that no touching is allowed. Again, I am RARELY impressed but something about the energy is overwhelmingly amazing which is probably because no one would suspect this small, hidden building to have such amazing history. I mean, did you know about this place? I didn't, and I live two minutes WALKING distance from it! I went to the Alley Studios for an album release performance/party and the staff from the door to the bar was very kind. No one was stuck-up and snooty which is the usual for Hollywood/LA venues and recording studios and even the staff seemed grateful to be involved with the facility. They happily explained the venue history and pointed out the big names on the brick walls. For those interested in the paranormal, the Alley Studios is supposedly haunted with many experiencing spirits or entities. Take that as you will. The Alley Studios is just drop-dead amazing. The history and energy of the place is riveting but with an humble, quiet air. I really hope that the Alley Studios starts to house more public performances so that people can learn about it and experience it for themselves. Apparently there is a book in the works that will be pitched to publishers about the background of the facility. So whether you are a musician seeking a creative/recording space or just a fan that can make it to a performance at Alley Studios; DO check it out!
