We waited maybe 10 minutes for a table on a Sunday afternoon. The service from everyone team member was friendly and prompt. The menu is extensive. We tried the catfish bites with a homemade dill forward tartar sauce and the fried green tomatoes with a spicy remoulade. They offer brunch on the weekends. We had pancakes, and biscuits and gravy. For the more savory palates, we ordered a burger, the ribeye, and the Capone. The burger was thick and juicy, the bun held up to all of the toppings. The ribeye sandwich is a full steak on a hoagie roll. The Boursin cheese made this a little too rich for me but an amazing sandwich nonetheless. The Capone is a burger interpretation of a parmigiana sandwich. Rich marinara, mozzarella cheese and grilled onions and mushrooms made for an amazing meal. We had a wonderful time. We plan to stop in again soon

The bar is very large so that's great. The tables in the back can be adjusted for large parties but the space next to them doesn't make it comfortable. The servers are quick and stay organized with their tables. I think the food is okay but it will always come out hot! I wish they would add more seasonings to their meals and perhaps more weekly specials.

You have a whiskey, bar lounge that probably the likes of General MacArthur would patronize for food and cigars like at the Historical Manila Hotel in Manila Philippines. Then you have the open dining room where you seat yourself and it was reminiscent to an Army Chow Hall...sort of with retro 80s decor. And lastly, I chose the Salad Bar room with a booth seating. Server Jessica was fantastic! Went through the standard protocols with me; I was really enjoying the vibes at this place. It's very Mahogany, 1960s - 1980s feeling, almost like that steakhouse Warren Buffet likes to go to in Omaha Nebraska. Very community family oriented, quiet, really quite different than any restaurant or diner you patronize in a city like Los Angeles. A lot of retired folk here and truly, you feel like you been thrown back in time to the 80s and early 90s in some sense. So anyways on to the food. I'm going to state my opinion straight up, the salad bar hot food bar is the star of the show. In fact everything from the soup to the oven potatoes to the COLESLAW (Best Coleslaw Ever), reminded me of that once upon a time Soup Plantation that died during Covid....and the best part is the Cold and hot bar is all-inclusive with your main entree order. Yes you heard that right, you buy the resort tickets, and you enjoy your stay with unlimited cocktails at Cancun...I mean Neimergs... Now to the Iowa Premium Rib Eye Steak. To the kitchen staff: 2 minutes on the top side, 2 minutes on the bottom side. Bake in oven 1 minute on both sides. Done. Medium Rare. A perfectly good steak was destroyed because it came out well done. To future passerbys, skip the baked potato loaded if you decide to dine in at the hot and cold bar room. Last thoughts. I want to give the steak a 3 stars but the overall ambiance, the grandpappy grandma vibes and that overall feel like your dining at someone's home in farm country really elevated the entire experience. Plus the servers are all working their tails off. So I've rated this place a 4 stars. Think anyone on a road trip, or just driving their rig through town should give this historical site a visit. 1978 right? Or something like that. This place also has some of the freshest greens.

The restaurant is fairly wheelchair accessible with everything being on one even level and there's plenty of accessible parking and close parking as Fujiyama is next to a few other stores sharing the parking lot.

Originally had other plans, like hitting up the NAF NAF for some Mediterranean food couple miles further. But haven't had any Bennihana style hibachi in ages, I did sort of crave the grilled veges, NY Steaks and hibachi butter fried rice. So got in here today, and it was pretty quiet. Wasn't even sure if there were any parties at the grill. Back in the days I use to work at a pretty high octane hibachi in the Permian Basin (ya, think Billy Bob Thornton in Landman on steroids). We'd have oil field crews pack our entire restaurant, and I'd be doing daily sales of 3,000.00 to 4,000.00 just under my own tab. Those were the days you can order a bowl of Udon noodles and it probably came out to 8.99--- good ole pre- inflation days. So onto the food here. Steak was over cooked, wanted medium rare, tasted well done. Chicken was decent, moist, not dried out. I've had hibachi chicken in certain restaurants where the meat was straight up dried. So good job. The fried rice was a 7/10. Not the best, but better than Panda Express. The grilled veges were alright, the teriyaki sauce was decent not too sweet. And overall the hibachi combo plate of NY Steak, Chicken w/ fried rice was overall a 7.5/10. I want to give a thumbs up to the restaurant for their portions. This being lunch hours, the lunch portion here can play out in many other places as dinner size. The Miso soup was your typical hot soup + instant dried seaweed + supermarket house brands tofu. Can't screw this dish up. And the salad was sugar overkill...along with the Yum Yum Sauce. What I wished they did with the Salad sauce. Okay, blend carrots, apples, increase ginger, couple slices of lemon, and cut down on the sugars. For the Yum Yum Sauce decrease the sugar, more garlic, and please add a tad bit more MSG for that flavor bomb. Now because I figured I might still be hungry, I ordered their 2 roll sushi lunch special-- the Bay bridge, and the Volcano. Sushi rolls were both pretty solid. The sushi chef here gets a 8/10 for his sushi rice making ability. I've seen complete failures at restaurants serving sushi where the rice isn't even cooked through. Worse I've had sushi rice that tasted like those Supermarket sushi franchises Snow Fox and Fuji Foods. Special mention: the wasabi is spicy. Very good. For a hibachi grill restaurant, this place is a solid 7/10. Is it worth walking over here if your semi truck is parked nearby? Yes. Is it worth a detour if you're on a road trip and don't want burgers and fries? Yes. Is it a nice setting to sit down and talk with your colleagues or watch their hibachi chefs perform? Sure. In the end, for price, portion, and just a no bs Japanese teppanyaki meal, I think Fujiyama can fill that void. Why the 3 Stars? because there's room to improve, food wise, like the fried rice: more white peppers, onions, garlic butter, soy sauce, scallions. To my Chinese passerbyers: 覺得路過的客人，可以過來關顧一下，整體食物質量管控還行，就是甜了一點；要是有哪位華人卡車師傅在附近停靠，過夜，我也還是會推薦過來這家日式鐵板試試，想當年羅蘭剛一家老字號的上林鐵板燒已經被蒙古餡餅給取代了，也就是抱有這種懷舊才使得我過來品一品這村莊的日式鐵板。

Happy to have had breakfast here before heading home after a long night of storms. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. Parking lot had ample parking. It was also nice they had tv's with the local news playing. After seeing the aftermath of Atticus, I'm glad we stopped and stayed in Effingham for the night.

The music was overwhelmingly loud for no reason at all, and there were THREE different TVs playing at almost max volume. I hope they fix this shit.

I am giving this establishment a 5 star review because from the moment I called to make reservations for our Anniversary Group to dessert, the staff and food could not have been more welcoming. Katie took my reservation and when I told her about our group of 6 couples wanting to observe our August Anniversaries at Firefly, she worked to insure that we would have a good first time experience beginning with our seating on the covered patio overlooking the lake. It did not disappoint for these first time visitors who traveled an hour and 15 minutes from Champaign-Urbana to meet with another couple traveling roughly the same distance from near St. Louis in Maryville. After seating, we were greeted by our waitress, Siobhan, who served to enhance our experience even before the first dish arrived. Now for the dish(es), not one thing was a disappointment for our large group who ordered everything from appetizers to drinks even the non-alcoholic drink recommended by Siobhan for me one of the designated drivers! She recommended the Aqua Fresca which was as refreshing as she said it would be, yet gave me the feel of a special drink. For appetizers, my husband and I ordered the flash fried shrimp with a cilantro aioli sauce which was delicious and a very generous serving, along with the jalapeño popper rangoons which were accompanied by a passion fruit purée which was pure deliciousness! For our meal, I ordered the pan roasted scallops with risotto and corn while my husband ordered the 14 oz ribeye with blue cheese on top, along with added mushrooms and onions which he pronounced tender and delicious although there was not a whole lot of talking going on. I especially like the sear on the scallops which gave it a crisp yet tender taste and the risotto with the added corn helped to round off the dish. For dessert, my husband ordered the peach cobbler with ice cream which he pronounced as good, but not quite like his mama's. I think that all of the portions were generous and enough to be shared. Others at the table ordered everything from pizza to Chilean Sea Bass which the husband said was the best fish he had ever eaten in his life and he and his wife are what I call "foodies." We as a group decided that the trip and travel was well worth it and we will not wait for an anniversary to return. This place was so unpretentious, yet one of the best food experiences I've ever had and I'm from Chicago and traveled and eaten in many fancy places. As we've shared this experience with friends and they ask what kind of restaurant is named Firefly Grill, yet gets such rave reviews? This was our first Anniversary Celebration as a group in over 3 years mostly due to the Pandemic and from start to finish this was a huge hit. The atmosphere created by Katie and the recommendations by our waitress Siobhan were spot on. Although I eat out a lot, I don't write many recommendations because it takes a lot to "move me" enough to do so. Although our bill was a bit pricier than I expected, we felt the overall experience was worth it. We are already planning a lunchtime girls' trip on a future visit to St. Louis. read more

I am a country girl at heart. Born and raised in the North Shore of Chicago, I still go weak in the knees at the sight of BBQ or sweet corn, etc. When my sweetheart drove me down to the middle of nowhere on my birthday and we got off the expressway to see Steak and Shakes and Ruby Tuesdays all around I was not expecting to get a flippin' gourmet meal. This place is beyond words cute and chic. It looks like a rehauled pole barn complete with tin roof, but the atmosphere from the hella-high ceilings and the menu is great. They grow some of their own produce, bake their own breads, fly in fish fresh, and make their own salad dressings. We were sat on the beautiful little porch on their little pond in the back complete with up-lighted ambiance. We ordered the portabello mushroom which was broiled with garlic, parmesan cheese, and escargot and served with a fresh crusty baguette. Then we had the fried green tomatoes which were perfect on their own. We each ordered the New York strip steak with garden salads and I had the sweet corn which came from a farm down the street. Our server, Larry, was prompt, and perfectly attentive to each detail and recommended the banana cake with cream cheese frosting and home-made banana ice-cream. When traveling on the road I always love to find unique restaurants with fantastic food. The hunt can be long but it is well worth it to put a little work into it and find those places to stop that truly feel like an oasis rather than just stopping to get a bite to eat. With plentiful parking and beautiful landscaping you'll pull up to a large rustic looking building. Once inside you are welcomed into a very large open space. My sister and I had the pleasure of dining at Firefly Grill in Effingham, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. The restaurant was packed so we were invited to sit at the bar, and we were warmly welcomed by two incredible bartenders, Tammy and Allison, who provided exceptional service. They were attentive, friendly, and added a personal touch that made the experience even more special. The atmosphere was perfect--inviting, cozy, and beautifully designed. It set the stage for an unforgettable meal. I ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked to absolute perfection, tender, and bursting with flavor. Every trip to Firefly Grill has been an experience to remember. The servers are always extremely friendly and happy to offer information about the dishes. My partner and I always plan on spending the entire evening here - starting with an appetizer or two, moving on to the entree, and then sharing one of their incredible desserts. The decor is sleek and modern. More ambient lighting would be a nice touch, and might make the space feel more intimate. It can be loud and crowded at times... But those are just minor quibbles - I've never had such wonderful, unique, freshly-prepared food outside of Chicago. It's a rare treat to have perfectly cooked buttery scallops served over risotto - and, in Effingham?! (I mean no offense to the people of Effingham!) One of the best!! read more

If you are in Effingham, you have plenty of options for affordable fare with Niemerg's being the best of the lot. However, if you are looking for an experience to remember, Firefly Grill fits the bill! This is a big city restaurant in a small town location. Don't be intimidated by the fancy ingredients in the dishes. Bottom line, this place serves incredibly tasty meals! I have always thought of myself as a meat and tater man, but I have never walked away hungry or disappointed from an evening at this gem. The servers are all very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. They are happy to answer any questions about some of the uncommon ingredients used. I will start with the positive . The food was fresh and tasty ! The service was fine ! I was let down on the size of the bone in ribeye for $60 . The steak in comparison to the same price of one in down town Chicago but not the same size big disappointment! They brought a bread plate to the table with 2 bites of garlic bread seriously 2 bites. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants! I love how most of their dishes taste so delicious. We just completed our annual trek from North Carolina to Illinois to visit relatives. Actually, visiting relatives is just an excuse to eat at the Firefly Grill as often as possible--at least once a day! Favorites for this year include the fried green tomatoes cooked to perfection, yummy salads, and the amazing lobster stew. We lived in Maine for 20 years and never had it so good--creamy and chocked full of lobster. Thank you Firefly for making our trip to Illinois such a culinary delight . This is the best restaurant in the world. This is the perfect place for a nice casual dinner with the family, or even for a fancy date night. The service is superb from the second you walk through the doors, from the second you walk out of the doors. Anything and everything on the menu is AMAZING. Off the beaten path and worth the journey - this was a night to remember. We had fresh oysters, fresh Dungeness Crab Salad, Fried Green Tomatoes from their on-site garden and a Locally Raised Pork Loin that was amazing. The service was great and the owners even came out to meet us and thank us for coming. We watched the sunset over their pond and had the chance to feed their fish. Phil was correct it is worth the road trip!!! Wow - we stumbled across firefly on our way up to Chicago - what a gem! Tucked away behind a line of cookie cutter chains, firefly is an oasis of food and beauty. We sat outside overlooking the pond (in-spite) of the heat. I had the Tombo Tuna flown in from Hawaii and my wife had the locally raised Pork Porterhouse. I went here for an engagement celebration. The server was great. He checked on us often and provided great insight on the menu that I was unsure of where to start. Made reservations here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were treated like "royalty" Our waitpersons, Blake and Sirus (sp), were excellent. I've been here in the past dinner and loved it,but my croque monsieur for lunch was REALLY tough.Thank God they brought out steak knives. Are croque monsieurs supposed to be tough? Maybe.Other than that,our server was fantastic so friendly and attentive! read more

I have to say the service, the atmosphere and the food we're top notch. Incredible that it is located in Effingham Illinois. The price is high, especially for this area but it makes for one of the best date spots around. read more

I ate dinner here last night, and I must say this is now my favorite restaurant. I had the center cut sirloin and my sweetie had the King Salmon. Worth every single penny. Very attentive staff and pretty good wine list. read more

I've dined elegantly as well as from street vendors and I have NEVER had service that was this off putting to the point of being overtly rude, and I am an American who has eaten in France and doesn't speak much French. When we wouldn't sit at the bar, even though the main area was only 1/4 occupied They moved our party of 2 into the side room with chairs up on tables. It went downhill from there. Due to this, it wasn't possible to really enjoy what should have been a fine meal. I will say it is a wise policy to ask for payment and tip ahead of this type of service before it is provided.
