It is by a Lake with a Beautiful water fountain and several of My Favorite Trees...Weeping Willows. There were even huge Fish swimming around in the Lake. It is quite picturesque! I had the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and thought it was not good- my wife had the Smash burger and did not like it. The fries were good. When we got the bill we noticed a 5% charge (service fee) so I asked the waiter what that was. They now charge a 5% fee that covers employees other than our waiter and for using a credit card. I ate there today. The food was average. Service was average to poor. For the prices they charge. Everything should be so much better. If you want to see a pretty facility, then it is an attractive restaurant. It seems to attract a nice clientele. We ate outside on the veranda, and that was pleasant. People bring their dogs and at couple tables The dogs were barking at each other, which I really didn't mind but upset other people. We had one burger, fries, an order of the truffle fries, bangers and mash, and the three soft shrimp buns. Truffle fries are as amazing as the fried green tomatoes. The burger was delicious. Perfect sear. Bangers locally sourced and really tasty. Shrimp were just okay. Deserts were brownie Sundae. Well done. Key Lime pie yummy but the Buffalo Trace ice cream was great to finish our meal. My husband and I took our dog on a road trip to go hiking and planned to stop here for dinner, since it has a dog-friendly patio. We had a wonderful experience! Went here for an early dinner on our way home from St. Louis. The restaurant has really nice ambiance and while the food is upscale, it's a casual atmosphere. (That said, dressing up wouldn't be out of place, either.) Almost everything we ordered was outstanding, with only one small disappointment with my entree. The appetizer we shared, the poutine, was flavorful and delicious, not drowning in gravy, and portioned well for two people without stuffing you before your main dish. The complimentary pretzel bread is the best pretzel bread I've had -- the freshly whipped butter and the flakes of salt added to the decadence. I ordered the Montana Mignon and went with the server's recommendation of cooking it medium. What I got was a rare piece of steak, which was too raw for me, and I was not able to eat most of it. (My husband likes rare meat, so he helped; I did not send it back.) The rest of my dish was outstanding, from the whipped potatoes, to the incredibly fresh green beans drizzled in butter, and the sauce and pastry surrounding the filet. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his seafood chowder, wedge salad, and shrimp cocktail. It's refreshing to find such fresh seafood in the Midwest. They supplied us a water bowl for our Bassett Hound and three different staff people stopped by to pet our dog. Just a quick update with some extra pics--the chicken piccata was delicious, albeit a big enough dish to feed 3 people. Same with the pappardelle pasta. Seating was a bit weird--they were busy and sat me at the back rail of the bar, which meant I only had about 18" of table, and was right up against the glass, but no big deal. Also the Caesar salad was good,, but I tasted mostly fresh garlic, and not much else.. Needed to taste a bit more lemon/acidity and anchovy. They're made to order, so I'm sure each one can be different. Still think this needs $$$ instead of $$ on Yelp. I mean, they have a $75 steak, for example. Possibly one of the swankiest places in Effingham, and the prices reflect it, but good for a special occasion, or whenever you want to spend a bit more on yourself. read more
