I think I've hired more professional photographers in the past 15 months than I have in my very…read morelong life. Ever since my daughter was born I'm all about the pics; she changes so much on a daily basis that I just want to document every second. I take tons of pictures with my not so fancy schmancy cannon camera, but it's hard to get a good pic of a toddler who is always on the move. And so I leave it to the professionals... I saw pics that Shannon had taken of my colleague's niece and nephew. I was in awe of her photography skillz and immediately bookmarked her blog so I'd remember to contact her for Baby R's next photo shoot. And I did just that for a few months later when Baby R was turning 15 months. Shannon informed me that she liked to take pictures in natural light. The Floridian in me was not going to take pictures outside in February so we decided to find another option with natural light: The Garfield Park Conservatory.* The Conservatory proved to be the perfect location for photos and Shannon turned out to be the perfect photographer. She had a great eye for what backgrounds would work in the conservatory, was fun to hang out with for an hour and was great with our little one. At one point she asked if she could take Baby R away from us for a few minutes so she could get a few good shots of her not hanging onto me (we have a bit of a separation anxiety problem). Baby R went with her without even a whimper. My husband turned to me after we gave our baby away and said "how well do you know this photographer?' I replied "not well, but she seems nice and hopefully won't steal our baby." She returned minutes later with our smiling baby...phew! I'm a bit impatient so it's difficult for me to wait a few weeks to see photos so I was psyched to get a sneak peak of our photo shoot just hours after we got home. The six sneak peak photos that Shannon posted on facebook were so incredible that I got at least 20 calls/emails from friends asking about this fabulous photographer. The rest of the 30+ edited images came two weeks later and they were just as incredible. Our session with Shannon cost $200, which included all the edited images. She put them all on shutterfly (makes for easy ordering for the grandparents) and is also sending me a CD in the mail. We were given a giftcard to this studio by our dealership after we purchased our car. The giftcard…read moreexpires 60 days after the purchase of the car. It was around the holidays and time had gotten away from me. I didn't remember to call and schedule our session. They called me just to be sure the giftcard didn't go to waste, but they weren't too pushy. It was the start of consistently excellent customer service. Sessions are scheduled Thursdays through Saturdays (I believe). Ours was on a Friday afternoon. We told them upfront that we had two small children and apologized in advice for what would potentially turn into a disaster. Jeff, the photographer and owner, was amazing with our 3-year-old and 8-month-old. He was extremely patient and playful with them. We had a variety of poses and shots of the whole family and of the children. The studio is what was once a cozy home. It's absolutely stunning inside! We were taken to a private floor with a bathroom across from our room. They allowed us to take our time getting ready and situating the children. We didn't have any quarters to pay for parking and were having a hard time downloading the meter app. The Studio team informed us that there was a tray of quarters in the lobby for that purpose! And they went and filled the meters for us, on a cold snowy day. It really did help take the edge off of getting two little ones ready to be "on" for the camera. The actual studio is huge but cozy. There are several props to make the portraits unique. At the end of the session, you're given as much time as you need to prepare to leave. Jeff and his team were very respectful of the space we were given. Before we left, we scheduled a time to review our portraits (typically scheduled for Saturdays). She went over what we'd discuss in the follow up meeting and how my husband and I could prepare in advance, along with prices. There are several samples of their work adorned on the walls. It makes for a warm, welcoming reception. I absolutely loved our experience here!
