Thanks to Neal T, my search for financial guidance didn't take long. What might take long... my…read moresessions with Ryan Thomas because we've got some work to do. Uh huh. I wasn't quite sure where to look. I mean... most planners are interested in us investing with them to take a cut of it all. Hey, it makes sense. Then there's the guys that want us to buy their books first. That's just awkward and reminds me of the guy with the question marks on his suit. Then there's the seminar types, and then there's the less organized advice from friends, colleagues and such. The thing is... I'm super organized in a lot of my life, so why not have a very organized life with a financial adviser. What's really organized? Yelp. That's where I found my adviser. I went in for my first face-to-face, consultation, and it went like this: "Ryan, I've gotta be very honest here or we're not going to get anything accomplished. I've been very, very bad with money in the past." So, the first quarter of the meeting was seriously therapeutic: Ryan needs to know where I'm coming from, what I am now and where we can go. A seriously transparent meeting -- not just on my end. He was incredibly up front about what he does, why he does it and how and why he gets paid, which at the end of the day... makes a whole lotta sense to pay someone who as his assistant said: "Ryan will be like your family doctor, just with money." Whoa. In just the first hour he really was. I went in to the meeting mired in my difficult past with money. I left with a clear vision of what I need to do now and what I can do in the near and far future for short term stability and long term peaceful progress. I'm one quirky quirk when it comes to money and he handled it tremendously. I can't believe I'll say this, but: I really look forward to my next (already scheduled) meeting with my financial adviser. Cheers to you Ryan Thomas.

I have a generally unfavorable view of the financial sector of our economy so it helps to have someone as patient and sympathetic as Ryan to work with so that we can use the tools that we feel comfortable with to build our family's safety net.

I go in here pretty regularly to make deposits and once or twice a year to discuss or learn more about financial planning. Schwab checking rocks, their retirement saving plans are legit too. I really love their customer service for both of these services.

I just learned of Schwab's High Yield Investor Checking account this afternoon as I was researching…read morethe best cards to carry while traveling abroad- and it sounds *amazing*! Schwab's checking/debit card comes with free ATM withdrawals around the world (the fees are refunded to your account), and regular debit purchases at stores and stuff as I was told have no FOREX (foreign exchange) fees. I had a snaffoo with the online registration (which is actually super simple), so I called their 24 hour helpline-- I was amazed I didn't get someone in a foreign country. The broker I was on the phone with was a real person, and he was so darn cool and I can't begin to tell you how helpful he was. ***Total call time: 1 HOUR 45 MINUTES of him giving me the 411***. Isn't that crazy? He walked me through registration, confirmed on his end that I was set to go, explained the processes of how the brokerage-checking account I signed up for works, how deposits work, how to expedite my checking card coming in the mail because I'm going on a trip soon-- and then.. The best Investing 101 lesson I've ever had. I took these classes in college but it all went over my head. He explained investment strategies, the definitions of everything, how to use their online tools-- basically demystified something I tend to stay away from dealing with, and made asking questions really easy. ... I don't remember his name, but (I think) he works in the Indianapolis office. and that he was 24 and super smart. I really felt like I have having an over the phone class tutor who was really supportive and patient. Best customer service I've ever had. I called back in to try to ask that he gets sort of recognition (each time you call you may get a call center in a different city) so they are going to track him down. But thank you so much!! and I'm excited to get my card and avoid all the transaction fees!

Most recently I received a LETTER advising me they had a plan for some new investments. The letter stated I needed to take action before May 10! The LETTER was posted May 9. Never any follow up. In July they contacted me to make an appointment. At my recent appointment I was introduced to Quinn Teague. I was very impressed he took some time to introduce himself and to have me do the same. I expressed my concern of the turnover in the office and industry. He reassured me that he had plans to stay. I hope the company offers him incentives. I feel quite comfortable that my investments are in the right hands. It's early days but I think this is headed in the right direction.

I discussed that fact that I would need access to my funds and I have now been told that since I took one withdraw out earlier this year - (COVID related) I can't take money out again without significant penalties and surrender fees. I am beyond angry. I trusted them to put my money where it could grow and I could assess it once in a while if needed. The advisor I worked with won't call me back. He has had a compliance officer call me. I worked too hard for my money and now I'm being told that I can't touch it - even to put it back in 45 days - without significant fees. Fiduciary duty...not even close. I will be filing a complaint with the SEC, Indiana Insurance Commission and the Attorney General. STAY AWAY!
