We sat at a table in the Poacher's Den and placed our order at the bar. Food came out quickly and piping hot. The pie of the day was good but the Mac and cheese was excellent.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our hike of the West Highland Way, and had the best time here! The staff was wonderful (although it's obvious that they were all horse thieves, pirates and highway men in an earlier life, they were so friendly and helpful, they made us feel very welcome). The food was great (I'm still dreaming about that delicious steak and Guinness pie). The atmosphere made you feel like you'd stepped back in time-- lamp light and muskets and stuffed puffins and a bear in a Drovers t-shirt and kilt. OK, maybe not TOTALLY historically accurate, but history mixed with wit and a sense of fun. They tell me this inn is haunted. It must be by friendly, fun-loving spirits. On our first night there was live music at the bar. We enjoyed the singer/ guitar & harmonica player very much, but it all kicked up a notch when he got the whole room to join in on the singing. Everyone was clapping, stomping and pounding the table, while belting out a rousing rendition of "The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond". I can't remember enjoying a meal more. On our second night there, the power went out (thank you, Hurricane Amy). The staff showed that although they are retired horse thieves and pirates, they take their current jobs in hospitality very seriously. They could not complete cooking of the evening meals, so it was a quick pivot to sandwiches for all. They handled it with professionalism and grace that made the inconvenience part of the adventure (as one staff member quipped, it was all part of the haunted experience). Breakfast, too, was pulled together with what was available and ingenuity, as they made instant coffee and tea with water heated on the wood stove, and we feasted on cold cereal and granola bars. But as the staff met the challenges with good humor and made the best effort to make it a good experience for the guests, we walked away with an abundance of good memories and an enduring fondness for the Drovers Inn (and its resident horse thieves, pirates and highway men).

Truly stunning and exceptional place…read more Family and I (American tourists) stopped in on advice from a friend since we had a few hours to kill before our ferry. It was a Sunday afternoon in late December, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to rest and eat and enjoy Arran than here. The live music was fantastic (Anchorline and Friends), playing bits of what I assume was Scottish folk music, along with a bit of American folk as well. The atmosphere was lively and fun, service was excellent despite the hustle and bustle. Finally, the food and drink was exceptional as well! I had the burger with haggis (loved it) and my family all had different burgers/sandwiches with chips and salad, all got rave reviews. Topped off with great dessert (Hot Chocolate with a bit of Arran Gold for me, amazing). Can't express enough how great this place is, on a small island off the West coast of Scottland. I've travelled quite a bit, and it was truly one of my favorite experiences in the world, both this bar and the isle itself. Hopefully we'll find our way back soon!

Now I'm not into fiddle music and obviously that's the kind is music they play, but it wasn't annoying at all. We had a beer and wine - a large rosè for me and a pint of Arran blonde for Graeme. Came to £10 for the round which I thought was a little pricey but then, I guess Arran is. It's casual inside and their menu is pretty simple but the people next to us were saying they were really impressed with what they ate. If you can, get a seat in the bay window as then you'll have a beautiful view over Brodick Bay.

Not too many erudite beers on tap, but you can get your hands on a couple of rotational cask ales that are nice. Prices are good, and you may be lulled to stay awhile. We visited here…read moreon a Friday afternoon while in Stirling as my Aussie friend requested an "old man pub with a fire". Stirling's resident Yelp expert, Nicola C recommended here with the disclaimer of "I don't know what it's like during the day though." So, my friend and I pitched up to be greeted by two regulars at the door who told us the pub was closed. "Awwww, really?" I said. "Naw hen!" followed by much guffawing on their behalf. In we stumbled, both having a laugh at the two oldies. The bar was empty apart from one other old gent which seems reasonable for 4.30pm on a Friday. We got a couple of drinks (Thistly Cross bottles for £3.50 each which is what I pay for them in the supermarket!) and sat by the fire (which thankfully someone came and stoked the hell out of so it was absolutely roaring, and scorching hot). The bar had a nice relaxed vibe. By the time we were leaving one of the regulars was well steaming and came over to talk to the Australian lassies and generally give us a bit of a ribbing. He got us to sign the visitors book and was generally pretty funny - I even got a kiss as I was leaving. Lucky me. So, would I recommend going here? Yes, I definitely would, even just for the laughs you'll have. The fire was warm, the seats were comfy and they had a nice selection of crisps/chips for snacking on. Thanks for the recommendation Nicola!
