They are part of the TJ Maxx family however their main business is in the sale of Home Goods. I am just going to remain candid and be real with y'all. You can seriously do a lot of damage to your pocket here. I don't normally shop for home décor but one can easily get addicted to places like this especially if home décor is your jam. I had some self-restraint and spent about $60.00 at the sto! With that money I got a candle, two vases, a wooden laser cut birthday card and a pack of Christmas cards to last me through this season and the next. That being said, one can easily spend well over $50 due to the lure of "cute-ish" items. I get people need "retail therapy" however, choose wisely and ask yourself, "Do I really need this?" The shop is small but filled with all sorts of fun furniture and household items. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and offered to help out with anything I needed. One of the staff informed me that any Alessi item could be ordered through the shop and purchased at the sale discount. Not a bad deal! If only I had more money to spend!

They had them in every direction so people parked in the middle of the lot. The employees just stood behind the counter and never moved 2 other went on the floor to hang stuff up. No one said: can I help you, do you want me to see if we have this in a different size, what were you looking for today etc. I did ask a question but it was answered as she walked by and she kept walking. I ask the one behind the counter if she could help me with something on a rack close by and she acted like she didn't hear me. When I paid I was never asked: did you find everything you needed. She talked to the other employee as she rang me up then turned and said thank you. I'll never go again.

I also sometimes take pause, realizing that these treasures used to belong to someone else, before they either voluntarily parted with them, or simply left their earthly positions behind. In some ways, Artifacts is the mother of antique stores, with several rooms filled with treasures, both small and large. It's right across the street from John's Market, and easily a world away. I found the selections to be fairly well organized and the store reasonably easy to navigate. It was also clear to me that the owners had a good eye and knew treasure from schlock. I found prices reflected well the value that they were probably worth. Best of all, wandering/exploring through Artifacts was a lot of fun. Besides "budget" consideration, the only other limiting factor for me is that I was going home to Northern Nevada in a few days, and my suitcase was only so big. I also knew darn well that places like this truly are like a box of chocolate, as you're never really sure what you'll find either now or later. And when I return to Iowa City in Fall 2022 and enter Artifacts, I'm sure it will be a whole new "Onion" experience. Gayle would say that we don't need any more stuff, while asking where we're going to put it. I'm not sure I understand her point. :)

He offered to help us find what we needed which we politely declined And after about 5 minutes he returned again asking the same question. I told him we were fine. He was starting to make us uncomfortable so I asked him to let us shop in peace, he left only to return again being a creep and asked for my 15 year old niece's phone number. I told him that was inappropriate and unprofessional and asked for a manager he replied saying there wasn't one on duty. I finally had enough and decided to leave right then. I will NOT be back and advise all young women to be aware of creepy Dylan and his disgusting behavior.
