I was surprised with the help the instructors were willing to give me on my initial visit. I will return once school settles in.

I've been trying to get my account canceled for months (due to my work schedule, I'm unable to…read moreattend and they're closed during my off time). They claim it's no problem to cancel or freeze your account at anytime. I spoke with jay back in august and he assured me I'd receive a refund, yet I never received a refund. My account was never canceled because I "didn't fill out a form"they claim they keep sending that I'm not receiving. I've called countless times at all hours of the day never to reach the receptionist. Finally.. after a week of coordinating with them through Facebook messenger and almost a thousand wasted dollars later, my account was canceled. I don't recommend this place, it's a cash grab at best. ***Edit 1 hour later*** URSA Academy - Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Ann Arbor (Owner) 53 minutes ago Charles, if we have an email from you with your cancellation, we'll refund any charge that took place after that. We have had an issue with our website not forwarding our emails. If you can forward those emails to this email address: ursareception@gmail.com , we'll get it taken care of for you. We've been in business far too long to be a "cash grab." I assure you, we simply haven't received anything from you. I'll personally be watching the email for your response. Thank you. ************** My response is : As stated, I never received a form from you until reaching out via Facebook (a week ago) and having it sent to my girlfriend's email address. So you HAVE in fact received a cancellation form, because I was just notified ON FACEBOOK (of all places) that they have received my cancellation and have canceled my account (days after sending it). They have also stated over Facebook messenger that you don't offer refunds, even though Jay gave me his word in august that I would receive one, but now you're telling me you do offer one. So it seems like I'm being lied to, and my situation is being swept under the rug. Bottom line - Jay was well aware of the situation in august (he was assigned to me after all) and instead of helping you just milk my account until I make a big deal about it.

Aikido Yoshokai - Genyokan Dojo

I started training in Aikido at the Genyokan back in 1994. It was the greatest experience I have…read moreever had. I can't believe any bad reviews of the Genyokan because I trained under Kushida Sensei, Mrs. Kushida Sensei and Akira Sensei for many years and they all taught me how to be a better human being and learn the basics of Aikido. Unfortunately there are people who come into Aikido thinking they will learn a martial art to go use it for bad intentions, Those people will weed themselves out of any quality Aikido Dojo no matter where they are in the World. The thing about Aikido is you have to learn and understand the history and how to use it to become a better person. It is the most aerobic activity I ever did and I played basketball most of my life and Aikido made me much more healthier than any other sport or training. Many of the bad reviews I believe are from people who were looking to learn how to damage and hurt others when they should have used the experience to make themselves better human beings from the inside out. If you are thinking of training in Aikido to learn skills to hurt others you WILL FAIL. The instructors at the Genyokan will see through you and your bad intentions and most likely try and change your attitude or they will encourage you to leave because this is not a Martial Art you learn just to hurt others. If you can't figure that out then it's on YOU. I trained in every level of classes at the Genyokan and loved every minute. I made life long friends and only stopped training due to my life becoming so busy with raising children and granchildren that I no longer had the time to do anything other than work and family. I have health issues that keep me from rejoining the Genyokan and train in Aikido again but I will never forget what I learned from the Kushida family and I will always recommend training there under Akira Sensei, no matter your age or size you can gain so much helpful life knowledge by training at the Genyokan and become a much healthier human being.

Fantastic gym to drop in when you're in the area. I've dropped in here around 4-5 times now over…read morethe past year when I'm in town for work. Coaches are friendly and approachable. Good classes. Solid no frills programming. Ridiculously nice space - it is HUGE. Great gym!

Since this place is the only reason I can claim to have some semblance of sanity (okay, okay, take…read moreit easy)... it's time to not only bump up the star rating but also mention some changes/updates. I moved out A2-way during the earlier days of COVID last year and needed a place to exercise. Remembered enjoying Wolverine Strength and Conditioning several years back and decided to give it a go. At that time, they were doing outdoor workouts, which was a big bonus! Plus, there were a lot of really great people both training and being trained. It was the most social thing that I was doing at the time - so not only did I improve my health by exercising regularly again, I also improved my health by having a social connectedness that was lacking in so many other areas of life. After the summer months, we headed inside. They made nice little "parking spots" with all the equipment separated out so that you had your own space. Of course they required face masks, per state regulations. But they also took extra precautions by giving us cleaning towels and products to wipe down the equipment after every use. They also had us go to the common areas in groups to keep contact down. Now that the weather is turning nice, they have told us that we will be going outside periodically again. It's SOOOO great of them to do that since it really is hard on the equipment, plus it's labor intensive. I honestly can't say enough good things about this gym. If you're looking to get your health in check (especially since we know that health is SO IMPORTANT when it comes to infectious disease) - definitely check this place out. You can drop in for free (one session), and then the $160/month is for month-to-month without an annual commitment. It's like getting a personal trainer - but for a LOT less! I cannot believe the changes I've seen in my body in less than a year... and how much more agile and good I feel. For the record, I'm 47 years old and feel better than I think I've ever felt. I may have gray hair... but I wouldn't mess with me if I were you! ;) Haha.
