But it's thanks to Justin's leadership the entire team inspires me, whether I'm hearing other trainers across the gym or chatting at the front desk, or moved just a bit extra by daily quotes on the whiteboard. Every hard rep is celebrated with high fives and every day I'm not training, the staff is working hard on my nutrition, my growth, and adjustments for chronic pain. John was there to hear *all* my concerns my very first day, top of which was that I've been recovering from an eating disorder since 2012 and had been fearful of training because of triggering language or incentive. John briefed the whole team for me, and 8 months in I've never once had to explain myself or course correct. They got me, they push me, they celebrate with me, and see me as a person they're really invested in. It's obvious that same level of energy and investment carries to all their clients. Today I feel strong, excited, powerful, and healthy. I fit my jeans again, I'm eating better food, and I'm still completely removed from bad habits, all because the iron orr team carries that weight (and counts for me every rep! ;) ) I've come to love them all as friends and members of a big San Diego community and I'm going to train there the rest of my life, on my way to becoming a ripped grandma.

My personal trainers, Francesca and Logan, have both been fantastic in their own ways. Francesca has an amazing mentality towards fitness--she checks in with me regularly to make sure I'm making progress and knows exactly when to push me just a little more to help me feel accomplished after every workout. Logan brings a sense of positivity and ease to training that reminds me of the best sports coaches I've had in my life. His affirmations and encouragement make me feel confident and strong. Like many places, personal training here isn't cheap, but it's been worth every penny. In just a little over a month, I'm down 7 pounds, and I know this team will help me reach my goals. If you're looking for a gym that makes you feel supported while pushing you to be your best, Iron Orr is the place to be!

You do…read moremost of your exercises on a machine that similar to a reformer but you actually change the incline on it depending on what you're doing. You also use some weights and resistance bands. Justine was my instructor today and she was very attentive. I'm working through a few injuries and she was great as far as offering modifications that would make the work out appropriate for me. As much as I enjoyed the workout, and I will go back, I do have a couple things that keep me from giving the studio five stars. First of all, I found the equipment to not be very clean. The parts of it that you touch are clean, but the components underneath the equipment were very dusty and dirty. I'm talking clumps of stuff on the equipment. And again it's not a part that I'm touching but when I'm leaning over doing a plank on the machine, I'm looking directly down on it. Then when I'm laying on my back, looking up at the ceiling, the big industrial looking vents that are on the ceiling are also covered in clumps of dust and dirt. I feel like these are things that they should be cleaning at least once a month just knowing that the positions that you get in for these exercises, the clients gaze will be directly on them. And judging by the amount of dust and dirt and lint, etc., on the surfaces, it hasn't been done in a very long time. The second thing is the microphone kind of seems a little hollow to me. When the instructor speaks, the music goes down, but then when the instructor stop speaking, the music volume goes back up and sometimes with the volume changing and the hollow sound it's difficult for me to tell what the instructor saying. This might just be a matter of my taste. I can definitely work around it and was able to follow the class because the instructor was really good about demonstrating everything.

Originally why I stopped coming was due to how crowded and unorganized it was which was such a deterrent! After the recent remodel with up to 18-20 Squat Racks, additional benches/dumbbells, and more Leg Machines, I started coming here over my favored UTC, but now that UTC downgraded from 11 Racks to 6 and removed the outdoor area in favor of potential Pickleball Courts I will not be going back unless they can bring back what they had before or even better as it's not a great place to go anymore for a Powerbuilding workout. For a Push Pull Leg workout between 3-5 days a week Balboa really hits better now and my only gripes are if they had more of the nice water bottle refill stations and cleaned the bathroom more since people come in from the pool and leave the ground wet, but the plumbing and cleanliness here is still better than at UTC which seemed to not make any changes on that front. If the dumbbells were organized as well that would be great but I can see how hard it is to manage. Overall this is my new home for now and definitely would recommend as it's not as seemingly as crowded before with more equipment availability. 3 stars but I would put 4 if the place itself was more organized and bathroom was always clean and dry!

To: General Manager Namon I am writing to formally bring to your attention persistent issues regarding the performance and professional conduct of the late-night staff member Isiah. The African American employee who rides a motorcycle. During his shifts, he consistently fails to answer the facility telephone. When I personally told him the pool was overflowing, he was on his cellular phone and dismissed the inquiry by stating, "I'm on a phone." I strongly recommend a review of the CCTV footage, as it appears he remains largely idle throughout his shift. He refuses to talk to members unless it's an attractive female which he will talk to them for awhile. Last night, a notable incident occurred when the pool overflowed. Despite multiple members, including myself, alerting him to the situation, he responded by stating it was not his problem. I have previously contacted corporate regarding his conduct without resolution; however, his continued lack of initiative is concerning. His general attitude and lack of engagement are unprofessional. He routinely prepares to depart by putting on his motorcycle helmet approximately 20 minutes before his shift ends, which is unacceptable. My primary concern is that he will fail to respond during a genuine emergency. Attached are photographs of the pool area documenting the neglect from last night. I trust you will address this matter to ensure the facility is staffed by individuals committed to their responsibilities. I also wanted to add he continuously wears racist, inappropriate, political hoodies that read not strong vulgar messages on the back. The text on the back of the hoodie is a play on words that combines contemporary conversations around gender identity with a tough, aggressive, or protective persona. It reads: "I IDENTIFY AS A THREAT. MY PRONOUNS ARE TRY / ME." Meaning and Signification Subversion of Identity Language: It utilizes the standard linguistic framework of stating gender identity and preferred pronouns ("I identify as...", "My pronouns are...") and replaces them with words meant to project strength, defiance, or danger. A "Tough Guy" or Defensive Persona: The phrase "Try me" is a common idiom used as a challenge or a warning to others not to test a person's limits, patience, or physical capability. By framing "Try" and "Me" as pronouns, the wearer is signaling that their core identity is centered around being someone who should not be messed with. I have tried to complain to management via Instagram messager and have not received any replies.

I've tried all the new circuit classes from Revel Fit, Renegade, OTF, F45, and I guarantee that no one will program or kick your a$$ like Bryan at Versatile Fitness! This is a no-frills, old boxing gym vibe (think OG Rocky) where you come to WORK! Bryan's programming, exercise acumen, and super sets will challenge you, but also be some of the most effective and productive workouts. He has almost every piece of equipment I've seen in a gym from rowers, ropes, barbells, curl bars, pulley systems, sleds, water weights, benches, kettlebells, free weights, Terra core, TRX, bands, discs, and the list goes on. I have attended about 10 classes and I have yet to repeat a workout. It's insane the quality of training and programming you would get through this gym for the price. Anywhere else, it would cost thousands for this level of programming, so anyone who attends these classes is getting a steal of a deal for this type of workout! Classes are 45min, with several stations per class. Each day has a target focus such as pull, push, leg, abs, and/or cardio, depending on the day. The target is there, but you are always getting a decent total body workout. Each station has 2-3 exercises that you do 2 sets per station. You have around 3 people per station, and then you rotate. Bryan goes around to demo each exercise as you move stations, and also has the workouts written on a whiteboard at the front of the room. Bryan will also provide quick corrections, as needed. Please note, in large group class settings, rarely will get you get alot of correction or instruction. It's not feasible to have that much personalized focus in these types of classes. Each class starts with a short warm-up, and a quick cooldown at the end. I have only taken class with Bryan, as he is the staple of this gym. He also has an extensive background with over 20yr of experience and he also offers some nutrition and personalized coaching programs for fat shredding and other fitness goals. This gym is a hidden gem and morning classes are usually full. I am literally perplexed how the afternoon classes are not exploding with members because I have yet to see anyone have the stellar exercise programming and versatility that Versatile Fitness provides. I've seen so many different trainers and attended many gyms, and Bryan's programming is the most innovative and BRUTAL (in the best way), that I've experienced. If you're looking for a serious SWEAT, a great community, and incredible workouts, VF is the spot!

Side note: I appreciate that Bryan the owner places a large focus on finding trainers that are a cultural match for VF. Shregar, Victor, and Mauritzio all bring the energy.

Admittedly, it's a vibe. However, these concepts have you starting on the tread and switching off to the bench anywhere from 2-3 times. I feel like you do not get the ultimate benefit of either. The weight segment is also super ineffective, incorporating "compound" moves for basically everything with upwards of 5-7 different exercises for a max of MAYBE 2 sets. I get why people love this concept because it's hard to stay motivated with the same boring workout. Plus, these workouts will undoubtedly have you feeling sore, this feedback being what people thrive off of, because sore muscles=growth, right? WRONG, as you absolutely SHOULD NOT feel sore after every single workout. In terms of progress, you will quickly flat line with the lack of consistency due to all the randomness. However, people have different goals and exercise is better than none, I mean, if you can afford it!

There is plenty of retail parking on the first level of the parking garage as well as ample street parking. The studio is clean and has bathrooms, showers, high-end personal care products (lotions, soaps, feminine care products) and offers free towels to use during the workout. The studio is spacious and has treadmills + benches with weights and bands in each space plus extra weights along the wall you can grab for heavier lifting. Another thing I really love about the treads is the ability to do sled pulls and parachute runs...haven't found another studio in SD that has them! The trainers are motivating, the music playlists are curated to really pump you up and the workouts are 50 min - it's effective, efficient and you get a total full body workout and a balance of strength training and cardio w/ the option to double up on weights. I took advantage of the special they had for March for $196/month for unlimited classes (normally $300/month). I have been averaging going 3-4x/week so the value is there and this promotion was a really good deal! Can't wait for my next class!
