Before joining the gym, you must pay for an induction, which costs a tenner, but if you do decide to go ahead and sign up for a membership, they refund this charge. Monthly membership is £28.00 which I think is a fantastic deal, because when I was with Fitness First, I was paying a hell of a lot more than this and their facilities were horrendous, wheras the facilities at the Amphitheatre are top class. My membership fee also includes use of the pool, sauna, steam room etc. I paid my tenner for my induction, and I got a really thorough one, I was taken round every piece of equipment and given a full walkthrough of how to use them, which was good, because the equipment is so state of the art, I hadn't used anything quite like it before. The guy who gave me my induction also gave me lots of good tips and pointers for my workouts, which I appreciated. I love this gym!

So it took me a while to get access to Adelaide (Boucher and Lisburn reviews seem sooo long ago!)…read more I'm starting to think PureGym is the Ryanair of gyms. Not that they charge you for every additional thing they can, but just in customers not being even close to their top priority. The first annoying thing, which happens across PureGyms, is the difference in equipment - for example, this gym doesn't have a hack-squat machine, or the leg press machine you lie on, yet it has a lateral raise machine that others don't. The inconsistencies across these gyms are annoying. If you go to the ground floor studio, they don't have the timetable of classes for the week - they have the timetable for Friday classes (it wasn't a Friday when I was there), and a load of unnecessary pictures of food, which is really useful when I'm trying to find out when the next circuits class is. But here's the worst. A PT with a client was using a machine - let's call it Machine A. A customer (I can include a link if PureGym managers don't know what those are) goes to use a machine beside it - we'll call it Machine B. The PT tells the customer she (the PT) is using Machine B. Her client is working on Machine A, so the PT isn't using Machine B - she's hogging two machines, meaning no-one can use the second machine because her customer will be going on to it at some stage. It's bad enough when inconsiderate customers try to pull this stunt (FYI you should tell any such customer that they are not using the machine as they can't use two at once, so you're using the machine), but when PTs do it it's ridiculous. You see, the problem arises because most people think PTs are employees when, in fact, PTs see themselves as self-employed and, therefore, feel they have the run of the gym. Remember, PTs give 15 hours to the gym (taking classes, performing daily tasks, etc.) and this is their 'rent' paid, enabling them to keep all of the money they get from PT sessions. The point is, the client they are training is their customer, whereas you are just a PureGym customer. As with Boucher and Lisburn, it is ineffective management that causes these problems.

Buzzed, waited, buzzed, waited. No response. I followed a gym-goer in, who turned and instructed me to use a code. I told him I had none and wished to speak to member of staff. I asked him if he was a member of staff, apparently yes. At this point he became helpful. Led to kiosk in hallway and went through the membership options. Requires credit card, no cash payments accepted. At this point I gave up. I didn't want to begin a membership on a credit card when I'll be flying out on the 13th, but was prepared to pay for a month - 19.99. Going for a fry now, instead.

Loads of equipment and plenty of machines. Good lightening too. There's a huge variety of classes both instructor led and virtual ranging from 6am right up too 9.30pm. Around 98% of the classes are included in the price! Pre booking classes is very easily done through the pure gym app. This gym does not have a pool/sauna etc which suits me and there is no cafe bit does have a reasonable seating area with vending machines containing drinks and protein needs. What more could you ask for? £18.99 a month, no sign up fee and no contract, this gym has high standards for its very little price

Sister and nephew met up with us, nephew is anaphylactic to nuts and allergic to eggs, so she's always hesitant about places that serve food. This place was very knowledgeable and helpful with their menu, even offered to scrub down a panini press for her to be sure. The pool is a no photograph pool, and while I get it, there were no signs in the stands to tell me such and the woman who came to take my head off was rude and hostile - there's a right way and a wrong way to handle people and she was wrong. I'm not an idiot, I only took pictures of my son and his father, but don't take my head off like I'm a child - plus? Put up a damn sign. Good facilities though, book online during busy times!

The staff have the traditional bored look on their faces as a 6 year old runs past them for the second time with a massive inflatable ring to go down the same water slide they have been in charge of for the last six months. Children absolutely adore it. I even adored it. Good fun. Now comes the negative. They have unisex changing rooms. The 'cubicles' are lined side by side and after a particularly difficult moment on holidays one year in a different unisex changing rooms whereby a mobile was being used inappropriately and resulted in a cheeky wee so and so nearly getting a kicking from our entire family. Needless to say I have never been a fan of unisex changing rooms and this is the biggest problem for Lagan Valley. There is no problem with separate changing rooms for men and women. Unisex changing rooms lead to too much running about trying to find one that is empty and too much chance of getting into an argument... All in all, if they sort out the changing rooms, then it will be fine. Until then, I probably won't be back.

The sessions are well structured and my son has learnt so much and made great progress in the six months he has been a member. The coach is a dedicated guy called Kieran who really cares about teaching kids to fence. He concentrates on methods and techniques and works towards entering the kids in competitions when they are ready. The club have a full range of equipment so from the first night the kids wear the full kit and get a feel for using the foils. A few weeks later, Kieran will have them fencing against someone else which is great for their confidence. The weekly lessons last for 2 hours and tire out even my hyper 10 year old. You can pay monthly for the fees or get the pain over in one go, at £135 for the whole year. Given the standard of coaching and equipment, and the benefits for the kids, this is great value for money.

I take my two boys here and they really look forward to Friday each week. The instructors are young and friendly and the boys love him, they have made such good progress, I am AMAZED how well they have done, looking forward to Summer Holidays now I will just relax around the pool and beach. All individual children are accommodated within a class, whether water-shy or water babies! Liz has a very child centered approach and can accommodate the whole range of abilities within a class taking time with each child developing them all at their own pace. It's been a really rewarding and enjoyable experience for my son. He has got so much out of his swimming classes and it has developed not only his swimming but also his confidence and social skills. The centre has great classes and even has a waterbabies class for babies and parents! The pool is massive and opening hours are great now that it opens at 7am! It is pretty big and obviously has a trained attendant there at all times. There is also a cafe near the pool which is great for snacks with the kids. I never use the gym but it does look fantastic now that it has had a makeover. There is some really good equipment in here. There is a large court for football/tennis/volleyball etc and the squash room that I often use. The staff are generally pretty friendly and the price is quite cheap. All in all, a very good leisure centre.
