Came here from the 4.7 star and +700 reviews from another site. Service was super friendly, the deli has a lot of cool items you wouldn't be able to find at a normal grocery store such as special cooking or flavoring oils, dried goods, special coffee, these are a couple of the ones that stood out to me. The samosas were tasty, well seasoned beef filling with some peas and carrots similar to a shepard's pie. The shawarma meat was not very great. Texture felt old and taste was not really like shawarma you'd get at a solid donair place. My friends and I were quite excited to come to the island and try out this local restaurant. This was our first stop and we haven't had food all day. Later that day, one friend had an upset stomach and I spent the night throwing up. Next day, I was hit with fever and continue to throw up. After speaking with the doctor, it was confirmed I had food poisoning. The worst part is when I called to speak with the manager, I was told that he's sold hundreds of shawarma and no one has gotten sick so I must have gotten it from somewhere else OR I just have a regular cold/flu and I'm just associating it with his food. Everyone makes mistakes and things happen, so I wasn't calling for a reimbursement. I just thought he might want to know so he can investigate but his attitude was irresponsible and we won't be back again. read more

I've been shopping at the Fig deli for several years now. I have noticed in the last few years there have been issues with the food quality and consistency. Most often the spinach pie filling tastes like an overcooked glob of vinegar-like spinach, with no hint of cheese. The cheese pies as well taste pasty and flour-like. The Koshari is the one consistent dish that rarely disappoints. Moreover, the owner is often miserable and abusive to staff. On my last visit he barked at me to just make a choice after I'd asked about the feta cheese options, (who needs this?). Perhaps he should consider not working the front end. I'm sure he would not be missed by customers and staff. read more

I really like this place, despite the fact that it's a bit of hit-and-miss. I like that you can come here to sit down for a tasty and different meal with a friend, grab something for take home, and/or shop the great variety of Middle Eastern deli products. I remember being disappointed by their calamari but that was last year and maybe it's improved. Just now I seriously enjoyed a chicken shawarma which compelled me to hop on over and give them a review. This was such a satisfying wrap in every way. The flavour was great, as was the portion size. But best of all was the balance between the textures of meaty and fresh and those surprising, delicious crunchy pickled bits. Yummo! My mouth is still warm and happy from this combination. The owner of this restaurant is rude, and has made 2 comments on separate occasions about me asking for a to-go box for my pizza; he feels that if I am eating the pizza in his deli I should not be asking for a to-go box and reminded me not to in the future. I will not be returning. read more

We always include a side trip to the Fig Deli when we visit Victoria. Hands down, it's our all-time favourite source for Greek feta and other cheese, Mediterranean salads, hummus, walnut spread, spinach pies, bougatsa, Greek almond cookies, and the in best olive oil from Crete. The owner, Yassir, goes out of his way to make us feel welcomed. We are lucky to such a great place to shop. read more

I have been a regular customer for several years. It is one of the only places in town where our whole family can happily eat together and everyone is satisfied with the choices. The soups, veggy and cheese pies, pizza (made from scratch in front of you) and chicken wraps are all mouth watering as is their fresh baked bread. They also have dinner plates which look very appetizing too. Their many choices of olives, the baklava and rice pudding are hard to resist and of course their figs are not to be missed. Fig is a great deli. The place is clean; the staff friendly and helpful; and the food of high quality. The owner is knowledgeable, friendly and opinionated (I appreciate that!). There is a wide range of both prepared foods and basic ingredients. The wide variety of olives are fresh and inexpensive. I have not experienced nor witnessed the rudeness noted. I've only bough olives here so far (several kilos worth), but they're the best in the city the lemon stuffed Sicilian olives are out of this world. The olives are not only high quality, but a third of the price the grocery stores here charge. read more

The Fig Deli is a nice place, it offers a lot and has some nice dishes, however for true authentic Mediterranean cuisine it's not Victoria's answer. If you've spent time away from Victoria and like Mediterranean dishes, you will appreciate the need to bring further options to the island. Don't get me wrong, you will enjoy Figs, they do a fine job, it just leaves the experienced wanting more. read more

Came in for lunch - food is ordered at the counter. Lots of delicious Mediterranean treats; lots of Turkish influences. I got the Donair (beef/ lamb meat wrapped in a pita and grilled). The meat was hot and juicy, the veggies were cool and crisp. Great sauce - a very satisfying wrap! Tried some Baklava as well - very nice. Overall, a wonderful experience - wish I could have tried more of the deli things (Turkish Sujuk, cheeses, phyllo creations!). read more

I've eaten Spanakopita at every Greek/Mediterranean restaurant in Victoria! Yep. I love it. Sadly most of the restaurants are missing something. But Fig seriously has THE BEST in town. Stopped in for lunch today...had never been there. We had a falafel wrap and pastitsio with a order of spanakopita...we shared everything. It was all very tasty and quite delicious!! We were eyeing up some dessert and a turkish coffee but ended up being too full after our lunch. Had to walk around for a bit and then came back for a couple pieces of baklava and the turkish coffee. They were both very good as well. I would definitely recommend a visit. We will be back to try something else...maybe pizza. Looking forward to it already!!! read more
