The Geerligs family has been frequenting Fiesta Tapatia since they were established. I would venture to say it is the closest to authentic Mexican food that I have had in the Mishawaka area. It's so nice to see that they are still open for business. Their chips and salsa is pretty different for this area in my opinion because they use a bit more cilantro than normal, and you can just never have enough cilantro. While the cuisine is closer to what I would consider authentic, the menu is a pretty standard Mexican restaurant menu, so you can still get all your favorites when you come here. I've never had bad service, and they are extremely speedy and affordable. read more

If you like eating authentic Mexican food in former Wendy's locations, then Fiesta Tapatia is for you. Don't worry about the former fast-food-chain architecture; this place is all heart. If you spent any time in L.A. in the '80s, you know that there are dozens of excellent taquerias (and dozens more cruddy burger and Vietnamese places) that opened up in former Taco Bell locations. Fiesta Tapatia follows in this proud tradition, and its food is good. It wouldn't rate four stars in California, but it definitely earns each star in Mishawaka. I don't even know where to start. Food was bad, service was bad, they are inflexible on accommodations and have several reminders in the menu that they will charge extra for the second basket of chips. This is so ridiculous that we ordered a large cheese dip and a large bean dip, they don't come with chips and you have to pay for them if you want to eat your dips. LOL. It's not the price it is the attitude of the waitress and the way they come across. We asked for a substitution on our fajitas and the answer was "no", we can pay extra- NO! My son's food was burnt and he didn't eat a thing. Dips ended being too spicy and after paying for the chips, we ended not eating the dips. Fajita was mediocre at best, it came to the table cold. They only offer 3 margarita options. I tried the mango one and it came straight from the bottle mixer. It was horrible. I will not give this place a second try. Stay away! read more

Way better than the other places in town! only wish they had margaritas instead of just beer and sangria. While there's better guacamole (Mazatlan) and salsa (Puerta Vallarta), there's no place with a better overall experience. Ive had food from here twice. The fajitas needed more flavor, ok but bland. Then I had shrimp quesadilla and the trio of dips. The quesadilla was extremely soggy and very little shrimp. This was delivered by Uber eats. The restaurant kept changing the time for delivery, for over an hour. I got annoyed and called to cancel , they wouldnt answer their phone. I tried calling 4 times, nothing. I finally called Uber to cancel and they spoke to the delivery person. He had been there for almost an hour waiting on the order. He offered to stay, I felt bad and said yes. Not ok to lie to a delivery person, it costs them money. It took an hour and a half, when quoted 25 minutes. The dips were good, but wont order from this restaurant again. Dont treat delivery people this way. They dont get paid to sit and wait. Thats not ok. read more

This place is a pleasant surprise in South Bend. First of all the prices are ridiculously cheap. You can get a great combo meal for around $6.50. I usually get the vegetarian combo 1 which is a bean enchilada, cheese quesadilla (rolled up) and a bean tostada. The portion is HUUUUUGEE. Also the tostada comes with guac on it so you really don't need to order guac on the side if that's what you're thinking. The chips and salsa are actually really great too. Everytime I go, the chips come out nice and hot and the salsa is flavorful as well. The service is super fast and the food is fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend dining here. read more

I've been coming here since they opened. I think it's the best Mexican joint in the south bend / Elkhart area. The salsa is excellent. I've had just about everything on the menu. While I wasn't impressed with the steak, the "usual" Mexican offerings (tacos, chimichangas, fajitas...) are all very good. The food is priced very well for the portions. Most of the wait staff are stand-offish and I often am not offered a refill unless I ask. It's a small, open dining area so it's not hard to gesture at your server if needed. read more

This place is legit. I'm from San Diego so I'm always on the search for food that reminds me of home. My search had not been going well in Northern Indiana, untill now. As with most sit down mexican restaurants they provide chips and Salsa. Unlike other sit restaurants, I'm pretty sure their chips and salsa are made in house. They dont come over salted like the tortia chips you find in the store, which I appreciate as I'm not a huge salt guy ( if you like salt, it's easy to add your own). I ordered the Chroizio which came with the standard eggs, rice, beans, and of course tortillas. It was suuuuper good. and for 6 bucks a very good deal (lunch special). Their menu had a lot of good options to choose from in additions to the standard burritos and tacos. My server was very good, the food came out super quick (though to be fair chroizo doesn't require much cooking). By far the best chips and salsa in town. Most are watery and tasteless or chips are to thick but tapatia nails it. Taste is very fresh and just the right amount of spicy. Family owned and run always hoping during the weekend and dinner hours. Love the chicken tacos. Not traditional with just onion and cilantro but cheese and lettuce but very good. This is a great authentic Mexican restaurant!!! I've dinned here for years and everything I've had in the menu has been great. Their quesadillas have the right ratio of meat to cheese. Their fajitas are seasoned and cooked to perfection, the only thing is some of the portions with certain entrees are a tad skimpy, but the prices for their food are fair. I have long been a sucker for Mexican food, but I do know quality Mexican and terrible Mexican food. Fiesta Tapatia, thankfully, leans towards the "quality" side. You are started off with fairly standard chips and salsa. Salsa was good, but chips felt straight out of the bag. Not a deal breaker for me, but just be warned. I ordered their steak fajitas, which were listed as a special at $9.49. I'm halfway expecting a half plate or something like that, but no. HEAPING, SIZZLING skillet with thin strips of steak partly covered on a grilled bed of onions and green peppers. Somewhat lacking on the sour cream and guac, though, but everything else was quality. Three flour (you can get corn) tortillas were piping hot, but on the smallish side. Don't skimp on any of the tortillas...pile it on. My third fajita resembled more of a taco on steroids with all the leftover steak, onions, and peppers. Oh, and rice and beans came with the order instead of separate. This is becoming a lost art: complimentary rice and beans. Kudos to Fiesta Tapitia. Restaurant was clean with appropriate Mexican decor and music. Waiter was very nice and courteous. I went in that void between lunch and dinner, which meant there wasn't more than one or two tables being served while I was there. Service was quick and attentive. Overall: I'd give this 4.5 stars if I could because of the chips and skimpy sour cream and guac, but the quantity and quality of everything else would have had me round up anyways. Like people have said, the outside is a little sketch, but when you get in it is a standard mexican restaurant, and clean too! The chips and salsa were nice, chips were very hot and crisp. I got the chorizo pollo, which I enjoyed. It had their white cheese sauce on it that is shown in photos and looks horrible, but it was delicious! I also was impressed with the re-fried beans and rice, which tasted fresh and not overly lardy. My husband got beef chimichangas, the meat was flavorful and there were no wierd grisly bits. The guacamole was also yummy. Compared to other mexican restaurants Fiesta Tapatia seems fresh, and flavors everything well, they don't rely on fat and cheese to get you through the meal. Wonderful, tasty Mexican food made with fresh, real ingredients. They have the best guacamole I've ever had. Low-key, comfortable dining room, just right for lunch out with a friend. Not too fancy, not too grungy. Reasonably priced. The lunch specials are fantastic if you're in a hurry; they come out to your table right away. We especially enjoy their enchilada sauce. Great authentic Mexican food! None of that Tex-Mex stuff here. My wife, son and I are big fans of this wonderful little restaurant. The chips and salsa are very flavorful and always fresh. My wife's favorite is the Speedy Gonzales and our son loves the tacos and rice. My favorite dish includes a beef taco, beef burrito and a chile relenos (sp?). Very reasonably priced. Growing up in South Bend & having a mom that cooks so well that my friends from CA to NY have said it's the best food they ever had, I never really felt the need to go out to eat all that much. But for that Mexican/Spanish crave, this restaurant is the best in town, if not the entire Michiana area for your fix. The chips & salsa are complimentary as you await ordering & your dishes to be made. Salsa there is excellent. My sister & I love the fajitas. I think Wed is still 'fajita special' day when that dish is discounted or something. I really like their refried beans too. The spanish rice is a little dry & oily, but still tasty...so I shovel that into my mouth during my eating experience too... As for the service...everyone is really nice there imo. The waiter leaves you alone a lot so sometimes, it does take a little longer to get refilled on your drink but it's a small enough restaurant that if you just look up & motion to them, they'll come right over. It was... not good. Astoundingly bland. Crunchy blech. How do you mess up fried veggies? They didn't even serve any fix'ins with the fajitas.
