No wifi, no washer and dryer inoperable, house only stocked with towels. Beds are HORRIBLE! Hubby slept on couch. Not friendly considering the community they serve. I don't understand why people rate things poorly. This is a wide spot in the road with pit toilets, public water faucets, a two room hotel and a grocery store with milkshakes and breakfast. The people were perfectly friendly. The milkshake was better than okay - it's in a metal cup of the holds about 20 ounces! The hitch, it's kind of slow. Don't go here with your big city expectations of service. We got two shakes after 20 minutes and it wasn't busy. But you can get gas, sit out on the patio and it's all good. read more

$125 @ $6.40 per gal for diesel, paid another $20 for 2 candy bars and 2 coffees. 2 days later stopped there to use a picnic table to eat our lunch provided by ourselves and the owner woman came out and ran us off because she said the picnic tables were for her customers. There was nobody there...nobody...empty. We grabbed up our stuff and got outta there ASAP never to return for anything. We stopped in here after soaking in the Alvorde Hot Springs just down the road. We were greeted with warm, smiling faces and the delicious smells of bacon and fresh coffee. We both ordered Cory's with Bacon, and it came out hot and crispy with perfectly cooked over medium eggs. The coffee was nice and hot. The menu is on the smaller side but what they make, they make well. We will definitely stop here again, next time we are traveling by. Indoor seating is limited to 2 tables and a bartop, but there was no wait. They do have an outdoor patio if weather permits. Plenty of parking available. The restrooms are "rest stop" vault toilets (out at the road). They were clean, but be sure you have TP just in case. read more

Drove almost two hours out of our way to get burgers and milkshakes. Only to be told they don't serve them after 4:15. I was told they can't add hours for specific things on google to let people know, so hopefully this review will be seen, so others are aware before they make the drive. After all the reviews regarding their "famous" milk shakes, I must say I wasn't impressed. Not only did it take longer to make than the burger I ordered and finished, but the shake (had ordered a malt) was just average. The burger was also nothing to get excited about. I think for me what made the shake taste average was the use of soft serve ice cream rather than hand scooped ice cream. I get better tasting shakes/malts at 31 Flavors (Baskin Robin). So I guess this place does ok is it's out in the middle of no where with the closest competition being 100 miles away. Trust... read more

We heard a lot about Fields Station as we were on our way to the Alvord Desert because 1. It's one of the nearest gas stations and 2. their milkshakes are visit-worthy! The gas stations are the old school ones where they turn on/off the gas and they close earlier (their Facebook has updated hours). They stop serving food earlier than closing. I will preface that the portions are huge in meals and milkshake. I got the something with a heap of hashbrowns, 2 sunny side up eggs and the toast, served with salsa on the side. It was solid diner-like American food but could serve 2 easily. There were so many milkshake flavors and they were very thick! Not the friendliest or most welcoming folks running this place. It's actually the opposite of what you would expect from people in an area like this. If you go back and look at past reviews, this seems to be very frequent. If you are looking for a burger in this area, go 20 minutes further south to the Diamond Inn in Denio. Those guys are super friendly and the burger is solid. Apparently they aren't on Yelp, so don't miss out. I agree with a couple of other reviews that the woman who took orders was very rude. She projects an attitude of distain toward customers and speaks as if we are all kind of stupid and need to be spoken to in a rude and disrespectful manner. I witnessed it with the elderly couple in front of us and experienced it myself. Although the Milkshakes were very good the rest of the food was below average. Oh wow. The staff (heavyset lady) is so dang rude. I bought an $8 milkshake. After waiting for 30 minutes, I went back inside. She told me I had to wait outside if I'm not gonna buy anything else and they'll yell out my name when it was ready. This other elderly couple was inside looking around the store after they had bought some food, and she asked them if they were just going to look or if they were going to buy some thing and if not, they needed to wait outside. I love this place and the surrounding mountains and desert and my family has used the Fields Station as a base for exploring the Steen Mountains and desert of SE Oregon and NW Nevada. The Station is a welcome oasis for basic necessities, gasoline (precious in this country), and - especially if you've been looking for rocks or soaking in a desert hot spring - they serve some damn good burgers and shakes. The people that live in this remote land won't be impressed by your time schedule, they are efficient and work as a team. If you have to wait a long time that means it's busy and can be crowded, take a minute and look for wildlife and you'll have a blessed day. read more

Stopped here on our way out from a 3-day camping trip and it was packed with people from all walks of life. We had heard about Fields Station through popular YouTubers and wanted to try their infamous shakes! Be warned, this place gets VERY busy on the weekends! Although we waited an hour for one shake, it was worth it! So, if you have a little extra time on your hands and don't mind the long line, go for it. There's plenty of time to spark up a conversation with other fellow campers (like we did)! You'll never know who'll you'll meet. Staff are really friendly, despite the hustle and bustle. A little editorial comment on the Fields Station. The rooms that we stayed in (on a scale of 1 to 10) was a 6 or 7. The meals that they serve are quite good. We had breakfast on the first day. When we returned to pick up our vehicles, we had a good lunch! The problem is that the policy that they've implemented for cancellations is quite onerous. The thing you see is a 48 hours cancelation policy but then it says below that during "hunting season" there's essentially no cancelation. So when's hunting season? Hunting season for them is August-December. I tried canceling an extra room 1 month before we arrived to no avail. I pointed out that I made the booking online through their web booking agent. They said it's in the cancelation policy fine print. I pointed out that there's no dates specified and that someone would have to phone them to learn their definition of "hunting season". They said "pound sand" and charged my card. This is totally BS. read more

Friend and I were on a 1000+ mile motorcycle trip and this was one of our stops on the way. Heard about the milkshakes so had to try one. Got there 5 minutes after they stopped making shakes for the day but the girl making them did me a solid and made me the best butterfinger milkshake I've ever had. They cater to motorcycles and have recently put in a new pump with 91 octane. Awesome service and super friendly bunch. Cute little place in the middle of nowhere. read more

I pass through Fields Station about every 2 years to do 4WD camping around Death Valley. My vehicle doesn't have great range so typically I stop there and fill up with their really expensive premium without ethanol. No issue. Sometimes I eat there other times not. I have been treated curiously most of the times I have stopped but my last trip crossed the line. I had an elderly yellow lab traveling with me. I filled up with very expensive gas and decided to have a burger and shake. I secured her to a picnic table because I thought she would not be welcome in the café. I ordered and came out and sat at the table for 15 minutes because they were busy. After a half hour I was cold and sat in the café on a stool figuring my order must be about up. One of the owners came in and told me my dog was preventing customers from sitting at the table. I apologized and went out and there were 3 empty picnic tables with no customers. I didn't say a word and tied her up by my truck across the parking lot. After thinking about it I was pissed. I don't think I will ever do business there again. In addition, the woman doing the cooking which must be a spouse of one of the men was surly as hell. I have traveled the backcountry of Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Guyana, Honduras, Turkey and have never been treated as poorly. I wish I could be supportive. They are in a very remote place and I wish them well. Must be hard to make a living on ranching and catering to tourists but kindness and smile goes a long way in this world. read more

Considering how remote Fields Station is, I remain impressed how great the food, surroundings and staff all were. We did a back country motorcycle trip from Prove to Port Orford & back in August. We started early in McDermmitt NV, not a spot to spend a lot of time for sure. We made it to Fields Station for a 9 AM breakfast. It was impressive. The quality & quantity, the coffee and friendly ladies cooking and serving were all awesome. I'm a pretty big eater & it put me to shame. They have a small general store for sundry items. Glad I did not make an RV reservation in advance. This place may be billed as having the best milkshakes and burgers but first you have to stomach the crappy, rude total lack of customer service first. We drove 200 miles on a whim that one of their RV site may have had a cancellation. When we saw all the parking sites were empty we were told they had nothing available because the electricity was out. I explained we had a generator and would be glad to pay for a shaded parking spot with sewer and water connection. We recently sold an RV Park after 15 successful years in a remote part of Oregon (Summer Lake). Just because you are the only game in town people may stop once but if you are not friendly and accommodating they will not return. We will darken that doorway again. We traveled a far piece to get here as one must do to find out if the legendary reviews are the truth...And indeed they are accurate. Hubby says that's the best shake that he's ever had, made with fresh strawberries. We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who went to work right away, making a huge half pound cheeseburger for us and told us to go relax in the shade and enjoy our shake while we waited. Great spot to make a stop. It seems no one drives by without stopping. They have a full menu that includes on tap beer and homemade milkshakes that are world famous! A great place to stay and visit the Alvord Desert and the Steen Mountains. Across the street is the Field Oasis that is a cool birding spot. We stayed in the 3 bedroom, 2 bath bunk house that has a full kitchen, couches and big dining room table. Would be a great spot to meet a bunch of friends. The store is surprisingly well stocked. The entire time we were there it was busy. A constant flow of people from all over. If you are visiting the area, you'll want to stop here for sure! read more

What an oasis in the desert!!! We stopped in on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. The line for fuel was long, but moved quickly. We ordered shakes while we waited and by the time we were fueled up, we were freezing our brains with the best (and biggest) shakes in the world. Staff was taking precautions due to COVID-19, but some customers were clueless and probably expecting too much from a small place in the desert. Owners & employees we're working hard to get folks fueled up and on their way. Young boy helping out was a treat to speak to and the generally welcoming atmosphere of the staff was admirable, especially considering how busy they were.
