Marcien asks when you want to pick up dinner and it is always ready and hot. Cash or check only. You can put the container in a warm oven if you're not ready to eat. They also carry a number of jarred items (honey, molasses, pickles, jams, sauces) as well as locally raised meats and I enjoyed going aisle by aisle looking my through their inventory I was also happy to see that they carry a number of gluten free items, including flour and pastas that I'm able to find at my local grocery store. I also loved that they have fresh baked breads and desserts, as well as sandwiches to order to go (didn't try any on this visit, but they looked excellent online!). I did pick up a bit of their jalapeño beef jerky which wasn't super tough like jerky sometimes is and also was super salty, which was appreciated. The staff seemed friendly and ready to help. Across from the store is a bbq spot with seating and I'll be sure to visit there on my next visit. The ONLY reason why I couldn't give a 5-star review this time is I had a very hard time finding the prices on a number of items (especially in their freezer/refrigerated sections). I like that it is literally a general store, you know, like in the old days, where you went to one small shop for all of your needs. They carry a wide selection of treats, including old-fashioned candy like flavored candy sticks, modern candy bars, sodas, fudge, and ice cream. OMFudge!! Some of the best ever! You can also get pickles, jams, and salsas. I always like picking up a few of these items to take home as well as to send to family on the East Coast. The ice cream is a wonderful treat on a hot summer day in Gruene. The ice cream area, kind of like an old school counter set up is adorbs. During my checkout, the cashier whom is named Jacky, displayed a dismissive attitude and was unhelpful when I had questions about my purchase. Instead of providing assistance, her responses was curt and lacked any semblance of courtesy. This behavior left me feeling disrespected and uncomfortable during what should have been a straightforward transaction. Unfortunately this was not the first time I have had this type of experience with this her, it has happened on multiple occasions so I cannot shrug this off as a thought of "she must be having a bad day." Her mood and behavior becomes worse when I want to make a larger purchase to receive my credited points for the transaction. As with most fantastic finds,this was an accident. In town next door for BBQ when I saw the sign and decided to check it out. Walked away with the most delicious sourdough Italian loaf I've ever had. Made with Parmesan, Romano, Parmigiana Reggiano, rosemary and other herbs. It was hot out of the over and the aroma was astonishing. I will definitely go back next time I'm in Luling.

I was even able to purchase a bit of their starter! The starter has been so freaking great! I live quite a ways away from them, so this has allowed me to get into my "sourdough era" and start making breads, scones and muffins! Their starter is really really nice! Everyone who works there is almost as sweet as the cookies they sell, they're helpful and really nice to talk to. I didn't get a photo of the breads I bought, so I'll include a photo of my very first sourdough bread I ever made!
