Every meal has been perfectly cooked, there is a wide variety of main dishes from which to choose, and several sides. Our personal favorites are the strip steaks, the roasted chicken and the salmon. For vegetable lovers, the creamed spinach is to die for. Portions are very generous. A dinner for two could serve four average eaters. Marcien asks when you want to pick up dinner and it is always ready and hot. Cash or check only. You can put the container in a warm oven if you're not ready to eat. I purchased the pecan chocolate, which the owner Stephanie said was the most popular and she had just gotten a fresh batch delivered. In addition, I purchased a coconut sponge candy and some little food toothpicks (75% off from their Christmas sale). The candies were exceptional...superior quality. The candies were on the pricier side, but well worth the price. I must say small town businesses in Texas are usually bursting with friendly staff. Texans are known for having Southern hospitality. That was not the case at Gourmage. Stephanie was aloof and mostly answered my questions with one word responses. I did not feel welcomed. There was only one other couple at Gourmage at the time. While the candies were delicious, I will likely not return. Customer service is extremely important to me.

They also carry a number of jarred items (honey, molasses, pickles, jams, sauces) as well as locally raised meats and I enjoyed going aisle by aisle looking my through their inventory I was also happy to see that they carry a number of gluten free items, including flour and pastas that I'm able to find at my local grocery store. I also loved that they have fresh baked breads and desserts, as well as sandwiches to order to go (didn't try any on this visit, but they looked excellent online!). I did pick up a bit of their jalapeño beef jerky which wasn't super tough like jerky sometimes is and also was super salty, which was appreciated. The staff seemed friendly and ready to help. Across from the store is a bbq spot with seating and I'll be sure to visit there on my next visit. The ONLY reason why I couldn't give a 5-star review this time is I had a very hard time finding the prices on a number of items (especially in their freezer/refrigerated sections). It made it a bit inconvenient and I didn't want to keep going up to the counter to check the costs each time. Other than that, I'd highly recommend a visit!

I like that it is literally a general store, you know, like in the old days, where you went to one small shop for all of your needs. The store has everything from collectibles and souvenirs to arts & craft items, children's toys & games, novelty items, gifts, clothing, candles, holiday decor, yard decor, and so on. They carry a wide selection of treats, including old-fashioned candy like flavored candy sticks, modern candy bars, sodas, fudge, and ice cream. OMFudge!! Some of the best ever! You can also get pickles, jams, and salsas. I always like picking up a few of these items to take home as well as to send to family on the East Coast. The ice cream is a wonderful treat on a hot summer day in Gruene. The ice cream area, kind of like an old school counter set up is adorbs. Everything here just makes me feel like I'm in an old cowboy movie. It gets pretty busy during peak times but I have to say the staff are fast & friendly and don't make customers feel rushed.

Unfortunately, my visit was marred by an encounter with a cashier who was exceedingly rude and unprofessional. During my checkout, the cashier whom is named Jacky, displayed a dismissive attitude and was unhelpful when I had questions about my purchase. Instead of providing assistance, her responses was curt and lacked any semblance of courtesy. This behavior left me feeling disrespected and uncomfortable during what should have been a straightforward transaction. Unfortunately this was not the first time I have had this type of experience with this her, it has happened on multiple occasions so I cannot shrug this off as a thought of "she must be having a bad day." Her mood and behavior becomes worse when I want to make a larger purchase to receive my credited points for the transaction. As a regular customer, I have always appreciated the quality of service at your store, which makes this experience particularly disappointing. I believe that customer service is a reflection of the values of your establishment, and I hope that you will address this issue to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
