It really does shine out from a lot of other places as the food is presented with so much flair and creativity, There's a really varied and ambitious menu on offer and all of it looks like it works. I had the spiced fillets of John Dory last time I ate there and they were absolutely exceptional. There's a really nice light lunch menu on offer too if you just fancy something easy. Great wine list to and the staff are always happy to pair a decent wine with your dish.

A recent lunch there from the set menu revealed a sure hand in the kitchen, though front of house was a bit scatty. I had pan fried hake, with Indian spiced potatoes, spinach, and cockles. The superb creamy sauce had just a hint of curry flavour, and the whole thing worked wonderfully. My partner had roast neck fillet of lamb, with saute potatoes, pancetta, and Calvero Nero. This was a bit salty, and the lamb a bit chewy (although flavour was good). Puds were better still. I had cinnamon macaroon, maple roasted banana, pistachios, and chocolate mousse. It was a sort of deconstructed banoffee pie, and a marvel especially the creamy mousse. My other half had the vanilla poached Cox apple, lavender marshmallow, and blackberries. The marshmallow was stupendously tasty and soft. The set menu was 2 courses for £17.95, three for £21.95. A glass of house wine was an extra three quid. So, great tastes, imagination, and good value. Wait for an exhibition at the gallery that catches your fancy, and go.

It looked like a reception was being set upside the day I visited. They have a large variety of sandwich's. They also offer free Wi-Fi but you have to ask a staff member for the password.

After a serene and inspirational visit to the wonderful Cathedral, on a drizzly weekday lunchtime,…read moreit was a welcome sight to find the recently restored Cloisters restaurant, adjacent to the Cathedral shop. There was a great choice of hot dishes (including a good range of filled baked potatoes with salad, a traditional roast with all-the-works and pan-fried 'catch-of-the-day' Mediterranean style). Also a decent serve-yourself salad bar, fresh home-made soup and a plethora of snacks (sweet and savoury). I opted for a colourful and well-cooked selection of roasted veg (might not sound exciting but they were delicious and perfectly hit the spot) at just £1.50, for a generous bowl. The atmosphere is cosy and attractive with plenty of light pouring-in (even on a relatively dull day) and a very pleasant outlook on the gardens and ancient stone walls. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient (tables were cleared rapidly for those who were waiting). There was a congenial buzz with contented visitors of all ages - from toddlers to senior citizens, students and ladies who lunch. Essentially self-service, although if your dish requires lengthier preparation (eg a toastie) you'll be given a numbered paddle and it will be delivered to your table when it's ready. Recommended for price, quality, atmosphere, and taste
