Out…read moreof all their malls however, I would have to say that SM Southmall is the mall that I've been to the most. It is after all the one closest to my village and is the biggest mall in Las Pinas and indeed maybe even the south, but don't quote me on that one. Anyway, this place has a lot of stores and floor space is huge. Each floor has different sections or wings with each wing specializing in a particular type of merchandise. For example, the top floor is mostly about tech and gadgets. There are plenty of stuff up there that a gadget or computer love could find. The other thing I find unique about SM Southmall is that it's one of the few malls left that still has a skating rink. It's smaller than I remember, and I think they changed the location, but it's still there.

We didn't have to wait to be seated in our chosen restaurant (there is a variety of cuisines to choose from) and I wasn't stressed out about losing my active two year old in the mall or my infant acquiring a virus from a mass of people. Though individual nursing areas are only separated by curtains, the space is quite big to accommodate a companion. The breastfeeding room also has a bottle warmer and a changing pad for those who want to change their baby's diaper. The other amenities (like the comfort rooms, computers and kids play area) are exclusively for Ayala card members, but non-cardholders can still use the restroom with a minimum fee.

I hope that analogy helps clear things up for you guys out there. Anyway, Pop Culture has a lot of small stores, one of them sells video game hardware and games. Most of them sell clothes for girls at a really low price point. Then there's a store that specializes in selling ipies, bongs, and rolling paper and other Rastafarian paraphernalia. It's interesting to walk down this part of Alabang Town Center because of just how cool some of the stores are. Most of them have forgettable names, but it doesn't make the place any less interesting. When I just window shop for the heck of it, I find myself strolling around this place even if it's just for a few minutes.

There's a Girl Shoppe by the entrance, which sells a variety of women's accessories, while the other stores inside have a lot of imported clothes from Bangkok and sometimes locally manufactured like Get Laud. Lots of Korean accessories too. What I love about Korean accessories are how dainty and quirky the designs can be. Most of the prices here are relatively cheap to averagely priced (around Php 100-450 for, let's say, a top) so there's surely something that fits every budget.

While this place is admittedly lacking in the glitz and glamour departments, it happens to have a barebones and down-to-earth charm all its own. While there are many shops in this complex, there are three things that stand out. First of all, there are numerous thrift (or ukay-ukay) shops here, some of which are quite sizeable. If you prefer bargain shopping for second-hand clothes and shoes in air-conditioned comfort, Starmall is a good place to go. The second is the pool. Located at the mall's top floor, the large swimming complex is an oddity that provides opportunities to cool down from the day's heat. The prices, unsurprisingly, are reasonable although the facility isn't the cleanest out there. The last is the large amusement complex, also found on the top floor. While impressive from a distance, up close it becomes apparent that the equipment could use some work, with obvious signs of use. Some attractions are even closed. One interesting tidbit about this mall: the movie theatre has a reputation for being haunted. I can't say anything about this, but I'd much rather watch elsewhere just in case.

We made our usual rounds to department stores and popular suits and Barong shops, but even the most common looking coat cost over two thousand pesos. There's this sleek-looking store in Alabang Town Center that sells men's wear called Merger, but we didn't think of looking there because the suits looked so dapper and expensive. But we were running out of time then so we decided to give it a try. We stepped in and the sales lady welcomed us with a smile. We got lucky that day because some of their items were on sale. Hubby found a sleek black coat that was so him; it had some fancy details that made the coat stand out, but not in a tacky way. Best of all, it costs less than 2,000! The coat fitted hubby perfectly, but he needed pants too. The attendant helped us search for matching pants, but we couldn't find one that fit my husband. We wanted to buy a set of coat and pants so we asked the lady if she can put the coat on hold for us until the next day, she agreed. We didn't find another pair of suit so I went to Merger the next day and the coat was there, waiting for me with my name on the tag. It's a good thing we didn't let the snobbish appearance of the store scare us. Hubby got a dapper-looking coat at a minimal cost. We're definitely going to buy there again.
