She has a masterful familiarity with the building. She took full control of the shoot, guiding us as she told us exactly where to stand, how to pose, and where to move next so we could just relax and enjoy the moment. We saw Augustus' ad on Craigslist for portraits. Based on positive Yelp reviews, we gave him a try…read moresince his portfolio had a real professional's refinement in lighting and composition. When we arrived at his studio, the initial impression was less than positive. It was a ramshackled century-old house in a flag shaped lot off of Filbert. After working our way up the narrow staircase, we entered a rather tight studio space, no more than about 10-foot square. However, we were quickly put at ease by Augustus and the satisfyingly clean room. Even though we tripped over each other to maneuver around the tiny space, we felt like we were really working collaboratively in the composition. Despite the limitations of the space, Augustus managed an exquisite level of control on the lighting. He worked tirelessly to ensure that every shot had exactly the right light and composition, even corralling the wayward strand of hair between shots. Within an hour, we had dozens of flattering individual and joint photos. We hadn't seen ourselves look this good since our wedding photos, which had cost 20-times more. After the shoot, Augustus lightly post-processed our photos with his Photoshop setup for a nearly imperceptible but better result. He showed us how we could post-process the photos ourselves and even gave us the original RAW files, which some other photogs won't do, including our aforementioned wedding photographer. Overall, it was an amazing value for $49 and I hope he continues to offer this great deal to other Yelpers. We now have great photos that will be more than useful for our marketing collateral -- they will be personally treasured.

I hired Gus to shot my son's Bris (Jewish ritual circumcision). He did the event for me last minute…read more(hired him late Friday afternoon for the event on Sunday at 10:30am) and did a great job. His rates were completely reasonable and he gave me the disk so that I could print out my own pics. The photos were so well done that my synagogue will be able to use a few of them on their web site. He was a really nice guy and was open to learning about the Orthodox Jewish culture and respecting it. He did not miss a shot. In fact, there are many that I have had printed to be framed.
