The bad: It took an extra 2 months longer than I was originally told for the fence to be installed, and there was poor communication along the way which made it frustrating to be a customer. I was absolutely thrilled with my Fence & Deck Depot experience. I just needed my alley chain link fence replaced with vinyl privacy fence to match the other side and deter my dogs from alley patrol. I got multiple bids and they were the least expensive by far but the quality did not suffer in the least. Communication from the estimate, to the procedures like getting the permit, to the scheduling was thorough and so friendly. Scheduling was about 4 weeks out which was quicker than I expected, and the most incredible part was I left for work at 8:30am and the fence was completed by the time I got home at 4:30pm - by just ONE installer! - and it was breathtakingly beautiful! Had a wooden fence put in 2021 during Covid was promised the thicker slats. When the job was finished I noticed the slats were the thin ones. The owner called and said he could not get the thicker slats but did not bother to tell us. He made a financial adjustment which was fine. Now four years later the fence rail is pulling away from the post. Called the company sent pictures they claimed normal wear they would not even come out to look at it. They said if their guy is in the neighborhood he would take a look that was two months ago I would have paid to have this fixed I have hired another fence company to fix their mess fence should last longer than 4 years read more

The wood portion of my fence is perfect! I had more issues over a gate than I could ever imagine. I have a section of chain link that a gate was placed where it would open up to a tree therefore did not open appropriately. Initially I was told that a hillside gate would fix it (for an additional cost) however it wouldn't be necessary if the gate was placed anywhere else on the property line. It was very obvious everyone was annoyed by this situation at the company (as was I)-- I was asked what I expected them to do, I was told they don't move posts, I asked they place the hillside gate at their cost. No one was interested in that. They then wanted to cut down the tree (not on my property) that was in the way of the gate. Everything initially mentioned seemed to be about me changing my expectations. It took 4 months. Initially a silver gate was placed rather than a black gate. It took weeks to get the hardware placed to open the gate. It took another several weeks for them to realize they had to move the posts. Then it was done in a very poor quality. 4 months later after the initial installation someone finally came out and moved the posts yet again but actually made it look nice. Would I use them again? probably not. Did they eventually make it right? yes. I don't feel like it should have been such a struggle to get it done the correct way. They also threw the removed posts into the woods behind my house--about 1-2 feet over the property line. Seems tacky--and I felt the need to get rid of them the correct way. read more

THIRD UPDATE: Today they came out to replace the bad boards and even the owner showed up to help. UPDATE: Got the owners attention. Nick the sales guy and owner came and looked at our problems with the deck. That's all we wanted was for someone to come and physically look. We wanted someone to communicate with us and that's what Nick and the ownFence and Deck is replacing the bad boards for us. We had our deck installed back in November 2018. They used Yellow pressured treated wood. We waited six months to stain like they told us to. Here it is 2020, the boards are bowing, warping, cracking and lifting off the base. In the attached photos you'll see everything What the heck! No point in trying to work with Dwane from the O'Fallon office, he'll just tell it's normal and they'll deny telling you to wait six months to stain. I recently had an old cedar fence taken down and a new one put in by Fence and Deck depot. I have nothing but good things to say about these guys. The process from start to finish went very smooth. Ben, the estimator that came out, was very helpful. I do not need a pushy sales pitch and Ben was not that guy. He simply answered questions and pointed out the quality of their material as compared to some of the other companies i had gotten quotes from. It helped to see that I was paying less for better quality materials than i would have gotten at other places. During this process I had asked Ben to give me a second estimate eliminating a side which was owned by my neighbors. While on the phone I had mentioned to Ben that I was most likely going with them but was a little concerned with some reviews here on Yelp. It was said essentially in passing. That same day I got a call from the owner of the company. He explained he had just taken over and some of the older reviews were from the previous owner. The one recent review in which the owner was left without a gate was addressed. Instead of making excuses, the owner took responsibility and said they had dropped the ball. I found his honesty very refreshing. He also mentioned that after that incident they made personnel changes as well as reexamining internal processes. He gave me his personal cell phone number and told me to call at any point with any concerns i had. That meant a lot. I never had to call because i never had any issues. The crew arrived on time and finished in one day. They did an incredible job not only with the fence but with the clean up and removal of the old fence as well. There was a lot of dirt that had to be placed from the new holes and they did an excellent job of spreading it around. I could not be happier with my decision to go with them and would not hesitate to use them in the future. read more

Terrible customer service! We signed a work order for a fence on 5/30 and put a deposit down. We were told it would be a quick one-day job and they could complete week of 7/8. We called every day that week as no one showed up. They finally called Friday, and said the team would be out Mon. They didn't show until Tues 7/16. They left without finishing, as they didn't install the 2 gates. It's now 7/22 and we still have two gaping holes in the fence where the gates should be and have not heard from anyone!! Terrible!! The fence repair guy Bryan is the only one I would recommend coming out to anyone's property to do anything related to a fence. The salesman Roc messed up multiple times. The installers royally messed up in the install twice! The chain link fence had post 5 or 6 inches higher then the chain link fence. The chain link fence was at least 4 inches of the ground in several areas. More then enough room for my dogs to get out. Unfortunately they did and one almost got hit on the interstate close to my house. Scary to watch you fur baby run across an interstate because the fence you installed for them was not installed properly. Now on to the safety fence on the drive so you cannot roll off the 4 to 5 foot tall wall in your car. The installers did not listen at all when I asked for it to be installing on the concert of the driveway. They installed it in the retaining wall. Causing major damage to the wall the salesmen tried telling me it would make the wall stronger. Well after some rain and freeze the wall brick broke several layers down the wall. Due to them drilling into the wall stone cap. The fence itself was all wavy and uneven. Two gentlemen came out to look at it from the company. They sent the same installers back out to attempted to fix and replace the fence. They uses the same post and pulled them up and then putting the damage post back into concert to try to reinstall the fence a second time. It was even more uneven. More issue came up. The repair guy finally came out and had to rip most of it out a second time and install it again. In total it took them over 6 months to get the fence installed and the wall brick replace.Granted they fixed the broken wall brick but my wall will never look as good as it did before they came on my property. Then office has the balls to ask me where the payment was 2 days after the fixed the wall and fence. 6 months after the project was supposed to be complete. Sad that they didn't even offer to take money's off for my trouble, headache, wall that will never be the same... but can ask for their money 2 days after they finish. I mean your check is already in the mail geez! I would not use them for fence unless you get the repair guy to come out at the start to complete the work. Update: After leaving the review the owner came out to my property to apologize. I showed the owner some of the unresolved issues, no discussion took place to remedy the remaining concerns. The owner showed me that they added some written policies to prevent the issue in the future. The owner Sean gave us an envelope containing a 250 gas card asking us to change the above review. We returned the gas card to the company. In addition he brought up the 40 employees for the company when asking me to change my review. Update 2: Been working with the owner over the last week. To get the structural issue to the retaining wall the company damaged on my property repair. We have provided a list of 15 issue mostly structural with the retaining wall from the damage occurred during the fence installation. Been waiting several days to hear if they will pay to repair for the damagesthey caused to my property. I emailed the owner after 72 hours which he requested on Tuesday May 10th. I received an out of office email reply, that he is unavailable until May 22nd. Update 3: Working with the BBB to try to find a resolution. Update 4: Filed complaint with BBB. The company response states the salesman sold us a fence that is not a safety fence on the drive as we asked for. This was never disclosed to us until the BBB complaint. Had multiple wall contractors and supplies out to review the wall. They have provided what it will take to fix the wall. Provided the estimated cost to the owner. We will see if I will have to hire a lawyer or if the company is going to take care of the property damage the company caused. Update 5: Provided the owner with the estimate to fix the wall the company still has not take responsibility of the damage they caused. Filing claims in court. read more

Do NOT use this company! We started our fence project with them in March and March 27th they installed our fence....the first time. After they installed it, I went out to look it over and found 21 out of 23 panels (91%), 11 out of 26 posts (42%) and one of the two gates damaged. The installers forgot the temporary gates to install which had been previously coordinated with Judy over the phone. Why would a company install such damaged materials? No clue. As I was looking at the fence, Greg came back and started looking over it too. He's a "salesman"/"field manager" and agreed that the installers did a horrible job. I pointed out all trash that was left (my toddlers found most of the cut metal pieces) and the extra concrete that was sitting around some posts. He said when they come back to reinstall the fence, there won't be any trash and they'll pick everything up. He said to call Judy and go from there to reschedule when they'll come out and fix it and that she could give us a credit for how poorly the product/installation was. He went back to their shop and got the temporary gates and installed them. They're "super busy" and are short staffed so it wasn't until April 19th when they came back to replace all the damaged panels. The same guys came out and did the work. Since the posts were set in concrete, they had to dig holes besides the posts to get out the old posts and remove them. Instead of a small 6" hole around each posts, now they're all closer to a foot and a half. You read that right, ALL of the posts. They came out and replaced the entire fence with new panels and posts.  When Greg came to check the install, I pointed out a few things that weren't right. (The concrete splatter on the siding, some miscellaneous trash, a panel that was scratched and how the dirt was settling around the posts). He said they'll be right out to fix it. He sent out Jackson to fix some of the issues at the end of April. Greg told me over the phone that they were replacing the scratched panel and Jackson came out and touched it up with some paint instead because that was cheaper. I called and talked to Greg and pointed out that he told me they'd replace the bad panel and they just painted over the scratches. He said that there must've been a "communication breakdown" and that they'd replace it. May 3rd, someone came out to replace the actual panel. Fast forward to May 9th and I called Greg to ask why they haven't come out to fill the holes with more dirt and he said that "they just haven't had any good dirt [from other jobs] to use." In three weeks they couldn't find or buy half a yard of dirt (probably only needed closer to 1/4 yard of dirt, if that) On May 24th, I talked with Dave Meyer, who is the supervisor and explained the situation. He agreed that he didn't know why Greg couldn't just buy some dirt and bring it over and fill it up. On June 2nd someone came out and filled most of the posted and tamped them down. When I came home from work and checked his work, he only put dirt in our side of the posts and tamped it down. There were six posts that still needed more dirt on the othersides of our yard. June 12th they came back out to put the rest of the dirt around the posts and tamped it down. I called Dave back to talk about getting a credit for how poor of an install and how long it took to get done and he offered a comically low amount. He pleaded to me that "they had to eat the cost of replacing the entire fence already and that its a small company. They have to pay their workers so they can put food on the table for their families so they couldn't give us more of a credit." None of that is our problem considering that THEY damaged the panels and posts and if the manufacturer delivered them that way, they could've sent them back. Here are a few miscellaneous things to add: the workers charged all their tools at our house, the lack of attention to detail is very apparent (they would randomly screw the bottom of the panels in on our side of the fence instead of the common ground side where we wouldn't be able to see them because it was quicker, the forgot to screw in roughly half of the panels so they wouldn't shift from side to side, they'd cut pieces of panel and wouldn't pick them up), they left enough of a mess/dirt in the street that I had to clean it up, they installed the gates swinging into our yards opposite from what we planned (and what Ben had spray painted on the ground. That wasn't a huge deal for us but could be for you). Maybe this was the first time these guys installed a fence? To pay thousands of dollars only to have amateurs do such a poor job, I felt it right to warn people to stay away from them. Spend more money and use a better company who has employees that care about the final product and how well it looks, not just trying to get it done in four hours so they can squeeze in another job that day. If I had to do it all again, I'd pay $1,000 more to have another company do it read more

This was terrible. $1700 for a fence that a wood shop teacher would fail. They've been out 3 times and haven't fixed anything. The hasps don't work; the boards are loose; support wood is inferior; they only used 1 screw at the top and bottom of the pickets so they're falling off; the bolts holding the hinges are coming out. I actually live in St. Peters, MO) When we purchased our fence last year the estimate was not the cheapest bid at over $10k but we felt that, based on the initial visit the company was well established, reliable and could help us navigate the permitting process. They offered zero help after we signed the contract, and after installation we had to call back twice to fix rails that became loose. Today when getting our sprinklers turned on and performing a backflow test, we discovered that the installers cut directly through a sprinkler control wire and PVC line. It's common for fence installation contracts to specify that all 'non-public' lines are not the responsibility of the installer, so that's something you'll need to expect; however, there is no misting when you cut through a thick electric wire and a 1/2" PVC pipe. They chose to keep us in the dark. Now we're paying our sprinkler company to replace/repair these items, when I could have easily repaired them myself while the ground was torn up. I would NOT recommend this company. read more

Fence & Deck Depot just finished a major project for me. On the one hand, the dollars expended will keep me from about one-hundred new restaurant visits and reviews. On the other hand, this review just might be a hundred times more valuable than a restaurant review to homeowners hoping to make a good choice. First, to help you understand my biases, a word about my experiences. Across a span of 25 years, I've owned three homes in three different communities. One was built in 1929, another in 1984, and the current one in 1973. Maintenance is a constant challenge, and I've learned the limits of my amateur ability to handle minor projects. I've hired contractors for a variety of major projects, some easy and relatively pain-free, some not so much. In this case, I needed to address the challenge of a decaying 25-year-old deck and associated walkway wrapping around a sunroom. The estimator listened to my concerns, thoroughly explained material options, and offered an estimate that proved accurate. The construction supervisor analyzed the unusual construction of my sunroom foundation. I was a little nervous that he would not offer a solution until the old walkway was torn out, but understood that the rot needed to be cut away first. When, mid-project, the solution was offered to reposition the steel I-beam undergirding on new pillars, the plan was sound, the add-on pricing fair, and the work done quickly. The carpenters were respectful of my property, listened to me when I showed up, carefully explained what they were doing and why, and did fine work, from preparation through clean up. The paperwork was all in order, permit, drawings, inspection, invoice, warranty, etc., including a nice letter from the president with a customer satisfaction survey. All in all, I would say the division of labor and communication are great. The overall effort represents fine teamwork. What did I get? A well-constructed deck of eastern red cedar, a walkway-free sunroom, trimmed out in cedar to match the deck, and supported by repositioned steel I-beams on posts in thirty inches of concrete. No longer do I have to worry about someone's leg going through the spongy old deck wood, or imagine my sunroom might sag to the east. I have a 7-year warranty on materials and workmanship, even more on the treated lumber frame. The cement is still curing, and I have a lot of staining to do when the weather warms up, but so far, so good. Thanks, Fence & Deck Depot. read more

-1 I had a $10,000.00 fence installed in October of 2017 with a set of double gates, the gates have broken 5 times in 3 years. These gates are rarely used and in the first 2 years were only used maybe 3 times and remained closed and locked. I was told they were not installed properly because a pipe was not placed in the ground, therefore the gates were moving with the wind causing extreme motion to the gates until they fell apart. They did repair & re-install the gates, the next time they fell apart I asked that they put brand new gates up so this didnt keep happening. But they did not the just repaired them, only for them to fall apart 3 more times. The Gates are now falling apart again and they want to charge me approx. $750.00 per gate. This is not a company you want to do business with, when they will not stand behind the product and installation. read more
