I have now had the engine that Racekrafters custom built for my G8 for over a year. IT WAS SO…read moreWORTH IT. I tasked them with building me a Chevrolet 8 cylinder engine (An LS for those in the know) on a small budget to go in a Pontiac sedan. This engine was for a street car, not a race car. I requested a flat torque curve, stone cold reliability and linear power delivery. What they delivered has exceeded any expectations I ever thought was possible! This bespoke motor is an engineering masterpiece hallmarked by internal modifications. Forged this, stroker that, reinforce that, hone this, ARP studs here, here and here. Their years of knowledge engineering these engines shows and they know every trick in the book. I have to give these guys credit, they "overbuild" things. Bringing your car here for repairs is like bringing in a world class structural engineer to do your bathroom remodel. Their prices are fair and where Racekrafters really shines is in doing things the "right" way. After years of searching I've finally found a capable mechanic I trust. Over the last year I've taken many friends for rides in the car. My friends have fondly labeled the car, "Jeckyll & Hyde" due to its dual nature. Some refer to it as a "wolf in sheeps clothing". With Racekrafters bespoke engine installed, the car is so docile that my wife drives it to work occasionally. I can even take my grandmother in it to run errands. This has earned it the moniker of the mild mannered and respectful Dr. Hyde from Robert Louis Stevenson's famous novel. But when I get in alone, late at night, at a closed racetrack, in Mexico, and I decide to let my right foot get a little heavy, a noise is unleashed that sounds like millions of Satan's pet bees swarming all at once. All 8 of the internally balanced, custom built pistons jump to attention - their true purpose shining through. The car jumps into its new personality and accelerates...SAVAGELY. It outpaces most high end modern cars. That savage acceleration is what earned it the nickname Mr. Jeckyll, the insane alter ego of the polite Dr. Hyde The car is outwardly good, but sometimes, when the moon hits just right, it can be transformed into a beast of unparalleled power unlike anything I've encountered in all my years. If you were on the fence about where to get your engine built, this is most certainly the place to go!
